He shot up the prospect rankings to #49 opening day in 2028. I was concerned that his command was going to be a problem and ended up sending him in a huge deal (5 players 8 picks) to Baltimore moving way up in the draft. He's gone 50-44 since, with an ERA of 3.96 in 183 games (132 starts) having his best year last year (14-8 3.91). The command has gotten far better than I thought, as has the stuff and at 28 he's in his prime and throwing well. How's the ERA race in the Frontier coming?

2033 Draft pool
I am picking 26th, and then not until 106th (31st 3rd Round) due to trades. So I am going to have to pick the best available all through the draft. Deep pool this year too. Some amazing 2-way talent.

Hawaii is 18-35, 18 games back and has yet to make an appearance in the post season since joining the league in 2021. Today they fired the GM and their manager, Roberto Lopez. Lopez came to the Warriors in 2030, after winning the IBL world series as the manager of the Avalanche in 2029. He was the 2020 IBL Manager of the year in the Frontier league while managing Columbus. He's 1212-947 lifetime with 7 post season appearances. The Coastal Leagues 2030 Rookie of the year Derek Timney is on the move. An abysmal start combined with Vegas' sputtering April forced the 51's to offer up Bill Wareham and the Hooks made the move. Asiman Swagat becomes the full time catcher in Corpus Christi.

