Logan Webb continued his hot streak, holding tough Wisconsin to just 1 run over 6.1 IP before turning it over to Whitlock and Lord, who combined for 2.2 scoreless innings to close out the 6-1 win.

The game was a close one, 2-1, until the 8th inning when both Beltre and Nunez delivered 2-Run hits, putting the score at the eventual final of 6-1.

Oklahoma downs Windy City 3-2. StL will travel to Oklahoma for a 4-game series after finishing the series vs Wisconsin and a series against Sacramento.

StL's 3.5 game lead in the division is their largest lead in weeks.

StL jumped out to a 2-0 1st inning lead on a run scoring double by Anthony, who would later score on a wild pitch.

Wisconsin would come back with 3 runs over 2 innings off SP Ohtani (3 ER in 6.2 IP). Romo would tie the game 3-3 in the 6th and the game would remain tied until the bottom of the 8th inning.

Hoffman entered the game and surrendered 4 consecutive hits, leading to 3 Warriors runs and a 6-3 lead, which would be enough to close out the win for Wisconsin.

Sam Aldegheri started the game with 3 no-hit innings, before running into trouble in the 4th. After allowing back to back doubles, Patrick hit a 2-run bomb, giving Wisconsin a 3R inning, and a 3-1 lead. He would not allow another hit until leaving the game in the 8th inning. But, that was enough for the Warriors as the Shires could only muster 1 run by Pete Brace.

[QUOTE]A 1st inning 3R opposite field HR by Eduardo Beltre sent signals that the Shires were going to end their 2g losing streak, but the Wisconsin Warriors kept battling. They kept chipping away at Sonny Gray and eventually got to him for 4 R in 6 innings, taking a 4-3 lead in the 7th. Ramon Laureano put the game away with a grand slam in the 8th, sending StL to their 3rd straight loss. StL ends the 2029 season, 5-11 versus Wisconsin./QUOTE]

Windy City takes advantage of the StL loss, winning a close 4-3 game against Oklahoma, bringing them to within 1.5 games of the division title and a postseason appearance.

The Shires started off hot, SP Ty Johnson struck out the first 5 Slider batters that he faced, finishing with 8 Ks total. In the 3rd inning, Nunez got it started by reaching 1B on an E6, advancing to 2B on the overthrow. Christian Moore singled home Nunez and Moore took 2B on the throw home. Ozuna reached 1B on an E5, and Moore scored the 2nd run on the 2nd throwing error in the inning. Fortune appeared to be smiling on St Louis.

In the bottom of the 4th, Cowser and walked, and with 1-out Arredondo tied the game with a 2R HR.

The game remained tied 2-2 until the the 6th when Crawford led off with a double, driving Johnson for the game. Descalso called for Jackson Kelley to provide relief, and he provided the opposite. After striking out the 1st batter he faced, Crawford doubled home Collier to give the Sliders a 3-2 lead. The next batter Cook drove a ball deep into the left field seats for a 2R HR. The next batter, Harry Ford, had the same idea and parked one over the LF wall giving the Sliders back to back HR and a 6-2 lead, and the eventual win.

After a horrific start to the season, White was replaced at 1B by Pete Brace as Ohtani took over DH fulltime.

A couple of months platooning at DH, or starting at DH when Ohtani pitches, White has steadily regained his stroke and is flat out hot in September.

Tommy Tanks continues his torrid September, and got the Shires on the board first with a 3rd inning solo HR that ignited a 3 run inning. Logan Webb held the lead, allowing just 1 ER over 5.1 IP before leaving the game with a strained back.

StL continued the run scoring and Tanks put the game away with a 3R HR in the 6th, achieving 3H games in consecutive days.

The Shires felt good coming into the final stretch with Othani and Aldegheri, 2 of the top candidates for the West's CYA, and things were looking great early on.

Going into the bottom of the 6th, the game was still scoreless due to Ohtani's 2-hit dominance and StL hitting into inning-ending DPs in the first 2 innings.

