RF Cherokee Finley (32-4.9) had 2 hits, stole 2 bases and had 2 RBIs.

Liberty League Games:
Cincinnati (8) at New York (3): Charlie Branham (24-4.2) (22-9) over George Taylor (29-3.9) (13-17). Branham allowed 8 hits, walked 3 and struck out 6. Taylor lost his 9th game in a row. Manager Ed Lanham (49-5.3) had quietly gone back to using Jack Roberts (32-6.1) as his #1 man in the box. CF Fleet Wilcox (27-4.9) had 4 hits with a triple, stole a base, scored a run and had 3 RBIs. Since the beginning of July, he is hitting .406 with 8 home runs and 21 extra-base hits in 25 games. He has scored 25 runs and knocked in 29 during the span. For New York, CF James McClellan (26-4.7) hit a triple and his 4th home run, scored twice and had 2 RBIs.

Boston (1) at Troy (2) in 10 innings: Harry Lamb (29-6.4) (19-10) over Charlie Morlock (35-6.7) (20-12). Lamb allowed 9 hits, no walks and struck out 4. Rookie LF Ed Wakefield (24-5.8) won the game with a 2-out single. For the Red Caps, RF Charlie Warner (30-9.2) had 4 hits and stole 2 bases, but no runs or RBIs. There were 36 hits and 13 errors in this game; don't know how they kept from scoring more runs. 2B John Kron (32-3.6) had 4 hits and scored a run. For the Maroons, 2B Sam Thompson (36-4.5) had 4 hits, a walk and 2 RBIs.

Pittsburgh Stogies (40-28 .588 9.5 GB in 3rd place)

CF Abe Cupp (23-4.7) is ready to play today. He is 1 for 13 against Parsons, but I do not want to sit him another day if he is ready.

Tom Lee, Omaha (26-6.0) (R 20-4 1.93 6.3-1.3-6.1 H-BB-K/9) vs. Frank Parsons, Pitts. (30-5.8) (R 9-15 2.53 9.2-2.5-4.7)

Grand National Association Games:
Brooklyn (10) at Philadelphia (11): Jim Postema (35-5.5) (3-2) over Dick Cole (30-5.9) (16-16). CF Ben Smith (25-6.7) had 3 hits with a triple, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. SS Doc Coe (27-4.7) hit a double and a triple, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. For the Gladiators, RF John Peterson (25-7.0) had 3 hits with 2 triples and scored 3 runs.

Scranton (4) at Louisville (9): Ed Sharp (29-5.5) (14-16) over Sam Doty (35-6.4) (13-16). Sharp allowed 11 hits, walked 2 and struck out 7. At bat, he had a hit, a walk, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. Doty went 7 innings, allowed 6 hits, walked 2 and did not strike anyone out. As a batter, he hit a triple and scored a run. LF Joe Olson (27-6.8) had 2 hits with a double, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. For the Miners, 2B Joe O'Neill (36-7.6) had 3 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI.

Chicago (3) at Milwaukee (4): Alex Howison (34-6.6) (11-15) over John Ritch (29-7.8) (19-21). Howison, in his first game since relinquishing the manager duties, allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and 6 strike outs. Ritch allowed 9 hits, 2 walks and 2 strike outs. Milwaukee scored twice in the bottom of the 9th to win on an error and back-to-back 1-out doubles by RF Deke Baker (33-3.9) and 2B Levi Torrence (32-5.3).

Liberty League Games:

Cincinnati (15) at New York (5): Charlie Branham (24-4.2) (23-9) over George Taylor (29-3.9) (13-18). Branham allowed 9 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3. As a batter, he had 4 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. Taylor lost his 10th in a row. When he won his 13th game, he had won his 9th in 11 games. 2B Pete Hinde (28-7.9) had 3 hits with a double, stole a base and scored 3 runs. CF Fleet Wilcox (27-4.9) had 3 hits with a double and a triple, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs. Hotter than hot, he is.

Boston (4) at Troy (2): Joe Peters (28-4.9) (18-7) over Miah Turner (23-5.3) (8-8). Peters allowed 6 hits, no walks and struck out 8. He won his 11th decision in a row. Turner allowed 9 hits, 5 walks and struck out 5. SS Mike Stables (28-7.1) had 2 hits with a triple, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Kornfield allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5. 1B Charlie Robinson (34-3.6), in his major league debut, had 2 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. For the Spiders, 1B Lou Knight (35-5.2) had 3 hits with his 7th home run.

