Logan Henderson

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 40 | Changeup: 60 | Cutter: 45 | Control: 55 | Overall: 45

Henderson was a wonderfully accomplished pitcher at the JuCo level as the national leader in strikeouts (169) and the Junior College World Series MVP for McLennan (Texas) CC in 2021. He went to the Brewers in the fourth round that summer, and his career has been marked by injuries since -- first elbow surgery in 2022 and then an oblique issue that delayed his opening to the 2024 season. He eventually posted a career-high 81 1/3 innings (primarily at Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville) and finished with a 3.32 ERA, 104 strikeouts and 15 walks in that span.

The 5-foot-11 right-hander has developed two plus pitches in his 91-94 mph fastball and 80-82 mph changeup. Henderson’s heater averaged over 17 inches of induced vertical break at Triple-A, placing it above many bats at the top of the zone, and that movement profile helped it play above the velo. The changeup is his best pitch with sufficient fade and separation to generate plenty of whiffs on its own. Henderson’s heat map is, as expected, more vertically focused as a result. He eschewed a low-80s slider for more of an 87-89 mph cutter during his time with Nashville for a sharper, gloveside look, but even so, seven-eighths of his pitch usage comes from the fastball or change.

Henderson repeats his delivery well, rarely pitching out of a full windup, and he’s become a regular strike pumper at the upper levels. That said, he can get hit around if the fastball seeps below the top of the zone or if he doesn’t bury the changeup. Added to the 40-man roster last November, the 23-year-old still has development ahead because of the lost innings, but his fastball-changeup mix could be good enough as is to help The Crew in a bullpen role soon. - mlbpipeline

Chito Martinez

He is yet to become the subject of one of those “Whatever Happened To?” stories. No one has compared him to some one-season flashes, or even half-season flashes, in recent Orioles’ history.

But the memorable summer of 1991 has turned into a forgettable spring of 1992 for Orioles outfielder Chito Martinez. In the what-have-you-done-for-us-lately world of major-league baseball, Martinez is merely struggling to survive. It is an ongoing battle and, unlike the Orioles, he is not winning.

“To me, the most important thing is that we’re winning,” Martinez was saying in the quiet of the Orioles’ clubhouse Sunday morning. “It’s difficult. Of course, I’d like to be in there more, but there’s no sense getting down.” Later that day, Martinez made his sixth start — subbing for Sam Horn as the Orioles’ designated hitter — in a 5-2 defeat to the Chicago White Sox. He went 0-for-3, and saw his average tumble to .080 (2-for-25) going into tonight’s game in Texas. The disastrous start to Martinez’s second season with the Orioles is in stark contrast to the way he ended his first: the final home run at Memorial Stadium, his 13th in 67 games, to go along with 33 RBIs and a solid .269 batting average.

“I enjoyed last year, being that it was my first year in the big leagues and doing as well as I did,” said Martinez, 26. “When I got called up, I was hitting the ball well [in Rochester] and my swing was in a groove. It’s hard to keep a good swing when you’re not playing. I don’t care how much time you spend in the [batting] cage or hitting off a tee, it’s a totally different situation when you’re facing a pitcher. I don’t have my swing right now.” - Baltimore Sun

Juan Sosa

On this Day, April 23, 2001: The Rockies traded Juan Sosa to the Diamondbacks for Ryan Owens. Sosa became perhaps the most irrelevant Diamondback ever, getting called up at the end of May after Matt Williams went on the DL with a hamstring problem. He came in as a late-inning defensive replacement on May 24, and was used as a pinch-runner for starter Robert Ellis the following day. We batted around and he ended the inning by striking out, it was his only PA as a D-back, as he was sent to the minors a few days later. - azsnakepit.com

I'll do the others too, but it was 1am and I'm still a few episodes from the end of Severance season 2, so I shut the computer down and didn't spend the whole late night on OOTP.

I'm in no rush so whenever you get to them is fine. And the last few episodes of Severance are really good.

