Yeah, the Astros finished up hot at home, but I don't think it matters anymore. The Cards hitters are back in the groove, and they can absolutely victimize that ballpark. I expect the Astros to take one, maybe two, but there's no chance in hell they're taking all three. Past Oswalt, Clemens, and Lidge, they don't have anyone that can shut down the Cards line-up. And those three can't pitch 27 innings in three days.

In this case I can look past it.

Astros at home this year: 48-33

Cardinals on the road this year: 52-29

It looks like Houston will be lucky to take one of three in their home park. Even then it would mean a big problem back in St. Louis. I think there is a better chance of a five game or less series now than anything over.

But I'm a hometown fan too!

Didnt Munro just keep the cards in check? and Backe kept them in check also.

Heh, and the result? 10 runs, 6 runs, and a 2-0 lead for the Cards. Gonna have to keep them more in check, eh?

Eternal optimism is what I love about sports fans!

As a life long Tigers fan, that is how I approach ever year for the past two decades.

As a near life long Redbirds fan, it's paying off this year!

I'm aware, but unless Garner is even more of a dolt than he's showed so far in the playoffs, Backe and Munro were lifted early for a reason... they had no more to give without giving up the same gopher balls that the bullpen has. If the Houston starters that aren't named Clemens and Oswalt can't give more than 5-6 innings, they're losing this series. And as good as Clemens is, I don't think he can get into the late innings at this stage of the season, either. His age is showing.

I agree with you, Azamien, about Clemens showing his age but I hope the Cardinals don't get too anxious. They need to stay patient and make sure Roger has to work to get through 6 innings, so they can tee off on the shell shocked Astros bullpen.

bottom line is that Lidge can't pitch 2 innings a night for the next 3 nights. We need to stay patient and keep it close until they go to that bullpen.

The roof is closed at Minute Maid Park because that's the way the Rocket wants it!

Roger's career LCS stats...

11 GS

3-3 3.90ERA

54H and 27 ER in 62 innings...

good but not great. plus he's now 42 and has already thrown over 214 innings this season... his highest total since 2001, and prior to that 1998.

Houston will be tough but I like our chances, if we beat Clemens or Oswalt in one of the next 2 days we're sitting pretty.

I am spouting many curse words at this time. Things looked good after that double play. Can't give up runs with two outs like this.

If we're within 3 runs going into the 7th I like our chances.
