Yes!!!!! Thanks for all the work and the beautiful cards. It is just like going back in a time machine to my favorite market as a kid and buying the newly released High Number Series of cards. Your work is beautiful and I am sure that Topps would envy the work you have done. Thank you once again.

I don't know why the old Topps cards made such an impression on me, but they did. And, I agree, after I make these things, I go, wow, it's just like I opened up a new pack of cards.

Masked & Anonymous 1952

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask about this, but here it goes.

A while back there was a seller on Ebay who listed several cards from a set that was called "Masked & Anonymous". These were additions to the 1952 Topps set and were of players not made, players traded, prospects, or coaches. The associated story with them said that an unknown collector had produced these in the early 1990s I believe.

As you can see, they are not as nice as the ones that have been produced for this site. This collector I suppose used no PC at all or only a primitive one to make these. The seller on Ebay listed each for at least $15. Being a cheapskate, I just pulled in the photos. Does anyone know anything about these or has anyone ever seen them? If that guy could get $15 a piece for them, I am sure that the beauties produced by Ortforshort would sell for a lot more.

Here are some examples of the 1952 Masked & Anonymous cards:

1952 Extensions

The backs look pretty nice and the fact that they're actual cards is definitely worth something, but did they actually sell any of these things, especially at $15 a pop? Also, you would think that they would have had to reimburse the players, major league baseball and the photographers if they were able to sell any - I think there's an absurd 75 year copyright on the pics.

Have to agree with that. There are all kinds of rights issues involved. If there weren't, Panini would be using team logos on their cards instead of airbrushing them off. I'm guessing that's why the creator of these is "masked & anonymous" (the law gets a little grayer for reselling unlicensed items--just a little).

Bob Lemke does some truly beautiful cards. He generally only makes 9 of each (one sheet) and he does sell the extras. I don't know if he's ever encountered licensing issues, though. I mean, really, who is going to go after Bob Lemke who has done about as much as anyone to promote both the game and the hobby.

FatJack - thanks for the link. Never saw Bob Lemke's stuff before. He does the backs, too, which is pretty neat. Glad to know I'm not the only one crazy enough to do all of this. Anyway, I agree that, in my mind, these are more of an homage to Topps than a threat to them.

Bob Lemke does excellent work and I have pulled in many of his creations for my virtual collection. I must say however that Ortforshort is not to be beat when it comes to creating cards that never were!

Here is another site that makes cards that never were: The Dick Allen Hall of Fame: Dick Allen Hall of Fame: Braves

Below is this guy's Dick Allen 1976 Braves card if he had reported to the Braves in 1975 after being traded by the White Sox. I remember how disappointed I was as a kid when I heard that Dick Allen refused to play for my favorite team, the Braves. The Braves ended up sending him back to Philadelphia in exchange for Dick Ruthven.

I'm a big kid now, but you can imagine my pain as a Yankee fan now.
2014 and no Rivera, Pettitte, Cano, or A-Rod. All I have left is Derek and memories
