Matty Fitzgerald

Matty Fitzgerald played most of the 1906 season with the Utica Pent-Ups, hitting .212 in 193 at-bats. On September 15 of that year, he made his big league debut. In his first stint in the majors, he hit .667, collecting four hits in six at-bats and driving in two runs. In the big leagues in 1907, he had two hits in 5 at-bats for a .133 batting average before it was back to the minors. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Same facegen, just touched up to align with the picture.

Con Starkel

Conrad "Con" Starkel pitched one game for the Washington Senators in 1906. He was 25 at the time. As a major league pitcher, he gave up six runs in three innings. As a major league hitter, he had one plate appearance, drawing a walk and scoring a run. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Same facegen, just colorized and tweaked.

Boss Schmidt

“It’s a thankless job, this catching business,” sighed Charley Schmidt in 1908. The stocky Tiger was not one of the era’s more dexterous backstops, but instead demonstrated an often overlooked physical bravery in helping his team to three memorable American League pennants. Yet, more so than many of his Detroit teammates, Schmidt is better remembered for the three unfortunate World Series which followed, when the best of his game abandoned him.

Schmidt was a good-natured presence on the team, “extremely popular” with his mates. He had been relatively tolerant of his teammate, Ty Cobb, reportedly once lending him a bat after others had wrecked the outfielder’s. Still, Schmidt could quarrel or, if angered sufficiently, brawl, and Schmidt and Cobb squared off on March 29, 1907. The catcher was allegedly offended by comments Cobb made to a Georgia newspaper about his abilities to out-fight any of his teammates. If so, Schmidt convincingly settled the matter by pummeling Cobb, leaving the Georgian a bloody mess. The old catcher became, by the 1920s, part of baseball lore. Most of the tales were likely true. Pounding spikes into cement with his bare hands. Bear wrestling. Daring teammates to budge him off the floor, or to punch him in the stomach. A right hand that had been fractured 30 times in his career. - SABR bio

No before facegen as I had updated this one already.

Sadly, there won't be Schmidt v Cobb II in my Bucs save unless Boss is traded, or his Reds meet the Tigers in the WS.

He's having a decent rookie year, hitting 272 with 24 ribbies in a pretty ordinary Cincy outfit.

Lou Manske

Lou Manske started his professional baseball career in 1904. From 1905 to 1906, he was a starter for Des Moines of the Western League. He went 20–16 in 1905, and Des Moines won the pennant. The following season, he was 23–10 when he was purchased by the Pittsburgh Pirates in August. He appeared in two major league games for them.

In 1907, Manske was sent down to the American Association. His career ended in 1910.

Art Brouthers

Not much to say about Art Brouthers. He was a third baseman for one season (1906) with the Philadelphia Athletics with a .208/.240/.257 slash line. No additional footnotes for this footnote, luckymann. Maybe he'll distinguish himself in your sim...

Redid the facegen, smoothing away the newspaper noise...

No relation to Big Dan, which is a surprise. There are, however, a plethora of Delahantys running about...

Just as IRL, I see little chance of Art featuring much in the Bucs save.

Irv Higginbotham

Irv Higginbotham, after playing in the Bigs with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1906 and 1908-1909, spent part of the 1909 season with the Chicago Cubs before heading northwest and playing with the Portland Beavers in 1913, 1914 and 1915. While with the Beavers, he threw a no-hit, no-run game while striking out 13. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Paul Masterson

Left-hander Paul Masterson's diligent work in the Class D Northern League got him promoted up to the Ottawa-Ogdensburg Senators of the class C Canadian-American League in 1941 and he came up with a 19-9 record that tied him for the league lead, helping his team to the league championship and also chalked up a 2.93 ERA before being called up by the parent Philadelphia Phillies, making his big league debut on September 15, 1940. He appeared in two late season games for the Phillies and pitched five innings with no decisions. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Same facegen but fixed the eyes, made less green and then overlaid a texture pack to smooth it out.

Charlie Armbruster

After catcher Charlie Armbruster broke into the major leagues, he hit .198 for Boston his first year and was invited back. He hit .144 his second year, and was invited back. He hit .100 his third year and was sold to Chicago, where he hit .000 and ended his major-league career. - SABR bio

I couldn't find the picture that the previous person used to make the facegen that I had in my pack. Maybe there's a better, angrier picture out there. The best picture I found was a studio one that I used to redo him.

Harry Armbruster

'Harry Armbruster, of Syracuse . . . hit the bull sign twice in one game. Each time he was presented with a check for $50." - Sporting Life, June 25, 1910, which also showed him with the highest batting average on the Syracuse team

Harry Armbruster played one year in the majors, serving as the most frequently utilized backup player on Connie Mack's 1906 Philadelphia Athletics. Harry had an impressive .353 on-base percentage, one of the highest on a team which had an overall .308 OBP. He was the fourth outfielder, getting into 40 games in center field and 34 in right. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Redid the facegen.

The AI in the Bucs save is much sweeter on Harry than Charlie.

Forrest Crawford

There is little out there on 1906 Cardinals shortstop Forrest Crawford. He passed away at age 26

I would have liked to have reused the facegen but adjustments needed to be made to the source image to allow face coloring that was remotely close, so I redid it.

Lou Nordyke

Lou Nordyke played first base/outfield for the Browns in 1906 as part of a long professional career that stretched to 1914. He spent most of his minor league seasons on the west coast, and from 1908 to 1914 he was in the Pacific Northwest. He also managed a couple of years in Vancouver and Victoria. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Same facegen, just added color

Well, in a real heartbreaker, my Bucs blew a 4 game lead and the Cubs ended up pipping us on the final day in '07 and then went on to win the WS in 5 over the A's for their second Championship.

So, after a couple days' recuperation from the pain, I'm now prepping up the Class of '08. I think you're about through with '07, yeah bud?

Ernie Groth

Ernie Groth, nicknamed "Dango", appeared in three games with the 1904 Cubs at age 19. He later went 9-8 for Columbus in 1906. There was talk that he might quit pro ball due to the death of his sister that year.

"Ernie Groth, the Wisconsin boy, has again declined to sign his Columbus contract which has been sent him regularly since 1906. Groth will stick to business at Port Washington." - Sporting Life, February 26, 1910

Redid the facegen based on the bRef picture. He presents a little older than I'd like but I could nit-pick my work all night, so I'll just let it be.

I seem to always be a few faces shy by the time you move to the next year, luckymann, but I try and go back to them for sake of completion regardless. I think I have three left from the last class but a half dozen of other odds and ends you requested.

Chet Spencer

Chet Spencer manned the outfield for the Boston Beaneaters in 1906. He struggled in his eight games and 27 PA, putting up a 6 OPS+.

Same facegen, just colorized and tweaked.

You're doing superbly. I'll shoot these through over the next 24, just get to them after the other stuff is done or as you see fit. Been on a bit of a tear with the Bucs save of late but that should slow down a bit as that new save we discussed is nearly ready to go and will steal some time away from the Pirates each day.

Ben Caffyn

Ben Caffyn played a bit more than a month in the outfield for the 1906 Cleveland Naps. He had 103 at-bats, hitting .194 (20-for-103) with four doubles, while playing 30 games, mostly in left field. His obituary says he was a veteran of the Spanish American War and World War I. After the majors, he played and managed some semi-pro ball in his home town of Peoria. He was a fireman after his baseball days. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Same facegen but colorized and tweaked.