Washington (7) at St. Louis (5) in 12 innings: Lou Townley (22-3.4) (5.6) in relief of John Callaham (35-5.5) over Will Taylor (37-7.9) (5-13). Callaham went 10 innings, allowed 10 hits, 3 walks and struck out 2. Townley went 2 innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 2. Why manager/RF Kid Orr isn't pitching Townley more, I don't understand. Orr had 3 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. 2B Tom Anglin (31-5.6) had 3 hits with a double and scored 2 runs, but had to leave the game with a torn hamstrung and will likely miss at least 6 weeks. C Kid Hutchinson (26-3.7), in his major league debut, had 3 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. He threw out 2 of the 4 who attempted to steal a base, as well.

Philadelphia Quakers (45-25 .643 6 GB in 2nd place in the Grand National Association) at
Omaha Mutuals (51-19 .729 1st place)

Another 2 game set with the Quakers and manager Chuck Payne (42-5.9). Last week we split 2 games in Philly. We are now 5-3 against them on the year. They are 2nd in runs scored with 6.3 per game (Omaha is down to 8th with 5.1). They are 6th in runs allowed with 5.2 per game (Omaha is still #1 with 3.4).

In Allen's last start, he shut us out and beat Sprague, 1 to 0.

John Allen, Phil. (26-6.4) (R 20-4 1.93 6.3-1.3-6.1 H-BB-K/9) vs. Lee Sprague, Omaha (24-3.5) (R 25-11 1.75 6.8-0.8-6.1)

C Charlie LeFevre (30-5.0) had 3 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs and threw out both runners who tried to steal. That gives him 7 hits over the last 2 games. Before that he had a stretch where he went 6 for 43. 1B Charlie Toner (23-8.7) hit a triple, scored a run and had an RBI. He has a 12 game hitting streak going. His major league career is 15 games long and he has hits in 14 of them. Only 1 hit in each of the last 6, though. SS Warren Hogan (30-7.2), who has been in a serious slump, had 2 hits with a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. Before today he was 2 for his last 23. His batting average is about 100 points lower than last season.

DeVaux allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4. RF Bill Hammack (31-5.0), the double machine, doubled home the only run of the game in the 8th. In the past 2 seasons, he has 27 doubles in 266 at bats. The 3 seasons before that, not so much: he had 6 doubles in 327 at bats.

Scranton (3) at Kansas City (7): Hosea Alexander (36-4.8) (11-6) over George Lambert (33-9.0) (3-8). Alexander allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3. He is 9-2 over his last 11 decisions. Should I make Tom Lee (26-6.0) the #1 pitcher?

Liberty League Games:

Cincinnati (2) at Cleveland (6): Tom Marshman (33-4.7) (14-18) over John Stevens (27-8.2) (16-17). Marshman allowed 6 hits, walked 2 and struck out 6. As a batter, he had 2 hits and scored a run. He was pinch-hit for in the top of the 9th, because the Haymakers were losing 3 to 2 (Although Lamb has the highest batting average on the team and already had 2 hits in the game). P George Taylor (29-3.9) of the New York Gothams has died. All the authorities are saying was that it was an accident. But since they are not forthcoming with details and Taylor has lost 10 games in a row after starting the season 13-8, speculation abounds that he committed suicide. Two deaths of active players in less than a week! They say misfortune always comes in three's, so who will be next?

Grand National Association Games:
Milwaukee (2) at Providence (3): Wes Wright (30-5.7) (2-0) over Tom Washam (31-6.1) (16-24). Wright allowed 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3. Omaha Mutuals (52-20 .722 1st place in the Grand National Association) at
Brooklyn Gladiators (31-40 .437 20.5 GB in 9th place)

We begin a 2 -game set and 2-game road trip with manager Sam Cook (42-4.4) and his Gladiators. We are 1-1 against them so far, having split 2 games in Omaha 2 weeks ago. They are 10th in runs scored with 4.9 per game (Omaha is still #8 with 5.1). They are tied for 4th in runs allowed with 5.0 per game (Omaha is still #1 with 3.5). Their Washington Park seems to be pretty fair to hitters and pitchers, unless you hit one deep to right field, where the fence is not too far.

Sprague is 6-7 in his last 13 starts with an ERA of 3.20. I want him to work out of his troubles, but if our lead gets in jeopardy, he will drop to #2.

