Tigers won, KC is losing late. Looks pretty good for Detroit. (I am happy for them, I don't have a dog in this hunt)

Also, I just spent some time going back through this thread to see my range of emotions over the last month and a half.

I need to re-learn how the playoffs work these days. It's been a while baby. :-)

So, the wild card round is now 3 games at the higher seed rather than 1 game as it was back when we were last here.

I like that. I hate replacing game 163 with a tie-breaker system. You play for six months and 162 games. Come on MLB, let it be decided on the field.

It has been a while and it is sure nice to be the hottest team in the league… I also have faith in AJ Hinch not pulling no boneheaded moves that will cost us in the long run!!!

The thought of ANY Wild Cards, much less the #5 and #6 seeds, make me ill (as my vituperations in the Mets thread will prove)…

…but congratulations to Detroit for a surprisingly hot finish, to take advantage of the 12-25 coma in 'sota. Well done, Bengals! (Better than the NFL's Bengals-come-lately, for sure.)

Also, Minny's Chitty Connect uniforms are some of the Chittyest I've seen yet, so thanks for sparing America that mess.

Let's go back to 16 teams so we can all be real men and enjoy playoffs the way God handed them to Moses.

Obviously I’m excited as a Tigers fan. I have wondered though how big of a story they are nationally. I won’t be a total hypocrite because I have been very vocal myself about the expanded playoff. I though last years World Series was a joke (and based on the ratings America would agree) and a product of letting in too many teams. I think the bye actually hurts the deserving teams that were great for the whole season and stood the test of time. Anytime you let in more teams you minimize the importance of your regular season and open up your playoffs to be subjected to small sample size theater. However, for the league they are giving extra fanbases something to root for and pay attention to and it work. I have been enamored with how the Tigers have erased their deficit and found themselves up to the possible 5 seed. So since I can’t change it I may as well enjoy the heck out of it.

Very true. And all these teams that fight to get in are so prepared at playing a high-level that I believe they actually have an advantage starting out the playoffs than these teams that have coasted into the postseason

I've not had any luck searching for an answer to this:

Has there ever been a playoff team with more than 12 rookies on the roster?

Edit - I think that there are only 11 rookies on the roster.

THIS is what's making this season magical for me...

How many guys are on the roster of most teams that have this kind of intensity? The fact that so many on this Tigers roster do has made it a joy to watch them. These guys WANT IT. Dirty jerseys and smiles and joy on their faces...that's what makes the game fun to watch and play. It's not just a job...

I still haven't seen the official playoff roster.

Announcers are Michael Kay, Toms River Todd Frazier and Tim Kurkjian. My sympathies, Detroiters!

(Translation: thank heavens I don't have to suffer Kay and Kurkjian on the Mets game; they were awful when we had them in London. Frazier will likely be an upgrade over Doug Glanville [how could he not be?], but still.)

Toms River Todd Frazier is always an upgrade.

I'd take him as a defensive upgrade over Vientos at third.

I think that's the 3rd shot off Skubal's glove hand in the past 10 days or so. Eeks.

That became quite the wringer at the end there.
