Nope meant the Red Sox ... since they have lost 5 of 6 and only scored 2 runs over the last two games. A nice stretch for the Yankees always looks better when the Red Sox are struggling and vice versa.

Gosh, I need a vacation (from these boards, at least). I'm starting to lose it. Come to think of it, some have accused me of already having lost it.

Thanks, mh. YankeePride, you were 100% correct on all counts.

Yea, I figured it was Red Sox because if the Sox aren't scoring then they aren't winning. If they aren't winning and the Yanks are then it's good timing for the Yanks.

That was my thinking behind mh's comments.

Still a huge hole for the Yanks.

Still not really scoring tonight either. Thankfully the pitching is holding up though. A [jinx coming up] no-hitter from Schilling through 6 [/jinx coming up]

And pitched pretty well considering the layoff and the "fatigued groin". The offense is finally starting to score runs too so maybe Pettitte can finally get a few wins under his belt Only 2 games under .500 now

Oh how everything seems a bit better... Except the Sox winning in 10 last night.

This team is really starting to roll, playing like they should.

All the Yanks have to do is pick up 1 game a week and all is good

Caution: Last two opponents are not exactly grade-A quality right now. But yes, hitters are hitting, pitchers are pitching, fielders are fielding, and runners are running the way that they should.

Um, before I get justly flamed for that comment, let me be more specific. You guys know this, but I will recap for the casual reader and visitor to this prestigious and influential thread.

Abreu, Cabrera, and Cano have all started hitting at the same time. Cabrera in CF, moving Damon to DH (the "blessing in disguise," as Torre put it, about Giambi on the DL) is working out well. Combined with Jeter, Posada, Matsui, and A-Rod, this is the potent line-up that we thought we had (and did have in April, but that seems so long ago).

Torre puts Cairo in at 1B in response to Mientkiewicz's injury, and he proceeds to look like he's been playing there his entire career, thereby annoying the heck out of Phelps, I bet. Too bad, whatever works.

What a pleasure that the starting rotation seems to be settled now. That's not just about Clemens, although he does complete the picture if he can continue to give quality starts (see caution above). We had to go through the weeding-out process to find and rid ourselves of Igawa, Wright, and DeSalvo (and Pavano, although he took care of that himself). It's unfortunate about Hughes, Karstens, and Rasner, but we may not need them now. In the future, yes, but hopefully not now.

The only bad news right now is the bullpen. You got to know that Proctor, Farnsworth, Villone, and Vizcaino are going to cost you some games down the line. I would have lumped Myers in there, but I looked at his ERA just now, 2.84! When did that happen? Anyway, I wish the Yankees would have released one of those other guys and kept Britton with the team.

One more item of note, did you see that the Yankees drafted an ambidextrous pitcher in the 45th round (though that being an indication that his chances of making the MLB are remote)? I would like to see that guy pitch. Heck, I just want to look at his specially made glove that fits either hand. It would be great if the rules permitted a pitcher to switch arms during an at-bat, can you imagine? However, I read that pitchers must pitch from the same side for the entire at-bat.

Many good points, I agree with alot of what you said.

When are they going to realize Farnsworth just isn't cutting it? Maybe let a couple of these kids pitch from the pen to gain some experience.

And while these teams are not the best, its a good confidence builder, especially if we can come in and win today!

Igawa will most likely be a decent big league starting pitcher. 5 starts/30 IP is a pitiful job of clearing the weeds.

Through seven innings and ARod has jacked two more home runs to bring his major league leading total to 24. Yankees up 10-6.

Alex is only 13 home runs shy of 500.

I might agree with you on that last point if the Yankees had not seen the necessity of sending a $26 million (plus salary) investment down to Class-A ball so somebody could teach him a better delivery. True story. He bombed his first start at AAA, but his last two outings have been good, so we'll see. For now, he remains a weed.

He also has 63 RBI's! One of the announcers that I am listening to wondered if A-Rod might have 100 RBI's by the All-Star break.

Here's a little snippet from a Newsday article:

Quote:

Rodriguez enjoyed another multihomer game yesterday - his fourth of the year - but perhaps the most encouraging part of the Yankees' 13-6 win over the Pirates was the official breakthrough game of Bobby Abreu's season.

He went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk, three RBIs and four runs scored, but the Yankees were just as pleased that he saw 34 pitches in five plate appearances. That's as much a sign as any that he finally has emerged from his funk.

Alex talked about that briefly as well. He mentioned how much fun it was watching Bobby bat and hitting behind him.

6.8 pitches/at-bat in yesterday's game for Abreu. And he goes 4-4 raising his average above .270.

Rumors circulated a bit that the White Sox were interested in sending Dye to New York for Abreu. The White Sox believed that Bobby's best baseball had yet to be played. Guess they were right and unfortunately for them, Bobby picked up it too early.

New Yorkers love it, though.

Yeesh, that would have almost been as bad as the rumored Giambi for Figgins/Molina deal
