Markus, if you haven't already set it up so each league and each nation can specify which name files they use, then please consider doing so.

I can't speak for SkyDog, but I think it's good news because it means that OOTP7 won't suffer from the problems and limitations of OOTP6.

What exactly do you mean by leagues in game... I mean, is this all the leagues we create or are we talking about one big super league with several independalty running leagues with in. Does that make sense?

Its a complete rewrite with (I'm guessing) a real database behind it. Most of OOTP6 limitations originate from the fact its built on an unsolid foundation of proprietary flat files that are not scalable, not that fact that it is old legacy code. The old legacy code causes the wierd and hard to find bugs, rarely if ever cause the limitation issues.

The SI database maybe be proprietary or they may be using something that they can compile and distribute with their application, but regardless it certainly seems like its a real database.

Assuming the talents/ratings system remains unchanged, a conversion would be nothing more than mapping the flat file record formats into the new database. Its a grinding and no fun programming effort, but should certainly possible unless they make the conscious decision to throw it out to meet a release date. If time is not a factor it can be done.

I realize I'm talking about of my ass because I have never seen the code, but I am speaking from many many years programming experience and have seen and done many conversions like this.

I've felt for a long time that the game needed a pretty much complete rewrite/overhaul. The news that it may not even be compatible and that he hasn't started working on it is convincing proof that what I was hoping for has happened: that Markus truly started from scratch, going for maximum efficiency and realism rather than always thinking during the development process "Well, I can't do that, because it might hurt the ability to import OOTP(X-1) leagues," as I feel like has been a thought in the past.

The name files have been expanded and merged into two files, first names and last name. Additional to the commoness number, a language ID is attached to the name as well, so you can add all sorts of names and assign a language to it.
When you create a game, then the current name files get imported and used.

Well, you can start as many game worlds as you like... just as you can start/play as many leagues in OOTP 6 as you liked.

Markus, any ideas/thoughts/concepts on whether or not there will be an animated graphic representation of game play?

No, he's going to make the AI worse in all of these areas.

What a strange question.

Ben, the game is rewritten from scratch. I have worked on it for almost 9 months now, and I have yet to copy & paste a single line of OOTP 6 code. The funny thing is that this has made so much better and quicker, to an extent I did not expect at all

Markus, if you do copy & paste any lines of code, please start a thread detailing which ones. It's important to the community.

So any worlds/leagues you create are still going to pull from the same names file? Or is it going to filter the names file based on the nationality of the league?

Well, you seem to have enough on your plate for now. Keep up the good work, and thanks very much for this session. You're the best developer out there for my money.