We are going to try something new and let 3B Ben Dennis (28-5.4) play shortstop for the first time. Hogan just is not cutting it.
3B Bill Healy (25-6.0) will get his first major league start today.

On paper, this should be an easy win, but I have a feeling it won't turn out that way.

Lee Sprague, Omaha (24-3.5) (R 26-12 1.90 7.0-0.9-5.9 H-BB-K/9) vs. Nate Kendall, Bkln. (35-5.4) (R 9-18 3.40 10.4-1.1-2.1)

Lost - 6 to 5 in 11 innings

Sprague has now lost 4 of his last 5 games. He did not pitch horribly, but the game ended with him making a throwing error.

He allowed 10 hits, no walks and struck out 12.

We had 9 hits and made 5 errors. Brooklyn made 6.

Both pitchers stunk for 5 innings and then both got tough for 5 innings and then Sprague threw the ball away.

2B Felix Hill (25-4.2) hit a triple, stole a base and scored a run. RF Hank Roberts (25-3.0) had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. LF Dave Cunningham (29-5.4) had 2 hits, stole a base and had an RBI. C Charlie Lefevre (30-5.0) had is 4th straight multi-hit game with a pair of singles, scored a run and had 2 RBIs.

For the Gladiators, RF John Peterson (25-7.0) hit a double and a triple, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Grand National Association Games:

Philadelphia (8) at Baltimore (2): John Allen (26-6.4) (18-9) over Levi Giddens (32-4.8) (1-3). Allen allowed 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5. With his bat, he hit a triple and had an RBI. His triple was the only extra-base hit by either team. SS Jumbo Lynn (24-3.8), in his 2nd game back from stint on the DL, had 2 hits and scored 3 runs.

Pittsburgh (12) at Minneapolis (3): Tom Lilly (26-5.7) (22-8) over Charlie Moss (43-6.3) (7-20). Lilly allowed 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 7. SS Jim Ware (30-5.6) had 2 hits, one of the a home run with the bases loaded. He scored twice. CF Lyman Horton (27-5.9) had 5 hits with 2 doubles, stole a base, scored 2 runs and knocked in 2.

Louisville (8) at Kansas City (2): Jake D'Addario (34-5.5) (8-18) over Joe Osborne (26-3.0) (6-18). D'Addario allowed 9 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. RF Willie Rudd (33-5.2) had 3 hits with a double, was hit by a pitch, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. 2B John Meredith (29-6.0) had 3 hits, scored 3 runs and had an RBI.

Liberty League Games:
Detroit (11) at New York (5): William McLeod (25-5.6) (7-11) over Jack Roberts (32-6.1) (21-20). 2B Jack Warren (32-7.2) had 2 hits with a triple, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. LF Jesse Spencer (34-5.0) had 2 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI.

St. Louis (5) at Troy (13): Harry Lamb (29-6.4) (21-10) over Freddy Wood (28-6.3) (12-17). Lamb's pitching wasn't anything special, but he had 2 hits with a triple, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. CF Bert Gellis (23-5.5) had 3 hits with a triple, scored a run and had 3 RBIs. SS Sam Cowan (28-5.1) had 3 hits with his 6th home run and drew a walk.

Minneapolis Millers (34-39 .466 18.5 GB in 7th place in the Grand National Association) at
Omaha Mutuals (53-21 .716 1st place)

Back in Omaha for a 2 game set with manager Tony Green (41-6.3) and his Millers. We are 4-2 against them so far, beating them 2 of 3 here in the middle of July the last time we met. I hear Count Childs had to flee his native Transylvania after a peasant revolt and since he's arrived in New York his neighbors' children have gone missing repeatedly. Is there anything to that?

The New Yorkians should pitch him more often. As long as he's on the mound, he's at least accounted for...

Minneapolis Millers (35-39 .473 17.5 GB tied for 6th place in the Grand National Association) at
Omaha Mutuals (53-22 .707 1st place)

After a week of searching, owner Frank Pope (60-5.4) hired Sammy Farrell (39-6.9) as the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers. Farrell had been fired from the same post with the Chicago Colts a few weeks ago.

Steve Taylor, Minn. (33-3.3) (L 7-3 3.55 9.8-2.3-3.6 H-BB-K/9) vs. Lee Sprague, Omaha (24-3.5) (R 26-13 1.88 7.0-0.9-6.1)

Lost - 7 to 5

In the first inning, we got 5 hits and they made 3 errors and we scored 5 times. And never scored again.

