Conference Quarterfinal Results
It's official. In one of the most bizarre Conference Quarterfinals ever, the playoffs have been completely turned upside down. All of the #1 and #2 seeds lost in Game 7, and the #7 and #8 seeds are moving on. Florida actually beat Montreal in a series in which every game was won by the away team. So much for home field advantage. The Stanley Cup is anybody's to win this year.
Up next for the San Jose Sharks is the Minnesota Wild. |

1969 Stanley Cup Finals preview
Anaheim Ducks (82-80) vs. New York Rangers (100-63)
The New York Rangers are 4-time Stanley Cup Winners (1910, 1948, 1949, 1968). They are trying to repeat as champions for the first time since the '52-'53 Sabres. The Rangers got here by beating the Devils in six, Bruins in seven, and Panthers in seven. The Anaheim Ducks, barely above .500, are a huge surprise. They are 3-time Stanley Cup Winners (1911, 1913, 1914). As you can see, they have not won in 55 years. Their last trip to the finals was 16 years ago in 1953, when they lost to Buffalo. The Ducks got here by beating the Jets in seven, Coyotes in five, and Sharks in seven. |

1970 Standings
The Sharks were by far the best team in the NHL this year. Let's see if they can come through in the playoffs.
The Detroit Red Wings are in the playoffs for the first time in 24 years. It's hard to believe that their last playoff appearance was in 1946. |
