I've actually been surprised by this too. Reggie Jackson obviously is fantastic in the game, and would have been similar if he didn't get hurt, but ya, i wish i started doing the comparison earlier, because to me at least, its really interesting.

1974 Regular Season
Here are the top 10 prospect in baseball on opening day. ![]() Sandy, Sandy, Sandy…….are you that stupid?……WOW On the eve of the season, Koufax is racing his teammate and his severely injured in an accident. He’s 38!!! Come on Sandy, this is stupid. Well, I forgot to document the 756th home run by Harmon Killebrew, but he accomplished that feat sometime last year, at the age of 37!!! Killebrew hit 37 homers last year, and is on pace for over 30 again this year. I’ll make sure to say something when he hits number 800! ![]() Killebrew approaching 800 home runs! The Reds add a power bat as they attempt to win their title back, Willie McCovey, who is on the verge of becoming the 4th man to hit 600 home runs, is the new clean up hitter in Cincinnati. The Reds are 3 years removed from their last championship, and have a lineup that includes McCovey, Andy Kosco, and Johnny Callison. A lot of veteran talent there. This team wants that World Series back. Angels superstar Sadaharu Oh hit his 500th career home run today. He’s the 8th person to reach the milestone, and will be the last for a while. Noone else is really close. Reggie Jackson probably has the best chance to be next, and he’s a long ways off. Oh has hit over 30 homers 11 times. He’s 34, so id guess 600 is a realistic goal for him. ![]() Sadaharu Oh The White Sox will win the AL West again. The other 3 divisions are up for grabs. The Yankees are trying to get back to the postseason, and have a slim lead on the Orioles. The Reds are beginning to pull away from Houston again, but its not over. The Phillies, Mets and Pirates have all taken turns on top of the NL East and are in a dog fight. The final weekend of the season featured a series in NY between the Phillies and the Mets. A sweep by NY would force a 1 game playoff for the NL East. It's the only playoff race left, as all the leaders held on with ease. The Mets won the opener but suffered a late inning collapse in the second game. The Phillies have ended the Mets short reign as NL east champs. No other races ended up being close enough to cause any drama. ![]() ![]() Bert Blyleven wins the AL pitching triple crown!! ![]() |

![]() Harmon Killebrew missed the last few months of the season, but he is healthy, and will be in the lineup for the Phillies. Carl Yastrzemski will not however, and that's a big blow to this team's offense, which wasn't great to begin with. The Yankees rely alot on two players. Ron Blomberg and Catfish Hunter. If those guys don't produce, I can't see the Yankees winning their first World Series in 44 years. |

HELL YEAH YANKEES!
Sandy is... uh... wow. Sadaharu Oh is awesome and I really hope the Angels get into the playoffs for him one day. San Diego is going to have a really nice team in a few years with all these first picks. |

![]() Catfish Hunter and Ron Blomberg were the Yankees best players in game 1. Blomberg knocked in 2 runs, while Hunter pitched 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs. When that happens, the Yankees win. Yankees win game one, 5-2. Pete Broberg took the mound and continued his fantastic playoff. The Yankees starter dominated Philly. 7 innings, 6 hits, 6 k’s, and a single run. Bernie Carbo went 2/2, with 2 walks, and 2 runs scored. That alone is enough to push the Yanks to a game 2 win. 3-1. Broberg improved his postseason record to 3-0. In front of their hometown faithful, NY jumps out to a 5 run lead early. Phillies starter Woodie Fryman walked or hit 7 batters in the first 3 innings, and the Yankees eased those 5 runs across. Phillies hitters couldn’t muster much offense, and this 5-2 NY win has put them on the brink of elimination. Catfish Hunter did it again. 7 innings, 1 run allowed. He leaves the game with a 3-1 lead, and the World title at his fingertips. The Phillies entered desperation mode a long time ago, and it final paid off in the eighth. …. ![]() The Phillies have their biggest inning of the season, but this game is not over. The Yankees come to bat, trailing by 1 in the bottom of the ninth….. ![]() Joe Foy sends this game to extra innings with a dramatic game tying home run!! This game goes on a while. There is no scoring in the 10th, or the 11th…..He pick it up in the bottom of the 14th. Yankees forgotten pitcher and former first overall pick, Steve Carlton has just pitched a scoreless inning…. ![]() BERNIE CARBO with a walkoff World Series winner!! The Yankees have won the 1974 World Series!!! ![]() ![]() |

As always, splendid job!
It's very interesting to note that of the 4 playoff teams, the Yankees had the worst record. Also, in that universe, Yankees fans had to wait 44 years for another World Series title! That's quite a long drought if you ask me. Lastly, I hope that my Tigers will return back to competition. With all the high picks their getting, it should be inevitable. |

1974-75 Offseason News and Notes
The first pick in this years MLB draft is Mario Soto, a starting pitcher who amazingly, I'm not familiar with. Now I wasn't around in the 70's, but you would think I would know this guy. He just escapes me. Anyway, Soto looks talented, but that control really scares me off. If he develops though, he'll be a good one with his stuff. Andre Dawson to Milwaukee at 5 is a huge pick. I think he can change Brewers fortunes. ![]() ![]() Another year without a Hall of Fame induction. We had a nominee though, which hasn't happened in a while. Joe Nuxhall, who pitched 20 years, with a win\loss record of 206-134 was a very good player. Hall of Fame is out of his reach though. Very good and Great are different. So we wait another year in the longest Hall of Fame drouth we have ever seen. I know there's gotta be some people happy to see this deal made. ![]() First off, it's nice to see a player like Thurman Munson in the uniform he belongs in. Munson is a Yankee legend, and his tragic death probably still hits home to people. Second, this is a major addition for a team looking to defend their title. Munson is a fantastic catcher. He's a impact player, and makes any team he plays for better. The Yankee's want another title or 4... ![]() Back in pinstripes ![]() Alternate Steve Garvey came close to replicating real life Steve Garvey's success. ![]() |

Mario Soto, a pitcher who got great when the Cincinnati Reds were lousy in the early 1980's.