Sprague allowed 11 hits, no walks and struck out 6. He had 2 hits at bat.

We got 8 hits (3 in the final 8 innings) and made 5 errors. Minneapolis made 4.

CF Abe Cupp (23-4.7) had hit a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. LF Dave Cunningham (29-5.4) had 2 hits and scored a run.

For the Millers, CF Ed Moody (28-6.9) had 3 hits with a double and a triple, scored 3 runs and had an RBI.

We have scored exactly 5 runs in 5 straight games, yet lost 4 of them. Sprague has lost 3 in a row and 5 of his last 6. The only game we have won in the last 5 was the one Tom Lee (26-6.0) started. Our lead is down to 3 games, so Sprague is out as the #1 hurler. I wish I knew what the heck was wrong with him.

Grand National Association Games:
Baltimore (6) at Philadelphia (7) in 13 innings: John Allen (26-6.4) (19-9) in relief of Bill McClean (38-6.0) over Levi Giddens (32-4.8) (1-5) in relief of Sammy O'Quinn (22-5.9). Allen pitched 3 scoreless innings, allowed 3 hits and struck out 1. McClean, in his 10 innings, allowed 12 hits, no walks and struck out 6. He went 3 for 4 as a hitter with a double, but no runs or RBIs. Philadelphia needed 24 hits to score 7 runs. LF Clarence Reis (33-5.0) had 4 hits with a double and a triple, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. CF Ben Smith (25-6.7) had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. He ended the game with a 2-out single.

Louisville (1) at Scranton (3): Sam Doty (35-6.4) (14-16) over Wiley Steel (22-5.6) (3-9). Doty allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 3. Steel allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and did not strike out any one. SS Fred Vay (33-6.0) had 2 hits with a double and an RBI. 1B Jiggs Farmer (24-4.6) hit a 2-run triple.

Providence (10) at Kansas City (9): Wes Wright (30-5.7) (3-0) over Joe Osborne (26-3.0) (6-19). RF John Walker (27-6.6) had 3 hits with a double and scored a run. LF Mickey Sweeney (29-4.7) had 3 hits with a triple, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs. For the Cowboys, LF Lou Baggett (22-4.2) had 3 hits, stole 3 bases, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Milwaukee (13) at Chicago (6): Oscar Mason (24-4.6) (1-0) in his major league debut over John Ritch (29-7.8) (20-23). Mason allowed 10 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7. Manager Sammy Farrell made his debut as the Brewers' boss a success against the team that fired him a few weeks ago. SS Herman Bonjour (31-5.6) had 3 hits with a triple and a home run, scored 2 runs and had 4 RBIs. LF John Tomlinson (28-2.8) had 4 hits with a double, stole a base, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. For the Colts, C George Sandefur (28-5.8) had 3 hits with his league-leading 9th home run and 2 RBIs.

Baltimore Orioles (32-42 .432 20 GB in 9th place in the Grand National Association) at
Omaha Mutuals (53-23 .697 1st place)

We begin a 2-game set with manager John Burton (45-3.6) and his Orioles today. They have lost 4 in a row and are the only team as cold as Omaha right now. We are 6-2 against them on the season and we swept a 2-game set against them in Baltimore 3 weeks ago, but both games went to extra-innings. We won't have to face Pop Yurkovich (32-5.6) this time, though, as he is still nursing a bum shoulder. They are tied for 7th in runs scored with 5.0 per game (Omaha is up to #6 with 5.1). They are 8th in runs allowed with 5.6 per game (Omaha is still #1 with 3.6, but it is rising).

We are going to try Bill Healy (25-6.0) at short today.

Sal DeVaux, Balt. (29-3.5) (R 11-15 3.45 10.1-1.9-5.1 H-BB-K/9) vs. Tom Lee, Omaha (26-6.0) (R 22-4 1.86 6.4-1.3-6.2)

Won - 5 to 4

With the game tied at 4, 2B Felix Hill (25-4.2) led off the bottom of the 9th with a single. He stole 2nd and went to 3rd when the catcher made a bad throw. C Cannonball Blair (27-46) had thrown out 4 of 5 base-stealers before whiffing on Hill. CF Stub Orlando (29-6.1) then hit an infield single to end the game.

