Not surprised they put Peralta at SS instead of Iglesias - they need the offense badly, and Iglesias just isn't producing in the post-season.
I do wish they hadn't put Jackson at lead-off - the guy is a strikeout magnet. |

Agreed on Jackson. Not sold on Peralta at SS. I don't see a donkelly for Inglesias as a big enough trade up the offensive ladder to compensate for the defensive downgrade.

The Tigers will be bailing on Inglesias within a year or so and will find another decent hitting dude with a a pair of stones at the end of his arms.
My Tigers pessimism runs deep.

So it's already starting. I'm sorry, but unless Iglesius is hurt, he plays. And if were talking about producing...Don Kelly wouldn't be playing. Wow! Sometimes I really dislike how this team is run.

Agreed on Kelly. Gray is a righty, so why isn't Dirks starting? Look at their regular-season numbers against righties:
Kelly: .220 average, .674 OPS, 6 HR, 18 RBI. Dirks: .260 average, .698 OPS, 7 HR, 33 RBI. Fielding (LF): Kelly: -0.7 DWAR (Defensive WAR), 19.591 ZR (Zone rating) Dirks: 0.5 DWAR, 11.232 ZR. I don't get it. What in the world is Leyland thinking here? Last edited by RandyTiger; 10-10-2013 at 05:01 PM. |

I guess they figure Cabrera will make up for all the ground Iglesius covers that Peralta can't...oh wait.

Yeah really don't understand sitting Iglesias for donkelly... well if we're going to win there's no other choice but to do it with Leyland making the decisions.

This could give you some insight on the defensive positioning: https://twitter.com/matthewbmowery/s...06195905503232

I wonder if Iglesius is hurt. If so, I take back what I'm thinking right now.

*checks* This year, he has a 0.67 ground ball to fly ball ratio. Career, he has 0.71 ratio. I guess that makes some sense. Iglesias has shin-splint issues, plus he hasn't really recovered from that left wrist injury (from back when he got nailed by a pitch last month). |

And predictably, Jackson strikes out to lead off the game.
He really needs to see an eye doctor in the off-season. |

I really don't understand why he's having these issues. He got rid of the leg kick that's caused him so much trouble in the past, and now, it's like his depth perception or something similar has gone wonky.
Or maybe he's just one of those guys who can't seem to keep their focus on the ball when it comes their way. In that case, move him to the 9 slot and keep him there. |

Verlander seems to have the A game thus far.
IF they get past Oakland, Infante needs to lead off and Inglesias has to be at short - period, full stop. Of course, the brain trust will disagree.

Verlander has been terrific, 3 K's already in 2 innings. As long as he keeps that up, the Cats have a chance.
