The St. Louis Cardinals have placed middle infielder Braden Shewmake on the 10-day injured list after he left their 6-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on June 2 with a back injury.
Shewmake, 28, who has played in 26 games/21 starts this season is hitting .200 with three home runs and 11 RBIs.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 26-year-old infielder Gabriel Arias.
Arias has played in 44 games/43 starts for the Redbirds during which he has hit .269 with eight homers and 18 RBIs.
Arias has 138 games/102 starts of major league experience -- all with Cleveland during the 2022 and 23 seasons -- during which he has hit .207 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs.

St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Drew Rom and Houston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez have both received two-game suspensions after they instigated a bench-clearing brawl during Houston's 9-2 win on June 9.
Alvarez charged the mound after being hit by a Rom pitch in the sixth inning after Rom had allowed a two-run home run to Jose Altuve.

With the Cardinals, since I cannot fire the manager (me) and continue to play the game, that would be bench coach Chip Hale.
Hale, 61, is out as the team's bench coach.
In his two-plus seasons, the Cardinals went 105-117.
Henley, 52, last served as manager of the Nashville Sounds leading them to an 81-69 record.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed outfielder Jordan Walker on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a strained hamstring while running the bases during a 6-0 loss to the Houston Astros on June 10.
The 24-year-old Walker is expected to miss about three weeks.
Walker has played in 55 games this season and hit .236 with 11 home runs and 26 RBIs.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 24-year-old outfielder Travis Honeyman.
Honeyman has played in 43 games for the Redbirds during which he has hit .333 with 15 home runs and 47 RBIs.
He also made a brief appearance in the majors getting into five games/two starts.
Honeyman hit .100 with no homers or RBIs in that span.

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded IF/OF Jazz Chisholm Jr. and minor-league catcher Jimmy Crooks to the New York Yankees in exchange for minor-league starting pitcher Josue Panacal.
Acquired in the off-season from the Florida Marlins to be a jack-of-all trades everyday player, Chisholm was a big disappointment for the Cardinals.
In 52 games/48 starts, the 28-year-old hit just .180 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
Panacual, 24, comes to the Cardinals with some major-league experience.
He has pitched in 55 games/54 starts for the Yankees going 20-21 with a 4.38 ERA.
This season, he made five starts for New York going 2-2 with a 5.02 ERA.
At AAA Scranton, he was 2-3 in eight starts with a 4.61 ERA.
Panacual will be assigned to AAA Memphis.
Crooks, 24, has spent this season at AAA where in 42 games/37 starts, he has hit .311 with 17 home runs and 37 RBIs.
