MY LIFE IN 1958
EC's Hopin' Life is Great in '58 Joining the Air Force was not easy... it was peace time, but there was a Cold War with Russia going on quite vigorously... I went to the Air Force first to volunteer my services... took their first basic qualifying exam, but I didn't impress them very much... EC didn't do too well... it was too much mechanics for me to do well... EC is no handy man... my strengths are in vocabulary, spelling, arithmetic, history, language, general education... not mechanics... yep, EC didn't do well. So I went to the Navy and passed their test... they wanted me... but EC likes planes better than ships... so I went back to the Air Force and told them the Navy wanted me... when I did well on the Navy test, this spurred the Air Force's interest in me... I told them I was much smarter than their preliminary test indicated... I needed a more general test that didn't concentrate on hammers, nails, tools, gears and mechanics... so they sent me to Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama for a full battery of tests... I spent the weekend taking nothing but tests... when I got back, the recruiters were anxious to sign me up and send me off into the wild, blue yonder... EC had aced most of the tests at Maxwell Air Force Base... my test scores were out of sight, scoring almost perfect scores on 3 of their 5 tests... I was only average on the Electronics and Flight tests. The Air Force said I would have to wait until September to go into training... I told them the Navy would take me right away... this gave me a little leverage... yep, it did. So EC will be leaving soon for basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas... this is June... I will be leaving around the first of July. I know... don't it make all of you buckaroos and little darlin's want to join me in singing a chorus or two of "off we go into the wild, blue yonder"? Come on now... at least a few of you can hum a few bars with me... this is exciting... yep, EC's gonna be a high-flying airman. Last edited by Eugene Church; 07-16-2022 at 06:30 PM. |

With jg2977's great help and advice, I have greatly increased the enjoyment of the 3D animation by creating custom views.
They are far superior to my first attempts at creating custom camera views. For you who play out the games, I very highly recommend custom views. |

ALL TEAMS ABOVE .500 WIN THIS WEEKEND... ALL WINNERS WIN... ALL LOSERS LOSE It was a weird weekend in the South Island Secondary League... there were no upsets... all the winners won and all the losers lost... unbeaten New Yerby came back and won a game they should have lost... the first place Yankees just barely beat the Littleville Supermen 5-4 in 11 innings... runner-up Delacroix destroyed the Guedon Gators 12-1... third place Gull Lake smacked the Pelham Oaks 6-1... fourth place Cherrywood rallied to top the Braxton Bruins 6-4... both fifth place Billings and Columbia survived the weekend... the Rams tamed the Grin Hill Smileys 6-2 and the Black Cats won by the same score 6-2 over the Parkland Perfectos. Somehow the Yankees keep winning. Just two victories away from running the table. Probably just need one win to guarantee promotion.

Delacroix and Gull Lake also have a chance to promote... one of them will miss out... probably Gull Lake. But New Yerby does have a tough schedule: on the road against Delacroix (8-1) this Sunday and at Cherrywood (6-3) the last Sunday of the season. Delacroix finishes up with two home games... New Yerby (9-0) this Sunday and the Cubs will close the season against Billings (5-4). Gull Lake (7-2) has a shot at promotion... they play Grin Hill (2-7) at home Sunday and close out against Littleville (3-6) on the road the final Sunday of the season. |

MY LIFE IN 1958
EC's Hopin' It's Great in '58 Graduation Day is here at Murphy High School and EC got his diploma along with 922 students... overall I was a C plus student... maybe 2.75 on a 4.00 system... not real good, but not bad... a little above average... sciences and advanced mathematics brought my grade down... I was A's and B' in most subjects... really good in history, social studies and English... it a shame I didn't apply myself more to the math and the sciences. This is for the Murphy High Class of 1958... the Rover Boys and Graduation Day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OscdOi_cvsc Well, in my real world I will soon be on a new adventure... actually, it really wasn't an adventure... it was just something for me to do... some sort of a job... I have no plans for my life... no vision... no plans... listen to me, young folks, that is not a good way to live your life... just drifting through life won't get you there... heaven only knows what is in store for EC in the United States Air Force... I'll be leaving in about a month. However, one think is great in '58... the music... rockabilly, do-wop and rhythm and blues... here a sample of some of the special songs I liked. Born to Late by the Poni-Tails and For You Love by Ed Townsend made me pine for Margie Pollard and Weesie Regan... those were a couple of my secret loves... they were my dream girls. Hope all you cats and frats, teen queens, teeny boppers, buckaroos and little darlin's enjoy both of them... I always thought of my dream girls listening to these two ballads... it's a shame... sadly, the Poni-Tails and Ed Townsend were just "one-hit wonders". Poni-Tails https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3mfPDSbl-4 Ed Townsend... this is really great love song... beautiful voice... great background singers and arrangement... the background voices are heavenly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9y1gfYcpXA4 Last edited by Eugene Church; 07-19-2022 at 10:09 PM. |

Yep, EC really enjoyed relistening to those 1958 favorites of mine.
The Rover Boys, Poni-Tails and Ed Townsend brought back some good memories of the day and time... some sad ones, too. Last edited by Eugene Church; 07-19-2022 at 10:12 PM. |

Monday, June 9, 1958 GREAT RACE IN SUPREME LEAGUE GOING INTO THE FINAL WEEKEND OF THE SEASON What a lovable mess it is... 6 teams have a chance to win the pennant in the South Island Supreme League heading into the last weekend of play... Delta and Meraux, the top two clubs, are the odds-on favorites... they have a game edge over 4 other hopefuls, third place Bar Harbor, Kofa, St. Dominic and Anderson. Here's is how it all transpired this past Sunday... the Delta Stars knocked off the Meraux Tigers 5-1... St. Dominic skimmed past Kofa 5-3... Anderson clubbed St. Luke's Place 9-1... the St. Pete Pelicans surprised the Bar Harbor Acadians 6-2... Mystic dropped Zebulon 6-3... and Moon Valley upset the Jackson Jackalopes 1-0. |
