1966 WORLD SERIES PREVIEW
LOUISVILLE COLONELS (87-75) - It took them 36 years, but finally the Louisville Colonels are in the World Series. Boasting the 2nd best team batting average in the majors, these guys will score a lot of runs, but can they keep their opponents down? Charlie Keller (.288, 29 HR, 94 RBI) and Lee Stevens (.293, 35 115 RBI) lead the offense, with the help of 35 year-old Ty Cobb (.311, 50 RBI, 25 SB). The Colonels have three solid starters in Cy Blanton (20-16, 2.90 ERA, 181 K), Doc White (22-9, 2.30 ERA, 345 K), and Bill Sowders (18-16, 2.94 ERA, 181 K), but their bullpen is a bit weak. CINCINNATI REDS (96-66) - The Reds, on the other hand, rely on their pitching, ranked #1 in the majors. Nick Altrock (26-12, 2.30 ERA, 157 K) and Matt Kilroy (25-12, 2.47 ERA, 353 K) are both among the top pitchers in the league. At the plate, Cincy only has a .256 team batting average, but they do have some dominant bats....notably Art Shamsky (.264, 52 HR, 116 RBI) and Shawn green (.309, 26 HR, 92 RBI). They also have Dan Plesac (0.86 ERA, 39 Saves), one of the most dominant closers in recent memory. PREDICTION - Cincinnati's pitching is very hard to ignore. If they only get 3 runs on the board, they have a great chance to win. Reds in 5. |

1966 WORLD SERIES RESULTS
Game 1 Louisville 0 - Cincinnati 3 Matt kilroy allows only 5 hits and strikes out 10 in a complete game shutout of the Colonels. Shawn green and Brian Daubach each go 2 for 4 with a HR in the win. Game 2 Louisville 6 - Cincinnati 2 Tony Cuccinello singlehandedly defeats the Reds with a double, a HR, and 5 RBI. Doc White strikes out an amazing 15 Reds' batters. Game 3 Cincinnati 3 - Louisville 1 Nick Altrock comes into Louisville and makes the Colonels beg for mercy. Tony Cuccinello is the only one who seems to have his number with a 3 for 4 performance, but even that is not enough. Game 4 Cincinnati 2 - Louisville 1 Matt Kilroy gets his second dominant win of the Series, bringing the Reds one step closer to their 6th World Championship. Game 5 Cincinnati 10 - Louisville 4 The Reds bang out 17 hits, making it easy for Ed Conley to put the Colonels down for the count. 1966 CHAMPIONS - CINCINNATI REDS 6TH CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES MVP: Matt Kilroy, 2-0, 0.53 ERA, 21 K |
