3 Home Runs for Pipp
Wednesday, May 6th, 2015: Wally Pipp, the Indianapolis first baseman, blasted three homers today at Sounders Ballpark in the Engines 10-2 victory against the New York Heroes.

In the clubhouse after the game, he gleefully said to the press, "It was just one game, but it sure was a lot of fun -- 3-for-4, three roundtrippers and a win. What a day!"

Pipp is batting at a .280 pace this season, picking up 14 hits in 50 at-bats with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Big Day with Bat: White 5-5
Wednesday, May 6th, 2015: Today Roy White led Sacramento to a 15-4 victory over the Boston Riders. He stoked 5 hits in 5 at-bats to spark his club in the win.

White hit a solo-shot off Red Munger in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 7th.

This season White is batting at a .330 clip with 2 home runs and 18 RBIs.

Jones Zeroes in on Orlando
Wednesday, May 6th, 2015: It was a razor-sharp performance by Randy Jones of the Las Vegas Bosses against the Orlando Orcas. He fashioned a fine 5-hitter in blanking them 6-0 and chalked up 3 strikeouts and no walks.

This year Jones has fashioned a 3-2 mark, 3.18 ERA and pitched 39.2 innings.

Louisville Befuddled by Stewart
Thursday, May 7th, 2015: The Racers tried, but could not solve Sacramento's Dave Stewart, falling to the Stingers 7-0. Louisville managed only 4 hits off Stewart, who kept opposing hitters guessing all day. In a strong route-going performance he had 1 strikeout and walked 5.

To date this season Stewart sports a 3-1 mark with a 2.76 ERA in 5 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .228 batting average and has 13 strikeouts in 32.2 innings.

Wyse Records Shutout Against Boston

This year Wyse has a 3-2 record with a 3.10 ERA.

Weilman Fires Shutout in Engines Win
Saturday, May 9th, 2015: Carl Weilman of the Indianapolis Engines was one tough customer on the hill today. He blanked the Boston Riders 1-0 on 5 hits, registering 8 strikeouts and no walks.

"When he's on, he's tough to hit," said the Boston manager after the game. "He's just a bulldog out there."

So far this season Weilman has a 3-2 record with a 3.02 ERA.

Frank Schulte Out of Action
Saturday, May 9th, 2015: After the end of today's game between Memphis and Los Angeles, Frank Schulte skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after making a defensive play, the Strummers had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The right fielder will miss at least 2 weeks with an unspecified hand injury.

Schulte is presently batting .333 with 2 home runs, 13 runs scored and 14 RBIs. His OBP is .395.

Racers Lose Joe Jackson
Monday, May 11th, 2015: Louisville fans will be disappointed to learn that Joe Jackson suffered a fractured wrist while making a defensive play in today's game. After the doctor informed the Louisville Racers manager that Jackson was expected to miss 4 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the right fielder could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

So far this season Jackson has gotten 37 hits in 128 at-bats for a .289 batting average with 2 home runs. His stats include 13 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has played in 31 games.

6-Hit Game for Dougherty
Friday, May 15th, 2015: "It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Patsy Dougherty after his 6-hit performance against the Tides. "No offense meant to St. Louis, but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Navy Pier Field."

The Chicago left fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 6 hits in 7 at-bats and pacing his club to a 5-4 victory.

His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Patsy worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."

"That's what I'm trying to do," Dougherty said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Dougherty tripled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, walked in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th and singled in the 14th.

Killen Guns Down Hitmen
Tuesday, June 9th, 2015: "It was just one of those games, when everything went right. I threw a lot of strikes," Frank Killen said. "And the pitches they did get to hit, they didn't do anything with them."

The New York Heroes pitcher really got it done in his 6-0 shutout victory over the Chicago Hitmen, shutting them down on 3 hits. Killen issued no walks and had 3 strikeouts.

Currently Killen has a 5-6 won-lost record in 12 starts with a 4.62 ERA. He also has 48 strikeouts in 87.2 innings.

