I certainly do not want to pile on in their threads, but the swoons of the Mets and Tigers have been extraordinary.

Hey, we won! (I presume Westheim is still in shock.)

If Lindor (who hit #29 leading off last night's game) can hit another HR before season's end, he and Soto will become only the third pair of teammates to go 30/30 in the same year.

The first pair was Darryl Strawberry and Howard Johnson on the 1987 Mets
The other pair I have forgotten, as they were not Mets, and are therefore unimportant.

Ellis Burks and Dante Bichette, 1996 Rockies. I tell you, I knew that off the top of my head. I did not have to search for it at all! ()

I also know without looking () that the 30-30 club is rather exclusive. Only 50 players have ever achieved this feat, although the pace of new club members is accelerating in this century.

Shohei is the jaw-dropper, though. A 50-50 club, all to his own.

The Brewers are just phoning it in and crapping the bed heading into the post season. This is the opposite of what should be happening.

Those mid-90's Rockies teams could've won championships if they didn't play in Denver.

Ah, piffle!

As of June 12th:

Mets, 45-24 (led MLB)
Tigers, 45-25 (led AL)

Since:

Mets, 36-52 (1 game ahead in race for Useless 6th place)
Tigers, 40-47 (Tied for AL Central, slightly ahead of various WC contenders)

'tis but a scratch!

I hoped for a Mets-Tigers World Series.

Now I only hope that one day, this pain will end.

Over the summer, my daughter's boyfriend and I agreed to go to NY for a game if it came to pass (he's a long island Mets fan). We have not discussed it much lately.

Talk about east coast bias.

Cal Raleigh hits his 59th home run and it's not even on the ESPN.com front page but Aaron Judge's 50th is.

You are not wrong. Raleigh deserves so much more attention for his season.

Cal is also a triple away from hitting for the cycle with one or two at bats left.

Both Det & Cle lose. Remain tied for 1st. the 'land owns the tiebreaker. Any Det loss w/Cleveland win clinches for Guardians.

Detroit's loss was to the RSox. Boston gets 2nd WC. Astros lose to the Angels. A Houston loss & wins by Det Clev eliminates the 'stros & clinches the playoffs for the Guardians & Tigers

And then there was one...........

Ties remain for the AL East & Central leads. Toronto win, Cleveland win gives them the divisions. Yanks loss or Tigers loss also gives them the title. New York & Detroit must win & have the Jays/Guardians lose to claim 1st place. Winner of East also wins home field advantage.

Detroit & Cleveland wins clinch the postseason despite Houston also winning since they own tiebreakers over the Astros.

Reds & Mets win remaining tied for the final spot in the NL. Cincy win or NY loss eliminates the Mets. They need to win plus Cincinnati to lose claim the final WC.

Final weekend series.........

Tampa @ Blue Jays
Baltimore @ Yankees
Detroit @ Red Sox
Texas @ Guardians

NYMets @ Miami
Cincinnati @ Brewers

Things were looking good in the first innings as the Yankees took a 1-0 lead and the Rays scored a run in the top of the first against the Jays. But of course, the Jays responded with 5 runs (so far) in the bottom of the first. Forget it.

Brewers tanking because they're afraid of the Mets, obviously.

(In reality, the Mets gave the WC away on Friday. Can't expect help from a team with nothing to play for. Farewell, Pete.)
