Fitzsimmons makes quick work of Russell

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization.

October 4, 1909

Bob Fitzsimmons (33-4) starched challenger Fred Russell (C3/4) (13-6) in 1:37 for his second defense of the WBC LHW title. Fitzsimmons also holds the WBA but it wasn't on the line in this fight.

Russell never landed a punch and Fitz never missed in this mismatch.

On the undercard

MW - Tommy Ryan (7/7) (36-2-1) UD10 George Rooke (17/21) (15-16-1)
FW - Kid Broad (30/29) (11-8-1) TKO4 Fred Delaney (UR) (6-7-1) (delaney at pre)
HW - Frank Mantell (20/9) (12-4) UD10 Nick Burley (43/35) (15-9) (Mantell at pre)
LH - Yank Kenny (UR/13) (5-7-3) UD10 Charlie Haghey (UR) (10-4) (both at pre)
HW - Jack Palmer (club) (15-18) UD10 Morris Heffey (club) (10-21-2) (both at end and Heffey stepped up to HW for this club fight)

Using the new aging formula which I just posted a thread on in the general discussion. The one we have been testing. So everyone who was prime when I instituted it will have 20-40 fights at prime still to fight before turning post prime.

Jackson disposes of Myer once and for all

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization.

October 7, 1909

After a narrow decision win in 1907 and a DQ win earlier this year Peter Jackson (23-3) finally put to rest his rivalary with Billy Myer (C7/11) (24-8-3) with a TKO5 to defend the WBC Welterweight title for the 11th time.

Jackson currently has the longest title reign with 11 defenses he has held the title for over 3 years. He also has the longest current winning streak and the 3rd longest of all time now at 21 straight.

Jackson swelled up Myer's right eye in the first round and controlled the action from the start. He hurt Myer midway through the 5th and then landed approx. 20 straight shots which caused the ref to step in and call the fight.

On the undercard

LW - Battling Nelson (5/5) (21-14-1) Tech DEC6 Billy Willis (UR) (9-3-1) (willis at pre)
FW - George Moore (28/20) (7-5-4) UD10 Young Byrnes (22/28) (7-8-1) (moore at pre)
HW - Dick Egan (24/24) (19-16) TKO9 Steve O'Donnell (UR) (8-1-1) (o'donnell at pre)
LW - Joe Ellingsworth (UR) (9-2) UD10 Harry Stone (UR) (8-5-1) (both at pre)
WW - Buddy Ryan (club/5) (12-12) UD8 Pat Farley (UR) (7-4) (farley at pre for this club fight, Ryan moved back up to the main division)

herrera finally wins easily

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization.

Aurelio Herrera (16/17) (16-8) finally got an easy win after several tough fights in a row. He scored a TKO5 over Dave Barry (UR) (6-8).

Herrera controlled the fight from the start and caused both of Barry's eyes to nearly swell shut. The fight was finally stopped in the 5th. Herrera swung often and wildly landing 31 out 106 punches on average per round.

His ranking should start to go up now as two losses are set to come off his last five fights.

On the undercard

FW - Ben Jordan (6/7) (10-3-3) DRAW10 Jerry Marshall (12/5) (9-6-2) (Jordan at pre)
HW - Dominic McCaffrey (10/11) (26-9-3) TECH DEC8 Mexican Pete Everett (UR) (10-4) (everett at pre)

LW - Jack Hanley (UR) (7-1) MD8 Frank Bartley (UR) (5-4) (both at pre for this club fight)

October 14, 1909

Peter Jackson (CH) (31-5-1) routed Jack Burns (F5/11) (15-6-1) with a TKO5 for his 6th defense of the IBF Heavyweight title).

Jackson dominated from the opening bell hurting Burns each round. Burns started carrying his hands low after the first. His left eye started to swell in the 2nd. He suffered a cut over his left eye in the 3rd. It was re-opened in the 4th and stopped because of the cut in the 5th.

On the undercard

MW - Joe Thomas (22/11) (13-3-3) SD10 Frank Craig (6/8) (25-13-2)
FW - Tommy Connolly (19/13) (11-6) UD10 Frank Zimpher (UR) (9-5) (zimpher at pre)

McAuliffe handles Attell

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization.

October 19, 1909

Jack McAuliffe (CH) (31-5-2) won a UD15 over Abe Attell (4/9) (32-9-1) for his 7th defense of the WBA lightweight title. Attell was a game challenger but couldn't overcome the point deductions for 3 flash knockdowns.

Attell was the faster more defensive fighter all night as McAuliffe only landed 26% of his punches but three knockdowns in the 2nd, 4th and 12th were too much to overcome. Attell was a bit undertrained for this fight also and it hurt him in the later rounds as McAuliffe took control late winning 5 out of the last 6 rounds.

