yeah, since you're knocking off plenty of players, it might be a problem to get more than the 16 teams for a while.

Their offenses are equally dominant, so it will likely come down to Satchel in Game 7. PREDICTION: Pilgrims in 7 |

1931 WORLD SERIES
9/27/1931 - GAME 1 PILGRIMS 7 - SHAMROCKS 3 In the first showdown between Satchel Paige and "Irish" Patrick, the Pilgrims' ace prevailed, nearly throwing a shutout if it weren't for a throwing error by Jimmie Foxx which allowed 3 runs to score in the 8th. Goose Goslin led at the plate with a double, a triple and 3 RBI. 9/28/1931- GAME 2 PILGRIMS 4 - SHAMROCKS 7 The Pilgrims outhit their rivals 12-7, but the Shamrocks were able to capitalize, beginning with a 4 run 1st inning. Earl McNeely had 3 hits and 3 RBI, while Sam Bankhead launched a 2 run rocket to put the game out of reach. 9/30/1931 - GAME 3 SHAMROCKS 15 - PILGRIMS 5 The Pilgrims' fans were collapsing in the aisles from shock as the Shamrocks bitchslapped the home team with 22 hits including 2 jacks from Babe Herman, 2 from Norman "Turkey" Stearnes, and another one from Sam Bankhead. Heinie Scheer also contributed with 4 RBI. 10/1/1931 - GAME 4 SHAMROCKS 8 - PILGRIMS 4 In the second showdown between Patrick and Paige, the Shamrocks prevailed on 4 hits from Babe Herman and 4 RBI from Rap Dixon to put them one win away from a series crown. 10/2/1931 - GAME 5 SHAMROCKS 7 - PILGRIMS 8 It appeared that the Shamrocks were headed for a Game 5 win when they got out to a 5-0 lead after the first 2 innings, but the Pilgrims posted a 5-spot in the 3rd and never looked back. Their rivals rallied in the 9th, but fell one run short, keeping the Pilgrims alive in front of an ecstatic home crowd. 10/4/1931- GAME 6 PILGRIMS 11 - SHAMROCKS 4 Back across town, the Pilgrims tie the Series up with a blowout of their own. Both John Beckwith and Joe Hauser knocked in 4 to put the games out of reach, forcing a decisive Game 7 and a rubber match between Satchel Paige and "Irish" Patrick. 10/5/1931- GAME 7 PILGRIMS 2 - SHAMROCKS 3, 10 innings Now THIS is the type of game fans expected from these two aces. Game 1 was an off game for "Irish" Patrick. Game 4 showed that Satchel Paige can also falter. Game 7 was another story entirely. The two aces battled it out for 9 innings, each allowing only 1 run, sending it to extras. In the top of the 10th, Patrick proved mortal as he gave up 2 singles and a walk. John Beckwith then knocked in a run with a long sacrifice fly to put the Pilgrims up 2-1. Patrick settled down and struck out Hack Wilson to stem the bleeding and give the Shamrocks a chance to strike back. In the bottom of the 10th, Pilgrims management made the inexplicable decision to pull Paige and bring in the closer Norm "King" Lehr with his pitiful 5.10 ERA. Immediately, Lehr walked the first batter, "Turkey" Stearnes. On his very next pitch, he uncorked a wild pitch, advancing Stearnes to 2nd. Three pitches later, Rap Dixon was walked as well, bringing up Mandy Brooks, the Shamrocks centerfielder. After Brooks fouled off four straight pitches, Lehr hurled another wild pitch, sending Stearnes and Dixon to 2nd and 3rd. The Shamrock fans were all on their feet, thundering their excitement with hoarse screams and pounding feet, and yet the Pilgrims kept Lehr in the game. One pitch later, Brooks laces a single over the head of Pilgrims firstbaseman Joe Hauser. Stearnes easily scores, tying the game, and Dixon barrels toward home easily beating the throw and winning the game and the Series in a most dramatic fashion. 1931 WORLD CHAMPS - BOSTON SHAMROCKS 2nd Championship SERIES MVP: Michael "Irish" Patrick - 2-1, 3.96 ERA, 25 IP, 22 Hits, 9 BB, 21 K |