Drew Gilbert and Brandon Sproat's facegens could use work. Sproat has shade on his face and Gilbert's just looks off.

Drew Gilbert

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

Gilbert was a fiery performer for a dominant Tennessee team in 2022 and went to the Astros with the 28th overall pick that July. He got off to a quick start with High-A Asheville in his first full season, moved to Double-A Corpus Christi, dealt with a left elbow issue and started to heat up in the Texas League when Houston dealt him to the Mets for Justin Verlander at the Trade Deadline. Gilbert posted a .984 OPS for Double-A Binghamton in 35 games after the trade but couldn’t build on that blue-and-orange momentum in 2024, primarily due to a right hamstring strain that kept him out of the Triple-A Syracuse lineup for three months. He slashed just .215/.313/.393 in 56 games at the Minors’ top level and didn’t fare much better with a .208 average and .783 OPS over 21 contests in the Arizona Fall League.

The former Volunteers star was defined by his kinetic play in the field before last season, but many who saw him thought he looked like he was tamping down on the energy coming off the hamstring. He still managed the strike zone fairly well but struggled making consistent contact against sliders and changeups. Without his typical burst, his exit velocities weren’t particularly strong either. But with his slightly open stance and raised-leg load, he could still lift and pull as well as anyone in Triple-A.

With more time to heal, Gilbert could get back to being an above-average runner in 2025, and he’ll need it if he’s going to stick in center. The addition of Juan Soto closed Gilbert’s route to right field, where his arm strength could have been a weapon. Mets officials say Gilbert is motivated to move past the injury and secure his place in New York’s plans. -mlbpipeline

Brandon Sproat

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 45 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 60 | Cutter: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 55

A rare two-time pick by the same organization, Sproat chose not to sign with the Mets as a third-round pick in 2022 but granted the organization permission to take him again a year later. New York did -- this time in the second round -- and signed him for slot at $1,474,500 after striking out 134 in 106 1/3 innings at Florida in 2023. Sproat flew through the Mets system in his first season, climbing from High-A Brooklyn to Triple-A Syracuse while posting a 3.40 ERA and fanning 131 in 116 1/3 innings.

The 6-foot-3 right-hander’s fastball stands out more for its velocity than its shape. Sproat will run the four-seamer up to triple-digits on occasion and continued to sit in the 95-98 mph range even late in the season at Triple-A. But there isn’t great ride on the pitch, and batters at the Minors’ top level took advantage, hitting .380 off the fastball alone. Sproat can also work in a sinker around the same velo band, and the extra look may be beneficial if he expands its usage. His upper-80s changeup gets the right amount of separation and fade to give the former Gator a weapon against lefties, and he works with both an 83-85 mph sweeping slider and harder 86-88 mph cutter. The former is better at generating whiffs. A 79-81 mph curveball offers another occasional breaker.

Sproat was control over command in his first taste of the Minors. He kept walk rates generally in check, but Triple-A batters proved they could bang pitches he leaves too much over the plate. That said, Sproat has the velocity and pitch mix to feature as a starter and should meaningfully contribute to New York’s rotation depth in 2025. - mlbpipeline

Hayden Senger

Hayden Senger's improbable journey from Lakota East High School to Miami University, to several years in the minor-leagues and an offseason job at Whole Foods as he continued to pursue his dream of playing in the big leagues has resulted in a spot on the New York Mets' Opening Day roster.

Senger, a 24th-round pick of the Mets in the 2018 draft, was told during a meeting with manager Carlos Mendoza and longtime catching instructors Glenn Sherlock and Bob Natal that he's joining second-string catcher Luis Torrens on the Mets' roster. - cincinnati.com

Until he left for Spring Training, he was also holding down a second job as a shelf stocker at Whole foods at 5am. Welcome to the majors, Hayden. Since I had a Mets fan with a request, I did this guy from my Debut checklist.

Hi Chris,

I probably updated it 4-5 times a year. The most recent was on OOTP26 release day, so go ahead and download it. Not even close to all the ones done between "releases" are posted individually.