Veale Tosses Shutout
Friday, June 12th, 2015: In an impressive outing, Bob Veale whitewashed the Boston Riders 3-0.

"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Veale, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.

"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."

The Sacramento hurler held Boston scoreless, allowed 3 hits, chalked up 6 strikeouts and yielded no walks.

In 13 starts this season Veale has compiled a 9-2 record and a 2.50 ERA.

Cougars' Hines Smacks 5 Hits
Sunday, June 14th, 2015: "It was like I was hitting little league pitching again," said Paul Hines after his 5-hit performanace against the Brigade. "No offense meant to Wichita, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Cougar Field. I'm just not too happy that we lost 8-6."

The Charlotte center fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats.

His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Paul worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."

"That's what I'm trying to do," Hines said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it. It sure did work today."

Hines singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, flied out in the 9th and singled in the 12th.

"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."

Dennis Martinez Sidelined for 3-4 Weeks
Wednesday, June 17th, 2015: Dennis Martinez at first refused to leave today's Las Vegas-Boston game after he suffered a hamstring strain while throwing a pitch. They dove into the free agent market, signing Charley Jones (38 homers, 114 RBI last season) and Roger Connor (31, 104) in addition to bringing back Josh Hamilton (18, 75) to back Babe Ruth in what should have been baseball's most feared lineup, particularly figuring Frank Baker and Biz Mackey would build off strong rookie seasons.

What happened?

Jones: Broken ankle second week of season, done at least until August
Hamilton: Suffers devastating shoulder injury in spring training, out for season
Connor: .276-4-37 so far, well off pace he set in six years in New York.
Baker: Posted .870 OPS last season, .760 this season
Mackey: After .300-7-61 rookie season, tore back muscle during spring, out until at least late July.

Despite a horrible April, Ruth leads the majors in homers and is second in RBIs. But he's gotten zero help, and the pitching staff that was so strong last season has slipped to the middle of the pack.

They are 4-12 in 1-run games and a stunning 12-24 at home. It's just been a really rough ride. They host first-place Wichita for four this coming week...they could have their season ended in short order here.

Stone's Hit Streak Soars to 20 Games
Monday, June 22nd, 2015: George Stone has been ripping hits every day for quite some time, and no team seems to be able to stop him. The Wichita left fielder got 1 hit today against the Chicago Hitmen and now has a 20-game hitting streak. The Brigade won the game 5-4.

Stone struck out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a two-run triple in the 8th.

Stone is hitting .362 for the season with no home runs, 40 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He has 104 hits in 287 at-bats and played in 63 games.

Coakley Toys with Milwaukee
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015: It was a razor-sharp performance by Andy Coakley of the Indianapolis Engines against the Milwaukee Bangers. He fashioned a fine 2-hitter in blanking them 4-0 and chalked up 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Coakley has made 13 starts so far this year and put up a 9-3 won-lost record with a 3.70 ERA. In 107 innings he has allowed 118 hits, walked 40 and struck out 32.

Nunamaker Sizzles with 20-Game Batting Streak
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015: Every day everyone is checking up on Les Nunamaker to see if he got a hit to keep his hitting streak alive. Today's answer is "yes." He did it with a 1-4 day against the Bangers. The Indianapolis Engines catcher stretched the streak to 20 games in his team's 4-0 triumph over the Milwaukee Bangers at Bangers Ballpark.

Nunamaker singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

Nunamaker is batting at a .257 pace this season, picking up 61 hits in 237 at-bats with 7 home runs, 36 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

Oklahoma City Center Fielder Hurt
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015: Scorpions center fielder Moose McCormick was hurt making a defensive play during today's Orcas game and suffered a fractured thumb. He will be laid up about 3 weeks.

This season McCormick is swinging the bat at a .348 rate with 88 hits in 253 at-bats. To date he has hit 1 home run, scored 24 runs and driven in 21.

