The Yankees (91-67) closed the door on the Toronto Blue Jays division-title hopes with a 2-1 win over Baltimore.
New York leads the Jays by 4.5 games with four games left in the regular season.
The Yankees will likely be the No. 3 sed in the AL playoffs, as the Los Angeles Angels (102-56) have already sewn up the top spot.
The AL Central champion, Cleveland (95-63), leads the Yankees by four games with four games left in the race for seed No. 2.

For the first time since 2015, the Pittsburgh Pirates are in the postseason after a 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Oct. 6 gave them the National League Central Division title.
The Pirates (86-76) finished just a game ahead of the Cincinnati Reds.
Pittsburgh last made the playoffs in 2015 as a wild card, the third of three straight wild-card appearances.
The Pirates last division title came back in 1992.
Pittsburgh will its fellow wild card, the Atlanta Braves, in the first round of the playoffs.

The Braves earned their spot with a win, defeating Miami 9-4 in their 162nd game.

Texas will face the AL East champion New York Yankees in the opening round of the playoffs.