We scored exactly 5 runs again, for the 6th straight game, but this time Tom Lee was in the pitcher's box and he won his 15th start in a row! He is 21-1 in his last 22 starts.

Lee allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 3. He beaned a batter. At bat he hit yet another double and drew a walk. It was his 7th double of the season.

We had 13 hits and each team made 5 errors.

2B Felix Hill had 3 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. CF Stub Orlando had 2 hits with a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. LF Dave Cunningham (29-5.4) hit a triple, drew a walk and scored a run. C Charlie LeFevre (30-5.0) had 2 hits. 1B Charlie Toner (23-8.7) had 3 hits. In 20 games, he is now hitting .352. His defense has left a lot to be desired, but I'm okay with that if he keeps hitting. He is reputed to be better than he has shown. SS Bill Healy (25-6.0) is now 0 for 13 in his big league career, but he did reach on an error today and stole a base. And he played errorless ball at short and will be given an extended trial there.

For the Orioles, 3B Sol Renaud (27-5.7) had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. He is now 9 for 19 (.474) with a home run in his career versus Tom Lee.

Grand National Association Games:
Kansas City (6) at Scranton (2) in 12 innings: Dan Butler (27-4.7) (16-12) over Sam Doty (35-6.4) (14-17). Butler, in 12 innings, allowed 4 hits, walked 3 and struck out 3. Doty allowed 10 hits (4 in the 12th), no walks and struck out 6. 1B Jim Lagana (28-6.6) had 2 hits with a 2-run double in the 12th to drive in the go-ahead run and scored. 3B Erve More (25-4.5) had 3 hits with a double and a triple, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI.

Minneapolis (7) at Philadelphia (2): Dan Dittmar (35-8.0) (21-16) over John Allen (26-6.4) (19-10). Dittmar allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4. CF Ed Moody (28-6.9) had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run.

Pittsburgh (7) at Brooklyn (8): Nate Kendall (35-5.4) (11-18) over Frank Parsons (30-5.8) (10-18). LF Tom Campbell (26-3.6) had 2 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. C Billy Boblett (26-5.4) had 3 hits with 2 doubles, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. For the Stogies, LF Jim Graves (27-5.7) had 3 hits with 2 triples, scored 2 runs and had an RBI.

Providence (0) at Chicago (7): John Ritch (29-7.8) (21-23) over Wes Wright (30-5.7) (3-1). Ritch allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 7. CF Tommy Casale (24-3.7) had 3 hits with a triple and a home run, scored 2 run and had 2 RBIs. C George Sandefur (28-5.8) had 2 hits with his 10th home run and scored twice. All 10 of his home runs have been hit in Lake Front Park. For Providence, LF Bill Chilcote (27-7.7) had 3 hits with a double, but no runs or RBIs.

The Liberty League is taking the weekend off for some reason.

Baltimore Orioles (32-43 .427 21 GB in 9th place in the Grand National Association) at
Omaha Mutuals (54-23 .701 1st place)

Sal DeVaux, Balt. (29-3.5) (R 11-16 3.41 10.2-2.0-4.9 H-BB-K/9) vs. Tom Lee, Omaha (26-6.0) (R 23-4 1.79 6.3-1.3-6.1)

Won - 6 to 5

Lee allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. And beaned a batter. And won his 16th start in a row!

DeVaux allowed 5 hits, 5 walks and struck out 5. He had 2 hits at bat with a mammoth home run that had to go about 440 feet to center field with the wind blowing in. He scored twice.

We made 1 error; Baltimore made 6.

C Charlie LeFevre (30-5.0) had 2 hits with a double, a walk, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. And threw out the only player that tried to steal.

For Baltimore, 2B Billy Moore (29-7.0) hit a home run and had 3 RBIs.

Lee had only allowed 1 home run before this game and only 2 opposing players had hit the ball out of Mutuals Park. Today 2 did it.

Grand National Association Games:
Kansas City (8) at Scranton (0): Hosea Alexander (36-4.8) (15-6) over Sam Paul (29-5.4) (11-25). Alexander allowed 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3. At bat, he had 2 hits and scored a run. He won his 5th in a row. 3B Erve More (25-4.5) hit a double and a triple, scored 2 runs and had an RBI.

Minneapolis (0) at Philadelphia (3): Bill McClean (38-6.0) (23-13) over Dan Dittmar (35-8.0) (21-17). McClean allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 11. I think it is safe to say that there are no lingering effects from his pulled muscle. Dittmar allowed 3 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3.

