Took three days off to go and see the new Texas stadium, Globe Life Field... My wife and I are now up-to-date on seeing all of the current ball parks... it has taken us about 15 years to see all 38 ballparks.

Ballpark Review: Not a beautiful ballpark in looks, just functional... not charming and quaint with special features like Baltimore, St. Louis, Seattle and several other parks... only saw one statue -- catcher Pudge Rodriguez... may have had others... great view of the field for watching a game, but the players are bigger in OOTPB... we were in the fifth level, right behind home plate... enclosed ballpark, thank goodness... temperature was a wonderful 72 degrees... instead of a hot and sunny 95 degrees... stadium was well-designed and fan-friendly... no long lines to get in... easier assess to concessions... lines were short, too... luckily it did not cost and arm-and-a-leg... tickets were just $7 each... special price... hot dogs just $1 for a small, but tasty hot dog... the bun was even toasted and warm... meat was warm... parking was outrageously expensive... the last time we went to see a game at the Ballpark in Arlington in 2003, we had to pay $10 to park and then had to walk a mile to the stadium... I swore I would never go back to see a Ranger game again... but my wife overruled me -- she wanted to go and see the new park and keep our record intact... we decided not to park in the $10 or $15 lots... and paid $25 to park within a block of the stadium... it was also easy to get out of the stadium even though there were about 35,000 fans in attendance... traffic was not bad at all when we left the parking lot... traffic moved smoothly.

All in all, it was a good trip... while returning home, we stopped in Ville Platte, Louisiana... I got to visit Floyd's Record Shop... owned by Floyd Soileau... he had several record labels in the late 50s and 60s that had several huge worldwide hits... Sweet Dreams by Tommy McClain, This Could Go On Forever by Rod Bernard and Breaking Up is Hard to Do by Jivin' Gene... all the songs are known as "Swamp Pop", which is great dance music because of its old rock and roll beat... Swamp Pop is very popular in South Louisiana and in England, Germany and Western Europe... Floyd Soileau is still vibrant at age 82... he just happened to be at the record store and I got to talk to him in his office for about an hour... he was very gracious and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with him about the early days of rock-and-roll music... his labels were Jin and Swallow... Jin is his wife of 62 years... they will soon celebrate their wedding anniversary... Swallow is how you pronounce his name... Soileau in French is pronounced "swallow".... Floyd named the record company after the bird because it would be easier for non-French speakers and DJ's to pronounce.

As a retired DJ, it was really special to talk with a legendary name from the early days of rock-and-roll music and swamp pop legend... if you are ever near Ville Platte and you like old rock-and-roll Swamp Pop and Cajun music, go and visit Floyd's Record Shop.

(Special Thanks to Wikipedia)

Floyd Soileau was born in Faubourg, a small community between Ville Platte and Washington, Louisiana. He grew up speaking Cajun French and did not speak English until attending school at the age of 6 years.[1] In his junior year of high school, he did an afternoon Cajun music show as a part-time job with KVPI radio in Ville Platte. After graduating from Ville Platte High School in 1956, he opened a small record store, Floyd's Record Shop and discovered that although people were still interested in them, Cajun French records were no longer being produced. With the financial help of a friend, Ed Manuel (a juke box operator from Mamou, Louisiana), who wanted new French records for his juke boxes, Floyd released his first record on the Big Mamou label by artists Austin Pitre and Milton Molitor. In 1957 Lawrence Walker and Aldus Roger helped Floyd launch his own label, Swallow Records.

Over the past 40 years, Swallow Records has released 265 45rpm single records and 151 albums of Cajun French music, including recordings by Adam Hebert, Belton Richard, Dewey Balfa and the Balfa Brothers, Nathan Abshire, Jambalaya Cajun Band, Paul Daigle & Cajun Gold, D.L. Menard, and many more, plus recordings by the Cajun French story teller, Marion Marcotte. 1958 saw the beginning of Jin Records with artists such as Clint West, Tommy McLain & the Boogie Kings, Lil' Bob & The Lollipops, Warren Storm, Skip Stewart, Rockin' Sidney, Rod Bernard, Johnny Allan and others making significant contributions to what was the, then, controversial swamp pop music. In 1975 he established his Maison de Soul record label, devoted to Creole and Zydeco music, including artists such as Clifton Chenier, Rockin' Dopsie, Keith Frank, Chris Ardoin, Zydeco Force, Jeffery Brousard, and others. He has always encouraged his artists to compose new songs to record, and his Flat Town Music Company now publishes over 2800 songs, a majority of which are Cajun, swamp pop, and zydeco songs.

His Swallow Publications has published two books on the Cajun French language, Cajun Dictionary and Cajun Self-taught, both by Rev. Jules Daigle, and Jeff Hannusch's I Hear You Knockin', the story of early New Orleans rhythm and blues. He operated Swallow Recording Studios in Ville Platte for over 15 years, and sold his last studio in 1975 to Ronnie Kole, who moved the studio to Slidell, Louisiana. That year he opened a vinyl record pressing plant and printing company for LP record jackets and labels, the only such facility in Louisiana. The plant closed in 1994. Eventually, the store would close but the online mail order business still continues.

In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Jinver Ortego.

Rockin' Sidney and "Don't Mess With My Toot Toot"... Floyd Soileau produced this song.

"My Toot Toot" has been covered by many artists including Fats Domino, Rosie Ledet, Jean Knight, Terrance Simien, Doug Kershaw, Denise LaSalle, Jimmy C. Newman, John Fogerty and Jello Biafra. Other versions include Louisiana Zydeco accordionist and singer Fernest Arceneaux, British-Jamaican television personality Rustie Lee, the Swedish dansband Lasse Stefanz and Irish country singer Mike Denver.

Denise LaSalle's version was a big hit in the UK, peaking at #6 in 1985[6] and number 76 in Australia.
Other language covers
A Spanish version by La Sonora Dinamita titled "Mi Cucu" sold over a million copies in Mexico, Central America, and South America.

If you like music, here are the four songs I mentioned that were produced by Floyd Soileau.

Sweet Dreams by Tommy McClain... ranked 15th on Billboard chart in 1966.
Swamp Pop classic.

Don't Mess with My Toot Toot by Rockin' Sidney.
Charted on Billboard Country chart for 18 weeks in 1985... for a brief moment Rockin' Sidney made musical history... it was the first zydeco song to receive major airplay on pop, rock and country radio stations... later in 1985, "My Toot Toot" was certified platinum and won the 1986 Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording... "My Toot Toot" became a national and international million-selling phenomenon.

The Racers guaranteed that they will return to play at Rolling Hills. They are following a similar pattern. Let's go Racers!

Not sure, but I think the Racers always have had homefield advantage, but half the time they lose in the Tycobbian Finals or the Pro Cup Finals.