I had the fight 145-140. Jason Wood, ringside expert, had it 144-142. The official judges had it 144-140/145-139/145-139.

On the undercard

BW - Terry McGovern (10/10) (29-7-4) KO10 Morris Rauch (UR/23) (7-7-1) (rauch at pre)
HW - Sam Langford (15/15) (21-6-1) KO1 J. Pickett (UR/46) (7-8) (pickett at pre)
LW - Danny Duane (19/13) (11-10-2) KO6 Harry Gilmore (14/11) (23-15-1)
HW - Cleve Hawkins (54/48) (9-6-2) TKO4 Peter Courtney (11/30) (11-4-1) (courtney at pre)
LW - Mike Cushing (club) (11-21-5) UD10 Tommy Coleman (club) (4-18) (both at post for this club fight)

Dixon handles Cohen

am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization.

October 28, 1909

George Dixon (CH) (28-7-1) survived an early scare and the knocked around challenger Cockney Cohen (20/23) (8-7-2) to score a UD15 and defend his WBC Bantamweight Title for the second time.

Cohen landed a perfect combination in the first round that almost won him the title. Dixon dropped like a bag of rocks and barely made it to his feet for the 9 count. Cohen pummeled him the rest of the round but didn't have enough time to finish him.

Dixon then took over the fight losing no more round the rest of the way, only losing a point for a foul in the 6th.

Cohen went to the canvas once in the 8th, once in the 10th, twice in the 14th and once in the 15th. But Dixon wasn't able to finish him off and Cohen went the distance.

I had it 147-134. Tom Trunzo, ringside expert, scored it 147-135. The official judges scored it 146-132/146-134/146-132. ** see note #1 at the bottom.

On the undercard

FW - Will Curley (11/8) (11-7-3) UD10 Jerry Barnett (UR) (8-5) (Barnett at pre)
LH - Bob McAllister (UR) (10-0) UD10 John Donaldson (9/7) (14-10) (mcallister at pre) **see note #2 at bottom
FW - Oscar Gardner (5/3) (14-4-1) UD10 Jimmy Dime (UR/16) (10-5) (dime at pre)
HW - Denver Ed Martin (53/44) (18-15) UD10 Jim Harvey (48/59) (9-6-1) (harvey at pre)
FW - Marty McCue (club/9) (13-13-1) UD8 Patsy Kline (UR) (6-2-1) (kline at pre, mccue at post for this club fight, Mccue moves back to the main division with the win)

That concludes the month of October. A couple of notes on this fight card

Note #1 ... While the title fight did seem like a mismatch Cohen fought Dixon twice IRL and beat him once despite only finishing with a 2-9 record.

Note #2 ... I misplaced Bob McAllister in the 3rd spot of a fight card ... for Chris from now on he will be treated like Herrera is for Javier, so he will always be the main bout on the card and will always have a write up. The only exception is if he is to fight a TC.

End of October 1909

Okay with the new aging formula in my universe which allows a fighter to have anywhere between 15-25 fights before getting to the PRIME stage, I have changed my parameters for moving up to the main division now. Instead of 8 wins or 13 fights, it is now 10 wins or 15 fights. The main reason is so they have a lesser opportunity of having to face prime fighters while still at pre-prime. Since that took effect there isn't much movement this month.

Movement (all club fighters who evened their record to move back to main)

HW - Billy Woods (12-12-2)

WW - Budd Ryan (12-12)

FW - Billy Barrett (11-11-5), Marty McCue (13-13-1)

Debut rankings (alot this month)

HW - Harry Laing (11-3-1) (A29, C27, F28)
HW - J. Pickett (7-8) (A47, C53, F48)
LH - Ralph Calloway (6-7-2) (A22, C22)
LH - Yank Kenny (5-7-3) (A13, C14)
MW - Jack Nelson (11-4) (A19, C19)
WW - Andy Watson (9-4-2) (A16, C16)
WW - Sammy Smith (7-5-3) (A21, C22)
LW - Johnny Clark (9-4-2) (A26, C29)
LW - Willie Ritchie (12-1-2) (A6, C12)
LW - Charley Sieger (9-3-3) (A19, C20)
LW - Young Donahue (9-4-2) (A21, C24)
FW - Leo Dobbins (7-8) (A26, C26)
FW - Tim Hegeraty (10-5) (A18, C21)
FW - Jimmy Dime (10-5) (A16, C18)
BW - Charles Goldman (13-1-1) (A1, C1)
BW - Tommy Doherty (8-6-1) (A20, C20)
BW - Morris Rauch (7-7-1) (A22, C22)

Beginners for November 1909

Exactley half of the 142 beginners were in action this month going 56-8-7 against the TC's. With the new aging system no one moved to club again this month.