He's still a year out of arbitration but this deal, with a base salary of 2.5/3.5/4.5/7.5 and 10.5 with a 10.5 M club option will end up being a huge savings if all stats well. This is the 2nd major injury he's had in the last 2 years but he is not a soft player. 2033 Amateur Draft
2033 AMATEUR DRAFT I pick 26th in the 1st, and then my next pick isn’t until #106 (31st in the 3rd) so there will be a premium on ‘safe’ picks this year. I’ll follow the 1st round until I pick. 1) Dallas – Harley Crawford LHP 6’ 190 Houston Baptist College – Consensus top 2 arm in the draft. Upper 90’s power lefty, 1st of 2 picks for Dallas in the top 4. (2) 2) Fresno – Ken Lord LHP 6’2” 200 Pacific U. – Polished college lefty. Low 90’s FB/SL/CH mix (6) 3) Michigan – Hector Rosales RHP 6’1” 180 Crystal City HS, TX – low 90’s power arm, hard worker and a leader. A ways off. Top rated P prospect in the draft (1) 4) Dallas – Fernando Cetulio RHP 5’9” 175 Ball State – Dallas grabs a potential 1 and 2 in the 1st 4 picks. Upper 90’s power FB/Cutter with potential HoF change. Concern is size 5) Brooklyn – Kevin Starr RHP 6’ 175 Texas-Arlington – Superstar two-way talent. Can be an ace or a 3 hole hitter and a likely all star for years at either. No idea which way he’s going but huge ceiling whichever way he does. (9) 6) Philadelphia – Sam Curtis OF 6’ 170 Scarborough HS, TX – 1st position player taken. Off the charts power to go with a .400+ OBP approach. Great speed but average base runner. Tools and skills to play across the OF. 7) Edmonton – Dave O’Clery RHP 6’ 190 U. of Nevada – Top 5 arm coming in. Upper 90’s mix but questions all over about makeup. 4 pitch guy with all 4 being + pitches. (8) 8) San Jose – Luis Valencia LHP 6’1” 185 Abington HS, MA – Mid 90’s lefty with huge potential out of HS. 3 pitch mix with outstanding curve ball. Hard worker with high baseball IQ. 9) Arizona – Noah Crabbe OF 6’ 180 Dallas Baptist College – Corner OF with leadoff skills and top of the charts speed. Just the 2nd position player taken so far. Great work ethic and big ceiling (4) 10) Houston – Francisco Maria LHP 5’11” 195 Oral Roberts U. – Hardest throwing lefty in the draft. Works 97-99 consistently with 3 ++ pitches and a developing change up. 11) Tulsa – Andy Pitts RHP 6’ 195 Portland U. – Few expected him to be here this late. Righty with huge arm, 4 pitches ++ fastball. A future manager with off the charts baseball IQ. (5) 12) Buffalo – Steve Bell 3B 5’11” 185 Canisius U. – First infielder taken. Huge wheels, potential 70+ SB leadoff bat who is already a ++ defender at 3B. (7) 13) Hawaii – Jesus Castaneda 1B 6’3” 225 Bronx CC – Prototypical 4 hitter who gets on base as well. Rated 18 glove at 1B today. At 21 I would want a more polished bat but he has big time power potential. Work ethic is a concern. (3) 14) New Orleans – Geoffrey George IF/RF 5’10” 185 Wichita State – above average runner, ++ defender around the IF and can play RF. Not sure where the bat ends up as he has below average pop and will likely peak at .275, if that. Does have good strike zone discipline. 15) West Michigan – William Murdoch RHP 6’2” 205 Northern Illinois U – Steal at 15, 93-95 with 3.5 pitches (slider developing). ++ Change up and big stamina. (10) That’s the top 10 prospects Unsure of what to expect 11 picks from now. Bryan McBride (OF) Mark Shelton (IF/OF) and Mario Guerrero (1B/OF) are all potentials. ROUND #Pick 1 #26 Dave Phillips OF L/L 6’3” 185 St. Johns – A potential sleeper. 75 steal speed, potential for 30 HR power and a 3 hole bat. Taken in the 2nd round by Fresno last year 60th overall. Extreme work ethic and excelled against outstanding competition as a freshman. 3 #106 Mark Shelton IF/OF 6’3” 180 Waldport HS, OR – Huge bargain. Asking 2M but a legit 1st round talent that, for some reason, is still hanging around. Great teammate, good clubhouse influence. Enormous power potential and + speed as well as a hitter that rarely swings and misses. Could be one of the biggest steals in my draft history. 4 #138 Chris Turner 1B/DH 6’ 195 Overland HS, CO – Huge power ok wheels. Needs a ton of work in the field but just 17 5 #170 Shannon Roberson SS 6’1” 170 Malden HS, MA – Exceptional legs, great bunter, 17 years old and extremely coachable. Low risk high reward talent. 6) Ken Hobbs LHP 6’6” 205 Sweetwater HS (19) 7) Don Murray OF 6’1” 195 Florida Atlantic (22) 8) Randall Porter 1B 6’3” 220 South HS, FL (19) 9) Mike Robertson OF 6’1” 180 Abbeville HS, LA (19) 10) Lucas Kohlund C 6’4” 255 Clairemont HS, CA (18) 11) Dan Harris 2B 6’ 190 Boston College (21) 12) Jonathan Conway OF 6’1” St Johns (21) 13) Cole Pruitt SS 6’ 185 Alabama (22) 14) Ruben Elias C 6’1” 195 Logos Prep Academy, TX Asking 2.6M 15) Tom Kemp RHP 6’1” 175 Centennial HS, FL Asking 2.8M 16) Scot Williams RHP 5’10” 165 Douglass HS, LA Asking 2.8M 17) Roberto Chavez SS 6’2” 175 Hana HS, HI Asking 2.8M 18) Mario Soto RHP 5’10” 160 Victor Valley Christian HS, CA (17) 19) Dave Adams RHP 6’2” 185 Mid-Pacific Institute, HI (18) Asking 2.6M Took a ton of bonus babies late, to both stop the overflow in the minors but also on the off chance I can catch a break. Also made the draft 20 rounds with players out to 30 rounds available.

