I started the mod in 1893 the beginning a the dead ball era according to Bill James. Now I am currently in the preseason of 1914. Babe Ruth has just been drafted by the Boston Red Sox. Joe Kelley has just been inducted into the hall of fame. He joins 12 other members; Cap Anson, Dan Brouthers, Jesse Burkett, Jack Clements, Ed Delahanty, Billy Hamilton, Jimmy Ryan, John Clarkson, Tim Keefe, Kid Nichols, Amos Rusie and Gus Weyhing.

The mod expanded to 20 teams in 1911, with an expansion draft adding 4 NeL clubs (Homested Grays, Birmingham Black Barons, Chicago American Giants and the Kansas City Monarchs) to the 16 MLB teams. In the expansion draft the existing teams could only reserve 12 players.

To date there has been 61 NeL players in the league. Nine have retired; Bud Fowler, Frank Grant, Sol White, Regino Garcia, Rafael Almeida, Pop Andrews, Ashes Jackson, Jose Muoz and Julian Perez. This leaves 52 players active, 19 of them are on the expanded NeL clubs and 33 were reserved by the MLB teams. The creator of the mod has decided there are 212 NeL players who could have made an impact on the big leagues therefore at this point I'm about 30% into the pool.

I have decided to not trade or move the NeL players to the NeL clubs but just leave it progress naturally as if the new clubs were just that new clubs. But like the MLB clubs when the draft comes around I try to place the stars if you will on their respective clubs, ie. Babe Ruth on the Red Sox, Cristobal Torriente on a NeL club in this case the Birmingham Black Barons.

Awards and Accomplishments by NeL players:
Pete Hill was named NL rookie of the year in 1904
Frank Grant lead the american league in home runs three years in a row, 1894-1986
Pete Hill lead the national league in home runs in 1907 and triples in 1910
“Smoky” Joe Williams threw a NO-HITTER against the Senators on 6/16/1911
Hurly McNair lead the league in hits in 1912
Grant Johnson has played in 19 seasons totaling 2713 games for Detroit and New York
Bud Fowler now 55 years old played in the first 7 seasons holding a .310 batting average
Sol White played 12 seasons with a .297 career average, he was a starter for 8 of those years
Carlos Morán, first cuban player is in his 14th season led the league in stolen bases in 1901

djc,

I'm thrilled you were able to correct for the ballpark eras file issue from the OOTP patch overwrite and are back in business. Also appreciate the feedback on how the players are performing!

Can just the database from the Mod be used? I do not typically use historical expansion, transaction, retirement, etc. I enjoy doing Random Debut with a 1984 statistical base and it would be interesting to be able to have the 212 NeL players. I used to individually import NeL from Spritze, but this could be a better option perhaps?

Yes, it can. I'm going to have you manually do it to avoid saving over files that are outside the additional /stats folder required. This manual approach works even if you are on Steam.

Download the zip file:

https://www.mediafire.com/file_premi...Z-001.zip/file

There will be a file called "statsNeLmod" once you unzip it. Unzip it while it is still in your downloads folder. This all you are going to worry about. Everything about it is self-contained and won't affect anything else.

Go to OOTP's Main Start Screen and select Settings. Then, when the pop-up appears, go to the troubleshooting tab. Select the button that takes you to the folders with customizable data. In there is the default folder called "stats". Drag the folder called "/statsNeLmod" from your Downloads and put it next to - not in - but next to the /stats folder. The game will continue default to /stats. We didn't drag any of the parks, the ballparks_era txt file, the uniforms, etc. We left all that stuff in the downloads folder.

It may remember this the next time you go for an individual import. But that's all. The game you are putting these individuals in is still using /stats as normal. You just navigated to a different place to grab these guys.

Now, recall when importing individual players, you select the histroical.database.odb file you want to pull the players from. When at that import screen, navigate up (because you are in /stats as a default) and select /statsNeLmod instead and select the histroical.database.odb therein.

If it's not obvious who the 212 people are, back in that downloads folder is a documents folder with a .pdf guide to the mod and the names are in there. Keep in mind, the game may bring in "robinja02" on his own so keep an eye out for a version of a player that played in the AL/NL and those you want to import. The mod has "robinja99" where he comes in two years earlier with KCM stat lines. Some like this Jackie example are players with real careers. A second Willard Brown though, you'd probably never notice as his AL self was all of 21 games.

