Oh ya, those Colorado/Detroit series back in the late 90's, early 2k's could be pretty nasty. I don't mind a good fight every now and then, but it's at the point now if you throw a good check at a star player, you have to fight. If it's a dirty cheap shot, yes, you should be held accountable, But when it's a perfectly legal check, there's no need to get nasty just because your star player took a hard hit.

It's just like a most things in life now though imo, there's over reaction and endless drama anytime some one's feelings get a little hurt. So sad.

Here's another example of Col/Det 1996 - very cheap and dirty hit by Claude Lemiuex on Kris Draper - https://youtu.be/OkMSSxWPrqE?si=Q4KakTU-16_6r79P

The hit is at the 18 sec mark of the video.

This is the kind of stuff that does NOT belong in sports.

Kraken came back down 2-0 after 2 periods to beat the Blackhawks 3-2.

Glad he picked on the Blues instead of the Canes for a change.

I keep learning. Didn't know goalies aren't allowed to be captains.

I can see their reasoning:

Quote:
No goalies can be NHL captains because of a rule instituted after the 1947–48 season. This "Durnan Rule" was created because it was impractical for a goalie to leave the crease to discuss plays with referees, and opponents complained it gave the team unscheduled timeouts. Even when a team names a goalie as captain, as the Vancouver Canucks did with Roberto Luongo, the goalie cannot wear the "C" on their jersey and on-ice duties are handled by other players.
Goaltenders Who Have Served As NHL Captains

John Ross Roach, Toronto St. Patricks, 1924-25.
George Hainsworth, Montreal Canadiens, 1932-33.
Roy Worters, New York Americans, 1932-33.
Alec Connell, Ottawa Senators, 1932-33.
Charlie Gardiner, Chicago Black Hawks, 1933-34.
Bill Durnan, Montreal Canadiens, 1947-48.

On September 30, 2008, the Vancouver Canucks named Roberto Luongo to be the twelfth captain in club history. As is the case today, the league rules did not allow this, and so Luongo did not perform any on-ice captaincy duties and did not wear the "C" on his sweater (although he did have a "C" painted on his goalie mask). Willie Mitchell and Mattias Ohlund shared the on-ice captain's duties for the Canucks.

Luongo officially stepped down as captain of the Canucks on September 13, 2010, with Henrik Sedin named his successor.

Sounds right. Anything similar in the future should result in a permanent ban. Your tolerance of bad behavior is measured by your willingness to discipline it.

Wow, the players look like ass walking in now that they don't have to wear coats and ties. Kings used to have some serious drip…now they look LIKE drips. Boo, hiss.

When I was younger I used to be against the "authorities" getting involved but this moron deserves to be prosecuted.

I'm pretty sure the police could not get involved with something like this even though it is a horrific act it is still within the aspect of the game it's not like he took out a gun and shot at him. If the Myles Garret helmet attack could not be prosecuted I'm pretty sure this can't since ice hockey is known to be more violent than football, etc.

The arena is not a foreign embassy where the local authorities are unable to enforce their laws.

I'm sure there will be some retribution in the rematch, but most likely the Ref's won't let it get out of hand and will clamp down quickly.

I wish the league would be more consistent when it comes to dealing with that stuff, but they aren't.
Romanov is out 5-6 months after surgery. I don't think this one will simmer down.

Never said he would. I'm contending w/the notion the police can't act because it happened in a game. It has happened before. Todd Bertuzzi.

Point taken. I'm not sure if the lawsuit was a good thing in my opinion. It seems like a more heat of the moment accident than any malicious attempt to injure in that incident. To be fair I have only really been seriously following hockey since the Kraken started playing.

Understood.

This was another incident I forgot about. McSoreley's attack on Brashear.

And then there was the Chara hit on Pacioretty where he went face first into the glass support.

https://youtu.be/jimZ1tSdPY0?si=fSh1z-aythvpuAL-

Some fans decided to report it to the police. Nothing came of it in that regard, but they investigated as they're obligated to.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming

Nice to see the Habs get a win last night and snap the 5 game losing streak. Not going to get too excited though, our next 3 games are on the road against Utah, Vegas, and the seemingly unbeatable Av's.

But as they say, you don't win the cup in November, so have to remain somewhat positive
