Is there any chance of seeing the game log [or at least the box score] for the All Star game? I see Granpa Levi made it as a backup for the NL and it would be nice to see if he got into the game at all.
In any case, great thread Matt, KUTGW!

Here's the 1933 All-Star box score... From there you can view the game log, too!

August 1933

I ran the sim and then realized that a player mysteriously disappeared from the game during the current month, just like Wolter Tjeenk-Willink disappeared after last season. So, I restored the league as it was before this month & re-simmed. Because of that and the fact that I had the entire writeup for August complete before resimming, I will just display some stats for the month and skip the player-by-player stuff. This way I can continue and try to finish the season tonight... I'll try to get the html updated tonight too.

The biggest news is the fact that the A's continued to fall on their face, going 11-18 and falling to 2nd place behind the Yankees after holding a 12.5 game lead just 2 months ago. In the NL, the Cubs slid back into first place, but after making a great trade last month to acquire pitcher Jimmie Northup from the Giants, they lost him to a rotator cuff injury which looks like it will end his promising career.

American League-Pitcher of the Month:
Jethro "Dodge" Lee (WSH)!
He had a record of 6-0 in 6 games started, with an ERA of 1.15 and 2 shutouts.

American League-Batter of the Month:
Jerry "Slap" Hertzog (PHA)!
He batted .383 in 94 AB, with 3 homers and 25 RBI.

National League-Pitcher of the Month:
Alex Winterhalter (CHN)!
He had a record of 4-0 in 4 games started, with an ERA of 0.52 and 1 shutouts.

National League-Batter of the Month:
Alan Liao (CIN)!
He batted .411 in 107 AB, with 1 homers and 16 RBI.

September 1933

Both leagues turned out to have exciting pennant races. The A's finally heated up late in September, but it was not enough to overcome the Yankees, who began the month with a 14-game winning streak. The Phillies and Cubs went back and forth, but Chicago went 8-13 this month and could not recover.

World Series

It looked like there was a great chance for another all-Philly World Series, but the Yankees went an incredible 28-12 since the end of July. The Phillies are headed to their 6th World Series in 9 years. However, Philadelphia had the 4th worst team batting average in the majors, and they lost their sparkplug for the series. Shortstop Dale "The Wizard" Reneau, who finished 2nd in the NL batting race, is out with a groin injury. They are also without two good picthers, including 4th starter Elmer Finch.

The Yankees are also without two strong pitchers, most notably Art Booth, who won 19 games this season. However, their pitching staff is not too damaged by the losses, although Freddie Miller (10-20, 4.75) will be very key as the 3rd starter. The Yanks do have the top offense in the majors, which hit .289 as a team and scored 797 runs.

My Prediction: The Yankees are on too good a role and their pitching staff should have little trouble containing a weak Phillies lineup. Meanwhile, New York's offense must prove itself against the best pitching staff in the game. I predict the Yankees will win in 6 games.

Starting Lineups:

**Ancestors in BLUE

Yankees
C Harry Finley, .304, 61 RBI, 41 steals
2B Swervin' Ervin Skjerly, .342, 85 runs scored

3B "Fat Gus" Kahle, .304, 9 HR, 77 RBI
SS Clarence Bazart, .278, 39 SB

WEB PAGES UPDATED... INCLUDING WORLD SERIES BOX SCORES

WORLD SERIES

Phillies 5 - Yankees 4: The Phillies scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning off Yankees starter Davie "Nightmare" Kendrick. Phillies starter Terry Schukraft allowed a run in each of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings, but still had a 5-3 lead. The Yanks scored a run in the 7th, but they could not get anything else going.

Phillies 6 - Yankees 2: Scott Fenner allowed just 2 runs in a complete game victory, as the Yankee offense could not seem to really get on track against the mighty Philadelphia pitching.

Yankees 3 - Phillies 0: Freddie Miller erased all doubts about his ability to succeed as the #3 pitcher in the World Series. He threw a 3-hit shutout to keep the Yankees in the series.

Yankees 3 - Phillies 0: The Yankees uncovered the Phillies' offensive weakness with back-to-back shutouts. This time, Davie Kendrick threw a 5-hit shutout. With a runner on third and two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Yankees centerfielder Ping Hung made an incredible, shutout-saving catch to end the game.

Yankees 1 - Phillies 5: Philadelphia's shortstop R.W. Jones had 3 hits and 3 RBI as the Phillies became the first team to win a home game in this series. Philadelphia collected 11 hits, but their pitcher, Scott Fenner, allowed just 1 run and 3 hits.

Phillies 3 - Yankees 4: The Yankees took an early 3-1 lead, but Philadelphia tied the game with 2 runs in the 7th. In the bottom of the 8th, pinch hitter Edward Haddock got an RBI single which proved to be the game-winner.

Phillies 2 - Yankees 6: Phillies starter Tobe Palmer was scratched from the start after injuring his arm in Game 3. In his place, the team started "Tipsy" Wright against Yankee ace Davie Kendrick. The game was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the 7th when the Yankees busted out with 5 runs.

This was a momentous World Series that matched up the two franchises with the most pennants in either league. It was the first series the Yankees won since 1912, despite the fact that they lead all AL teams with 9 pennants. For the Phillies, this marked the first World Series loss in franchise history after six successful championships!

Pitcher Freddie Miller was named World Series MVP after proving he had the stuff needed to win in the clutch. He won two of the biggest games in the series, Games 3 and 6. Game 3 was the Yankees first win and kept them from going down 3-0 in the series. Game 6 tied the series at 3-3 and kept New York's championship hopes alive. He was 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA, including a 3-hit shutout.

Proud of my season, despite only getting 469 AB's I still managed 40 steals and a decent .356 OBP. Here's hoping the Braves start to turn it around now

Ervin: "I feel great today. We played great this whole series, and I'm glad we never gave up when we fell down 2-0! Wow! What a great feeling! I hope I can get 10 more rings before I retire, that's how great the feeling is!"

Edit: To add to this, I just realized Ervin had the best batting average on my team in the post-season, most RBI. He's the MVP in my heart!

FYI: On September 15th, Jeronimo threw a no-hitter against the eventual WS champion Yankees (who had the #1 offense in baseball). He allowed 3 walks, spoiling a shot at a perfect game, but this no-hitter was the first in the league since May of 1932.

Yes... the closest to that age have actually been recently (both ancestors)... The Cubs' David Wickersham threw one at age 22 in 1929 and Brooklyn ace Frank Smith was 21 when he completed his in 1931.

I cant believe how obsessive I get following the fictional exploits of my father. Two POYs by age 23--Yow!! Now if only that balky back stays in line, and provided the dreaded CEI never rears its ugly head, pops may wind up in the HoF like I always wished. Nice stuff Matt!

Matt,
Please keep up on the disappearing player thing. That happened in OOTP5 and was a major drawback. Hoping its not happening again in 6.

Yeah, it really ticks me off... who knows if a player's disappeared without me ever knowing it, like a prospect who has never debuted... I decided to go ahead and convert to v6 in hopes that this problem will stop... The fact that CatoBase supports v6 now helps, because that was the only thing I was really waiting for...

Now I just have to hope that someday CatoBase can extract info from the almanac when the league file is missing...