Ohntani walked Diaz to leadoff the inning, and then plunked the next batter Cowser, and then walked Collier, before Justin Crawford doubled down the 1st base line, clearing the bases. Sacramento would tack on an insurance run in the 8th, but it did not factor in as reliever Troy Melton was outstanding in relief, picking up the win in relief of Schwellenbach, who pitched 5 shutout innings.

With Ohtani slipping up in the 6th inning of last game and the offense not putting up any runs, StL turned to Aldegheri and White (back in the lineup vs LHP) to get the team back on track in the final push toward the division title and the postseason.

Both players did their part. Aldegheri delivered 7.1 shutout innings, allowing just 3 H while striking out 6. Tommy Tanks gave the Shires a 3-0 lead when he struck a 3R HR in the 4th, his 19th HR to go with 61 RBI in part-time action.

Sonny Gray allowed an early run in the 2nd inning, but StL evened it up in the bottom frame on a Meidroth double. Gray threw 3 more shutout innings before handing the ball off to young Skyler Hale, who was outstanding in relief. Roman Anthony provided a go ahead single in the 5th and an insurance run single in the 7th.

Ian Shortt outpitched Ty Johnson over 6 innings. Shortt allowed 0 R on just 3 H, while the Outlaws got to Johnson for a couple of runs.

It looked like this was how the rest f the game was going to go until 22yo Eduardo Beltre hit a solo HR in the 7th and then tied the game with a double in the 9th, sending the game into extra innings, where Hentges would get knocked around, allowing 3 runs after loading the bases with a single, walk, and HBP. Whitlock entered the game and allowed all 3 inherited runners to score on 2 hits.

With Logan Webb injured for the rest of the regular season with shoulder issues (injured 3 months, but in NABO injuries and fatigue are reset for the postseason), youngster Keifer Lord stepped in for a spot start and was solid, allowing just 2 ER in 5.2 IP.

In the 8th inning, trailing 2-1, and runners at 2nd and 3rd, Anthony grounded out to short, ending the threat. LA would respond with a run in the 8th to take a 3-1 lead heading into the 9th.

Romo hit a 1-out single, and Matt McLain was hit by a pitch by reliever Justin Martinez (8-7, 6 BS). Pete Brace doubled to left center, scoring Romo and sending McLain to 3rd. Struggling Nasim Nunez flew out to CF, scoring McLain to tie the game 3-3. Martinez gave Anthony the IBB, and Marcell Ozuna single home Brace to give the Shires a 4-3 lead.

Whitlock closed out the game with a scoreless 9th to earn his 1st save of the season.

Windy City loses to Wisconsin, effectively giving StL the division title as the Shires hold the tie breaker with a 9-5 record vs the Whitetails.

Quote:
In the past 4 seasons, the StL Shires have had two players achieve a 20-20 season. In 2029, they have 5 players contending for the achievement.

Christian Moore needs 5 SB
Chase DeLatuer needs 1 SB
Roman Anthony needs 1 HR
Shohei Ohtani needs 1 HR
Pete Brace needs 2 HR and 2 SB

StL has Ohtani and Aldegheri scheduled to pitch the next 2 games. If injuries & fatigue were not reset after the regular season, they would both rest for the playoffs, with the regular season already decided via tie breakers. But since we've always rest injuries (1) After Spring Training, (2) After All-Star Break, (3)At the end of regular season, they'll go ahead and make their starts and then head to the playoffs. It is what it is.

St Louis loses its last 2 games, and none of the players achieved a 20-20 season.

The Shires win the division due to the tie-breaker with Windy City.
Quote:
Winning the division on a tie-breaker doesn't feel that great. StL isn't the 1st NABO team to do it like this, but it feels cheap and anti-climatic. Next season I'll make sure to check the box for tie breakers to be settled by playing a tie breaker game.

I'll also only reset injuries after spring training. The logic behind resetting injuries at Opening Day, after the all-star break, and at the end of the regular season was simply to allow for some injuries to build depth, but to also keep the most talent on the field. But, it also feels kind of cheap due to it not being "baseball" and decreases the realism aspect.