Newly acquired Jose Chavez will be called up for a few starts. 6/21 SAN 12 FRE 4 W-O”Dell (7-5) L-Towns (4-11) HR FRE-Jaquias (7) SAN-Heeren (16) Vela (1) O'Dell 7 IP 11 K 3 ER Hutchison 5-5 BB 3 R SB (13) 2 RBI (52) Beard 3-5 2B (3) BB 2 R RBI (6) Manuel 3-5 3B (1) R 3 RBI (39) Vela 3-5 HR 2 R RBI (7) Towns (FRE) 1.2 IP 9 H 7 ER (4-11 7.19) 6/22 FRE 13 SAN 7 (11) W-Gibbs (4-3) L-Kijani (0-1) HR FRE-Vela (2) Ward 2 (12) SAN-Peterson GS (13) Hutchison 2 LO (17) Vela (FRE) 4-6 2B HR 3 RBI (6) Perez (FRE) 3-5 2B (12) 3 R Ward 2-5 2 HR 3 R 4 RBI (39) Hutcison lead off HR 3-4 2 HR 2 BB 3 R 3 RBI (55) Peterson grand slam 4 RBI (44) Bullock 3-5 2B (19) Perez 3-5 2B (6) 6/23 FRE 5 SAN 1 W-O'Dunn (7-5) L-Chavez (0-1) S-Hawking (1) HR FRE-Ward (13) Perez (15) De Los Santos (2) Ware (1) Chavez 7 IP 3 HR 10 K 4 ER O'Dunn (FRE) 7.2 IP 8 H 0 ER 6/24 SAN 3 LV 2 (10) W-Brooks (3-2) BS (6) L-Lee (2-2) S-Valdez (1) HR NONE Kirk 8 IP 4 H 1 ER Brooks 1.1 IP 2 H 2 BB BS (6) Heeren 2 errors (13) Gamboa (LV) 6.2 IP 10 K 2 ER 6/25 SAN 9 LV 3 W-Hall (5-0) L-Burks (2-10) HR SAN-Bullock (24) Hutchison (18) Hall 7 IP 8 H 2 K 3 ER Hutchison 2-4 BB HR 2 R 2 RBI (57) Bullock 2-4 BB HR 2 R 2 RBI (64) Weijers 3B (2) 3 RBI (50) Heeren 2-4 BB 2 2B (17) RBI (59) (.384) Burks (LV) 4.2 IP 6 ER (2-10 5.69) Aguilar (LV) 4-5 3B (3) SB (23) 2 R 6/26 LV 4 SAN 1 (11) W-Rowan (2-2) L-Opacic (5-2) HR SAN-Weijers (15) LV-Silquero (5) Marquez WO (11) O'Dell 7.1 IP 2 H 10 K 1 ER Cruz (LV) 9 IP 7 H 4 K 1 ER Marquez (LV) 3 run walk off HR PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FL POTW- Manny Ramirez (COL) 14-32 4 HR 15 RBI (.393-21-71) CL POTW- Lorne Bishop (DAL) 13-26 2 HR 5 RBI (.340-18-44) IBL CAREER LEADER: HITS 3319 Luis Chavez (CHI) 3227 Curt Whimster 2554 Andre Blakeway (COL) 2464 Jeffrey Hudson 2358 Gerald Wright POWER RANKINGS 1) Alaska (1) 2) Baltimore (2) 3) Pittsburgh (5) 4) San Antonio (4) 5) Arizona (3) NEWS NOTES: Michigan is shoring up the leagues #1 defense, both middle IF's are hurt right now.

81 games in
San Jose fired manager Glen Miller this week. The Sharks have struggled mightily the past 3 years and a change was clearly needed. In a stunning move the Sharks reached out, and then hired, former GM Enrique Gonzalez who was let go earlier this year as the GM of the Hawaii Warriors. He has no dugout experience.
Never thought I'd see the day the Iron Pigs were the last team in the Wild Card standings. And after 81 games I love where this club is. Derek Craig went down on the 8th, since then the club is just 9-9 but he's due back soon. We are hammering the ball, and the offense is where I want it to be. Ramirez is having a real bad year and the hope was he'd bounce back. Tony Booth, if he can stay healthy, is close to ready. I also need to find an every day catcher soon. Both of mine are older and Perez is a FA after this year. Vela can certainly provide a stop gap, but that's a priority. Pitching wise 2 things are obvious. Jake Scott is not ready, and may not be the prospect I'd hoped, and Ron Brooks is not the clubs future closer. Leon Whaley is doing fine for now, and Martin is a possible option. Herman O'Dell is bouncing back after a horrid April (1-3 6.49) and is 3-0 1.83 in June. While Cody Miller is a fine opening day guy, I still lack the power ace to open a post season series and shut down a team like Alaska.