Bruney Re-Signs with New Orleans
Wednesday, June 24th, 2015: Reports began circulating several days ago that Brian Bruney would re-sign with the Knights, but didn't materialize until today when the club officially confirmed BNN's reports.

Details were sketchy, though New Orleans did say Bruney would be with the club 3 years beyond his current deal.

For the year Bruney has saved 0 games while posting an ERA of 0.00 and 2 strikeouts in 5 innings. His totals also include a 0-0 record in 6 relief appearances.

Hitmen Barker Tames Wichita
Thursday, June 25th, 2015: Wichita bats were ice cold today at Battalion Ballpark. Chicago's Len Barker chilled them down with a 4-0 victory. In a fine outing, the 24-year-old hurler allowed 4 hits while striking out 3 and walking 4.

Checking out his stats for the year, Barker has racked up 5 wins and 7 losses in 15 starts, 3.75 ERA and struck out 51 batters in 115.1 innings.

Falkenberg Magnificent in Arizona Win
Thursday, June 25th, 2015: The Dune played host to a command performance by Cy Falkenberg of the San Antonio Sheriffs. In shutting out Arizona 4-0, Falkenberg limited the Sandmen to 4 hits. The 24-year-old hurler also fanned 4 and walked 1 in capturing the victory.

Gross and LaCoss Traded
Friday, June 26th, 2015: Several Sandmen and Knights players soon will have to start shopping for a new home. It was announced today that the two teams came to agreement on a trade. Arizona will get 26-year-old starting pitcher Mike LaCoss and New Orleans will pick up 30-year-old left fielder Gabe Gross in return. "I'm not surprised by the news," one of the players told reporters, "It's part of the business and I understand that. I am looking forward to playing for the Sandmen."

In 2015 Gross has hit at a .243 clip with 27 hits, 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and has scored 16 times.

This season LaCoss has compiled a 7-6 record with a 4.38 ERA in 14 starts.

Louisville, New Orleans Agree to Deal
Friday, June 26th, 2015: Signed... Sealed... and Delivered.
Louisville has worked out terms of a deal to send 27-year-old shortstop Ozzie Smith to New Orleans for 25-year-old starting pitcher Mickey Lolich. Both teams expect to introduce their new players at press conferences later in the week.

The slick fielding Smith hasn't played in the PBL this season, spending the year on Louisville's reserve squad. But Jimmy Rollins' lack of production in New Orleans means Smith should get some ABs simply by virtue of his defensive worth.

Thus far this season Lolich has posted a 3-4 record, started 8 games, struck out 31 batters in 70.2 innings and compiled a 4.58 ERA.

Stone's Hit Streak Over
Friday, June 26th, 2015: Lady Luck was not on the side of George Stone or his teammates today at Bangers Ballpark. Everything went the Milwaukee Bangers way. They not only came away with a 9-2 victory, but also held Stone hitless in 1 at-bat to put an end to the left fielder's 23-game hitting streak.

"It was a good run," Stone said afterward. "But it'd be much easier to take right now if we had won."

Currently Stone has no home runs and a .360 batting average.

Streak Finally Over, Nunamaker Hitless
Friday, June 26th, 2015: The Sacramento Stingers got more than a 4-1 victory over Indianapolis today at Pathfinders Ballpark. They put an end to Les Nunamaker's 22-game hitting spree by holding him without a hit in 3 at-bats. But it was no big deal to the Engines catcher.

Nunamaker seemed to feel more for his team than himself.

"I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit. I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today."

Thus far this year Nunamaker has hit .266 with 8 home runs and 42 RBIs.

Brigade LF Griffey Out
Sunday, June 28th, 2015: The Brigade received bad news this morning. Ken Griffey will miss 3-4 weeks due to a strained hamstring. In the Wichita-Milwaukee game he sustained the injury while running the bases. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," Griffey sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."

