Finally watching a replay of mexico and Argentina and the Argies intentionally made Mexico wait on the pitch before the start of the second half. Shouls have been 18 yellows for that effort at gamesmanship.

For the USA, a win over the Czech Republic should set them up to at least qualify, and possibly win them the group (which I have amazingly predicted them to do).

As for Group of Death, C is slightly more of one than E - just because Ivory Coast are much stronger than Ghana.
You know I love you SDPM but this was not your finest hour .

Keep going through and I suspect there are more like that.

Although I did get the 6 points to qualify bit right. It's just the USA weren't the ones to do it.

If I felt as bad as you do for the countless missteps Ive taken this tourney Id jump off a bridge. IMO its better to take a chance and fail than to remain silent.

Hol v Por is killing me because I cant get my head round any one squad as favorites. So I am putting my foot down and taking a stand. Portugal wins 2-1.

thank god for an edit button

I don't particularly worry tbh - it's just that there are almost certainly more screwups in this thread from me.

Netherlands for me.

I dreamt Portugal beat Brazil 5-3 last night. Having said that it was only 2-0 going into the 89th minute, so it might not be a totally foolproof prophecy. Still, it's worth putting a tenner on.

I once dreamt Man U would beat Newcastle 2-0 with Andy Cole getting a goal. I was right! I also support Newcastle

Although it's your money, and I could look stupid if it does happen, I wouldn't IMO.

As this would be in the semi-finals - in a game with four or fewer teams left in the competition, eight goals (or more) have only been scored in a game twice.
In the final round group in 1950 when Brazil beat Sweden 7-1, and in the 1958 third place play-off when France beat West Germany 6-3.

Two good reads in yesterdays and todays English newspapers, yesterday was about Beckham and if his name was Dave Beck and he played for Wigan Athletic would he be in the World Cup simply put NO

In todays paper it's an interview with Shaun Wright Phillips and that Sven told him he wasn't going to the World Cup because he hadn't played enough games HELLO he played more games than Walcott so go figure, he also said in the same interview that he speaks to Beckham alot and Beckham gives him advice sorry to say Shaun but I have the feeling Beckham had a hand in you not going to the World Cup.

Conversation went something like this imo, Beckham "Sven my old buddy you know you don't really need to take that Wright Phillips lad as I play on the right wing and you know your not going to drop me so why bother taking him ?" Sven "You are right my little friend instead I will take Lennon who nobody will ask to play and I will take Hargreaves as he still as the pics of me with that Thai ladyboy"

SWP not only didn't play much last season, but he was generally poor when he did. On the other hand, Lennon had a good season and a very good end to the season. Beckham's value to the team can be debated, but I don't see any problem with Lennon being selected over SWP. If SWP is upset about missing the World Cup, he can blame himself for accepting Chelsea's money and a place on the bench rather than staying at City or looking for a move to Arsenal or Liverpool, who were both interested. As for "who nobody will ask to play", nonsense - there are plenty of media pundits calling for Lennon to start, either in place of Beckham or with Beckham in central midfield or at right back.

As for Hargreaves - you don't like him. He played very well against Sweden; better than about 8 or 9 of the rest of the players. But no, you came onto this thread to slate him and Crouch, and continue to do so. Well done. Very original. Why not discuss tactics, or why Ashley Cole is invisible, or why Lampard is off form, or what would be the best formation? No, let's make silly jokes about Hargreaves.