Omaha Mutuals (55-23 .705 1st place in the Grand National Association) at
Minneapolis Millers (37-43 .463 19 GB in 8th place)

We begin a 2 game set with manager Tony Green (41-6.3) and his Millers. We are 4-4 against them so far and they swept 2 games from us in Omaha a week ago. They are 10th in runs scored with 4.8 per game (Omaha is still #6 with 5.1). They are 9th in runs allowed with 5.7 per game (Omaha is still #1 with 3.7 and it is still rising). The Millers' Association Park is tough to hit them out of, but is otherwise a pretty fair place to hit.

Tom Lee, Omaha (26-6.0) (R 24-4 1.90 6.4-1.3-6.0 H-BB-K/9) vs. Dan Dittmar, Minn. (35-8.0) (L 21-18 2.49 8.5-1.3-3.8)

Won - 2 to 1

We did not get our first hit until the 7th inning.

Lee allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 10. And won his 17th start in a row!

Dittmar allowed 2 hits, no walks and struck out 8. He had the best pitched 9 innings against us that anyone ever has. He retired the side in the 2nd on 4 pitches. He retired the 1st 13 batters of the game before we finally reached on an error. We scored on a passed ball and had our first run before our first hit.

In the top of the 7th, RF Hank Roberts (25-3.0) led off with a double and then CF Abe Cupp (23-4.7) singled him home. Dittmar then struck out the side.

Minneapolis scored their run in the first inning on 2 hits and an error.

We made 4 errors; they made 3.

SS Bill Healy (25-6.0) is now 0 for 20 to start his career, but his defense has been excellent in the 3 games he has played so far at short, so we will give him more chances to get that first hit.

Grand National Association Games:
Philadelphia (6) at Baltimore (9): George Skinner (28-7.8) (1-0) in his first major league start over Bill McClean (38-6.0) (23-14). Skinner allowed 8 hits, walked 7 and struck out 4. He tied the record for walks allowed in a GNA game. 4 of those walks were of SS Jumbo Lynn (24-3.8), which sets a new MLB record for walks by a batter in a game. At bat, he had a hit and an RBI. 2B Billy Moore (29-7.0) had 3 hits with a double and his 4th home run and 3 RBIs. For Philly, 1B Pat Ross (27-5.4) did not have a hit or a walk, but had 3 RBIs.

Liberty League Games:
Detroit (3) at Troy (8): Miah Turner (23-5.3) (10-9) over Hank Anderson (31-7.7) (12-8). Turner allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 9. Anderson lost his 3rd in a row. Rookie 3B Adonis Warren (35-5.1) had 3 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. RF John Hagadorn (34-6.3) hit a double, a triple and a home run, missing a cycle by a single (he's the 3rd player to do that recently, if memory serves - which it often does not anymore), scored 2 runs and had 4 RBIs.

Down in Richmond, SS Ed Page (28-7.4) messed up his shoulder and is out the rest of the year, so any thoughts I had of bringing him back are moot. And I was thinking along those line recently....

Omaha Mutuals (56-23 .709 1st place in the Grand National Association) at

Won - 7 to 4 in 11 innings

We should have won sooner, but we had 5 runners thrown out at the plate.

Sprague allowed 9 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. And he beaned a batter. And he ended his losing streak!

Not a great game by Sprague, but better than he had been doing. We turned 3 double-plays to help him out.

Grand National Association Games:

Scranton (10) at Milwaukee (6): Sam Paul (29-5.4) (12-25) over Tom Washam (31-6.1) (16-29). Paul allowed 9 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. Kansas City (1) at Chicago (2): John Ritch (30-7.8) (22-23) over Hosea Alexander (36-4.8) (16-7). Ritch allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. At bat, he hit a triple and drew a walk. Alexander allowed 9 hits, 2 walks and struck out 6. Chicago scored on a passed ball with 2-outs in the bottom of the 9th to win. RF Bill Sears (35-4.0) had 2 hits and scored the winning run.

Liberty League Games:

New York (3) at Boston (4) in 11 innings: Charlie Morlock (35-6.7) (24-13) over Count Childs (28-3.1) (4-4). Morlock allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 4. At bat, he had 2 RBIs on the day and singled home the winning run in the 11th. Childs allowed 8 hits, 7 walks and struck out 4. LF Dan Abrams (26-5.1) had 2 hits, a walk and scored a run.