For the season Griffey is currently batting .338 with 7 home runs and 31 RBIs. In 67 games he has reached base at a .401 rate and scored 54 runs to date.

Fletcher Week's Top Player
Monday, June 29th, 2015: 26-year-old Art Fletcher made a few Sacramento headlines during this past week as the rookie shortstop proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Northern League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 12 hits in 23 at-bats to put up a .522 average. Fletcher collected no home runs, 2 RBIs and scored 4 runs.

This season Fletcher has banged out 61 hits in 217 at-bats for a .281 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .311 pace and his totals also include 11 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

For the week the 25-year-old right fielder had a lofty .469 average (15-32), collecting 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

Saturday, July 4th, 2015: You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Los Angeles and Memphis
have made a swap with 26-year-old first baseman Tank Carr being shipped to the Strummers and in return the Idols would get 29-year-old starting pitcher Shawn Chacon and $860,000 in cash.

The Memphis general manager said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction. "This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines." A source inside the Los Angeles organization said "the two sides may not be done dealing and another transaction could be in the works".

Anson Signs for 3 years
Wednesday, July 8th, 2015: Cap Anson won't be testing the free agent market. The hotshot first baseman will pocket $19,565,000 after re-signing with the Orcas earlier today, and will hang around another 3 years.

Some more financially prudent fans worried that the signing would burden the club down the road and might prevent it from being competitive, though many others were simply thankful that Anson didn't bolt.

In the current season, Anson has put up a .312 batting average with 100 hits, 14 home runs, 48 RBI and scored 56 runs.

Star C Kennedy Signs Pact with Heroes
Wednesday, July 8th, 2015: Team officials triumphantly announced that the Heroes and superstar catcher Terry Kennedy have closed a deal that keeps the 26-year-old in a New York uniform for another 3 years.

Kennedy will earn $10,035,000 as part of the settlement.

Kennedy is currently hitting at a .336 pace with 6 home runs and 47 RBIs.

Injury Takes Toll, Joe Morgan Out
Thursday, July 9th, 2015: Disappointing news today for New York HeroesJoe Morgan was hurt colliding with a player at a base in their game against the Chicago Hitmen and has a sprained wrist. Team trainers were hesitant to predict a date for return but Morgan will go to the 15-day DL.

This season Morgan has hit at a .257 clip with 35 RBIs, 3 home runs and 45 runs scored.

Killen Hot, Hitmen Cold
Thursday, July 9th, 2015: Frank Killen had an impressive outing today. He hurled the New York Heroes to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Chicago Hitmen, yielding 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.

"He threw strikes and he was always around the plate," the Chicago skipper said. "The ball was doing everything he wanted it to do. We hit some balls hard, but they were all right at the fielders."

In pitching stats this season Killen has rung up 8 wins and 6 losses in 17 games. He has an ERA of 4.03 and has fanned 72 batters in 127.1 innings.

Eddie Collins Suffers Injury
Thursday, July 9th, 2015: The Wichita Brigade were dealt a severe blow when Eddie Collins was hurt colliding with a player at a base recently in a game against the Louisville Racers. After the game, the team trainer reported Collins suffered a concussion and will be out indefinitely.

Looking at his stats this year, Collins has compiled a .350 batting average, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 51 runs. He has played in 82 games and scored 62 runs.

LaCoss Bewilders Orcas in Shutout
Friday, July 10th, 2015: Mike LaCoss, the 26-year-old Arizona hurler, tamed the Orlando Orcas 6-0 at Universal Studios Stadium today. He limited them to 5 hits while fanning 4 and walking 2.

Currently LaCoss has a 8-6 won-lost record in 16 starts with a 3.98 ERA. He also has 48 strikeouts in 122 innings.

Engines Bedard Injured in Off-Field Incident
Saturday, July 11th, 2015: Team officials reported to the press that Indianapolis starting pitcher Erik Bedard was injured last night and suffered a hamstring strain when he collided with a parked car while drunk.
