Arizona took a early 6-0 lead in the top of the 1st but the Reds fought back to 7-6 in the bottom of the 3rd when they scored 4. The game calmed down after that but the Diamondbacks held on. The Reds lost despite C Jesus Lopez going 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs including 2 HRs, his 41st and 42nd of the year. With 17 games left, Lopez is 10 HRs shy of his career his 52. 2B Jeff White hit his 9th HR, LF Billy Anderson hit his 42 HR and now has 99 RBIs on the season while SS Domingo Machado hit his 24th HR. Reds SP Hubert Lucas (7-10) continues to struggle, he allowed 6 runs on 6 hits with 2 HRs in just 0.1 innings which included just 14 pitches. Lucas had only got into the 4th inning once in his last 6 starts (16.2 innings, 28 runs)
The Reds are officially eliminated from the NL Central Race. The Cardinals are 2 wins away from clinching the Division.

Reds SP Bart Whinnett didn't get the win, but he was good allowing just 2 hits without giving up a run and struck out 6 over 7 innings. MR Robbie Coleman (6-9) got the win and blown save for the Reds, CL Jorge Martinez collected his 18th save with his perfect 9th. The Reds got PH Jesus Lopez's 43rd HR of the year as well. Reds SP Bart Whinnett allowed 2 hits and struck out 6 over 7 innings in a 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks. The 27 year old Whinnett is 9-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 30 starts for the Reds so far this season. September 17th, 2027 Arizona 8 Cincinnati 7 The Diamondbacks opened with 3 runs in the top of the 1st but the Reds answered with 5 in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 7-3 lead. The Diamondbacks then made it 7-5 for the Reds before scoring 3 in the top of the 9th for the 8-7 win. SP Larry Baker making his 1st since returning from his 2nd major injury of the year allowed 5 runs on 7 hits with 5 strikeouts over 8 innings. CL Jorge Martinez (6-5) took the loss and blown save allowing 3 runs in the 9th. Reds SS Vicente Hernandez had 3 hits while LF Billy Anderson had 4 RBIs on 2 HRs to bring his total to 103 RBIs this year. For Anderson they were his 43rd and 44th HRs of the year and he has reached at least 100 RBIs for the 5th straight season. CL Jorge Martinez allowed 2 hits in the 9th but still got his 19th save. Boston Red Sox CF Javier Villa clobbers HR #500 today in a 7-6 loss to the Rays. The 32 year old Villa is hitting .261 with 34 HRs and 76 RBIs in 131 games for the Red Sox this season. Villa was originally signed as a minor league find to the Pirates in 2014 and started his MLB career in 2016. He became a free agent and signed a 4 year deal with the Red Sox on December 19th, 2024. September 20th, 2027 Cincinnati 4 Chicago 3 The Reds score 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st to take a 3-0 and won despite being out hit 13 to 6. The Reds SP Hubert Lucas (8-10) had his best start since August 12th (a complete game win) allowing 3 runs on 10 hits with 5 strike outs over 7 innings. CL Jorge Martinez allowed 1 hit in the 9th for his 20th save. The Reds got a HR from CF Steve Garc, his 9th of the year.
The Cardinals are the only MLB team to clinch their division so far this season.
88 wins is the Max for the Reds to be able to achieve, Colorado or San Diego would really have to fold and the Reds would have to get extremely hot to win 12 in a row. |

Reds SP Bart Whinnett (10-5) allowed 4 runs on 5 hits while giving up 3 HRs and striking out 10 over 7 innings. MR Kent Bell got the final 2 outs for his 1st career save in 12 career appearances. September 22nd, 2027 Cincinnati 8 Kansas City 5 (10) The Reds took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 4th with a 3 run inning but the Royals came back with 3 of their own in the bottom of the 5th to take a 5-3 lead. The Reds tied it with 2 in the 7th and then won it in the 10th. Steve Garc hit a 3-run HR in the 10th for the win and the Royals left the based loaded in the bottom half of the 10th as the Reds escape with the win. Reds SP Larry Baker allowed 5 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts but also gave up 3 HRs over 4.1 innings. CL Jorge Martinez (7-5) got the win despite allowing a hit and 3 walks in his 2 innings of work. C Stan Shelton had 3 hits for the Reds while CF Steve Garc's 3-run HR was his 10th of the year. Kansas City Royals RF Ed Harker goes 2 for 3 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs in a 8-5 loss to the Reds. The 30 year old Harker is hitting .420 with 21 HRs and 71 RBIs in 100 games this season. San Francisco Giants SP Ben Day allowed 5 hits and struck out 8 over 7 innings in a 2-0 win over the Diamondbacks. The 26 year old Day is 18-11 with a 3.42 ERA in 34 starts. September 24th, 2027 The Reds are off today. September 25th, 2027 Cincinnati 7 Colorado 6 The two teams combined for 27 hits in a back and forth affair. The Reds lead 4-0 before the Rockies got on the board, the Rockies then added 4 more in the bottom of the 4th to take a 5-4 lead. The Reds scored in both the 6th and 7th to grab back a 7-6 lead and held on for the win. Reds C Jesus Lopez had 4 hits and 4 RBIs which included his 46th HR, a 2-run shot. Hot hitting CF Steve Garc hit his 11th HR of the year as well. In the last 10 games Garc has 9 hits, 5 HRs and 14 RBIs. Reds SP Manuel Campos allowed 5 runs on 9 hits in just 3.1 innings. The Reds can still achieve 87 wins so they are still not officially eliminated, but its going to be tough to get all 5 teams in front of them to fold like cheap tents. |

