These early season small samples are crazy. Armando Alvarez with 7 HR through the 1st 10G. Arenado hit a 3-Run HR and a Grand Slam over the 1st 2 games,

It's interesting look at the leaderboards in this format. Early on it's an assortment, then as the season progresses, players emerge to dominance ... Freddie Freeman looks to be doing that in the East.





In the West, Yordan and Acuna are rising to the top.

After panicking over the slow start by Mookie Betts, he seems to have righted the ship and be moving forward.




Ending on a 4 game win streak keeps the Shires above .500

Alvarez had 7 HR in the first 10 G, and has hit just 2 HR in the last 20 G, but still continues to perform above expectations.

Arenado continues to take advantage of high contact with runners on to drive in runs, and Anthony and Carlson have been pleasant surprises in the OF. I've been looking for the right combination between SS and corner outfielders.

One of the key aspects I focus on is the bullpen, namely bullpen W-L and FIP. ERA only means so much when a good portion of the runs you allow are inherited runners, and well, one meltdown can wreck reliever ERA. Right now the BP has been either lights out or lights off, sporting a W-L record of 5-5.

I drafted pretty heavily into a top tier bullpen, with the idea that we'd be playing a lot of close games, so it becomes more significant to stay in games and preserve leads.

Edit: I switched all of the Shires relievers to "middle relief" roles, so that my best relievers will appear in the most important situations more often. Far too often with the game on the line, my best best relievers are waiting to "setup" and "close" a lead that doesn't usually come. I've said before that I drafted heavily in the bullpen, and St Louis needs them to put up very productive innings.

In a 13-3 beatdown, Arenado left 11 runners on base. Not sure I've seen that type of LOB before. iirc, 2 GDP with the bases loaded.

Alvarez, despite slowing down, continues to lead the team along with a surging Albies. St Louis favorites, Arenado and Carlson continue to produce. Concern continues to grow about Mookie Betts's production ... the 7th most productive member of the starting lineup.

Nola continues to be the veteran ace of the young staff. The BP is improving, but the starting staff continues to flail among the bottom 5 in the league.