Reds SP Hubert Lucas (8-12) allowed 3 runs on 3 hits before the rain ended his day after 5 innings., The Reds got 7 hits including from SS Vicente Hernandez and 1B Albert Gonzalez. October 2nd, 2027 Milwaukee 14 Cincinnati 4 Milwaukee opened with 3 in the top of the 1st and 2nd innings to take a 6-0 lead. With the score 8-4 in the top of the 9th, they scored 6 more. Reds SP Bart Whinnett (10-7) ended his season on a sour note, he allowed 6 runs on 5 hits over just 1.2 innings for the loss. The Reds got a couple of HRs in the game, 1B Roberto Cortez hit his 13th of the year and CF Steve Garc hit his 13th as well. 2B Jeff White collected his 20th SB of the year. October 3rd, 2027 Milwaukee 7 Cincinnati 2 The Reds end their season with a 4th straight loss and fall short of a .500 season. Reds SP Larry Baker (2-4) ended his season, one he would like soon to forget with 6 runs on 10 hits and 7 strikeouts over 6 innings and a loss. The Reds got 3 hits from 2B Domingo Machado and 2 hits from SS Vicente Hernandez. The Regular Season Ends Kansas City Royals RF Ed Harker wins the AL Batting Title with a .415 average with 26 HRs and 81 RBIs in just 110 games. The 30 year old Harker will join a group of select few that have hit over .400 in a season. St Louis Cardinals 2B Armando Marin wins the NL Batting with a .359 batting average. Cincinnati Reds 2027 Final Stats and Musings
The Reds could not settle on a 5 man rotation all season with an injury to Larry Baker that messed up the rotation, Campos struggling after the trade going (3-5, 5.55 ERA in 12 starts) after the deal. Lucas missed all of the 2026 season with an injury and had his 1st career losing season, his highest ERA prior to this season was 4.50. Walsh was expected to crack the rotation, but could not get consistant while only Perez and Whinnett could really be counted on.
The Reds changed closers mid way through the season after Miranda struggled then got injured, Bayley and Miranda were both expected to add more to the pen then they did. Coleman and Johnson were pleasant additions though.
The only problem here was that we couldn't find enough at bats for Shelton. Maybe a position change or use him for trade bait is appropriate.
Never really missed the loss of Andrew Cooper, Gonzalez and Cortez replaced him nicely.
The lowest HR and RBI totals for over 5 years for Anderson (.308, 31 HR and 73 RBIs in 2022). Garc and Quinones should be our future, not sure what can be done with Bautista. Last edited by Big T; 05-18-2014 at 06:40 PM. |

Cincinnati Reds Owner Jim Castellini has sold the club to Chip Holmes. Holmes is described as demanding and controlling in regards to Patience and Fiscal Personality. Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera has been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The 44 year old Cabrera started his MLB career in 2003 with the Florida Marlins. He was traded to the Tigers along with Dontrelle Willis on December 5th, 2007. He signed as a Free Agent with the Giants for the 2020 season and retired in 2024. March 6th, 2028- Cincinnati Reds MR Ray Hicks will miss up to 4 months with a torn rotator cuff. The 24 year old Hicks did not pitch in 2027 due to an injury. He last pitched during the regular season with the Reds in 2026. March 21st, 2028- Cincinnati Reds SS Jeff White will miss up to 3 weeks with a Intercostal strain. The 28 year old White hit .244 with 10 HRs and 54 RBIs in 136 games for the Reds in 2027. March 23rd, 2028- Boston Red Sox SP Jonathan Hurt will miss up to 12 months with a torn labrum. The 33 year old Hurt was 16-12 with a 4.05 ERA in 34 starts for the Twins in 2027. March 30th, 2028- San Francisco Giants SP Ben Day will miss up to 4 months with a bone spur in his elbow. BNN has released its TOP 100 Prospects List today. The Reds have one player in the top 10 and 7 more in the TOP 100. #6- CL Alex Perez, the 22 year old Perez will start the season in AAA. He spent most of 2027 in AAA for the Reds, he was 5-4 with 16 saves, a 5.67 ERA in 40 games in Louisville last season. He is eligible for the Rule 5 draft and will likely be added to the 40 man roster before the end of this season. #12- RF Roberto Gonzalez- the 25 year old will start in AAA this season, He spent all of last season in AAA hitting .296 with 19 HRs and 80 RBIs in 107 games in Louisville. Like Perez, he is eligible for the Rule 5 draft this December and will likely find himself on the 40 man roster before that. #15- CL Etienne Leblond- the 20 year old will start this season in A ball. He spent most of last season in A ball where he was 6-7 with 26 saves, a 5.88 ERA in 57 (A) games. He is eligible for the Rule 5 draft in years. #18 SP Juan Alonzo- the 21 year old will likely start this season in (A) ball. He spent all of last season in (A) ball going 5-6 with a 3.36 ERA in 21 (A) starts. Alonzo is 2 years away from being Rule 5 eligible. #34 MR Andres Lopez- the 24 year old Lopez will start in (AA) Carolina this season.