Here is a cheat sheet for their import codes (they are custom and don't align with the default game/BBR):

Thanks LansdowneSt. Amazing and important work that you all have done.

I was wondering if I could either 1) point the game to use the "/statsNeLmod" file instead of the "/stats" file to populate the random debut players. or 2) make a copy of the original "/stats" file and then rename "/statsNeLmod" file to "/stats" so that it becomes the default. Then the NeL players would randomly populate the draft pool with the other MLB players and I would not have to worry about having 2 versions of Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, etc.

Is this correct, or am I not considering all of the pitfalls?

Thanks

Yes, you could do that - but a patch will overwrite the contents of a folder called /stats, so beware of that. If you follow the instructions of how to point to the modded stats folder but instead of starting a regular Historical Game, you used the RD wizard and went immediately to the Advanced Mode per the pdf instructions, and so pointed to the stats mod from the outset, that's probably safer in the long run (to avoid patch issues).

If you want to start in a past historical year, you can also decide - do you want our Teams.csv with the extra teams or the real-life team evolution (use the unmodded Teams.csv in whatever file you point to)?

Make sense?

I've never seen that. Looks like the kind of pop-up that comes up if you choose to start a New Tutorial Game from the Main Screen. Maybe search the forums for how to turn it off as it seems quite annoying! I forget when the in-game tutorials were put in but maybe a broad search is best.

Yeah the only way I can get rid of the pop is to crtl-alt-del. I check around
Thanks again for the InteGREATed database. Simming from 1893 now in 1931, here comes Josh Gibson, Ruth is 38 yrs old. I saw the request for the NeL players import codes. Wow that's a project I done before with another sim game tough if your trying to do a historical sim.

I was thinking about what user mugwump1970 asked and maybe I have this wrong. Can you have the game place the MLB players into their historical teams and point to the NeL database to drop the Negro League players in seperately. If so, I really like the expansion draft idea for 1911 can that still be done?

If you have the rookies assigned to their historical teams, the teams we have from 1911 to 1960/1 won't get any rookies. That's the trade-off. BUT there are numerous permutations that you can run. The historical.database.odb that you link to will determine if the NeL players organically enter the universe or not (let's assume for all of this no real MiLB). The Teams.csv will determine if the 1961/2 expansion teams are pulled forward to have a pre-history as NeL teams (that's how we get the LTM statistical balance as all the NeL talent enters).

So, you can run the mod with or without the extra teams by swapping Teams.csv files. But with either Teams.csv file, you can forgo the amateur draft and let the game assign players to their historical teams, but you will need to move the NeL rookies that come in as free agents (if you are using the modded db) to NeL teams of your choosing for them to have enough players. The stat lines we use are just a generic "NEL" and not one of those 4 teams. So, again, as Commish you can take the NEL free agents that come in and just decide which of the 4 teams you want them on.

The 4 teams will in-fill with trades, etc. naturally as time goes on but all that rookie talent the other teams benefit from will not go to them organically. I'd like to assign teams to their stat lines, so they too are tied to a team via the "assign rookies" mode of play but probably won't get time to finalize a version that does that until OOTP26.

Hope that makes sense.

I found one issue if you start prior to 1901. The LS3 players, ie. Honus Wagner goes from LS3 to NYY instead of PIT

Someone mentioned Dr. Doom’s database tool. What is it exactly and does it work with OOTP25?

Well, if you start prior to 1901, everyone is on a different team as the sim unfolds.

As to a team becoming another team as the AL appears, that's a default game issue. Some of the 1901 AL OOTP teams originate from OOTP 19th c. teams in a manner that doesn't reflect real history. Those teams need to morph into someone if you start before 1901 (because the game doesn't have an auto-contraction function at the MLB level).

The in-game relationships can be seen in either out Teams.csv or the games default Teams.csv but looking at columns C and D. C is the current iteration of the team in-game and D is the parent team.

For my part, I'm a three-year guy for recalc. We'll see what Garlon says.

Dr. Doom's tool is here: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=331147

Bottom line, the historical.database.odb is an obscure file format. It is a wrapping of a bunch of different game required .csv files that the core OOTP database generates. Updates to the game go into the database, the database exports these .csvs from it for actual play. So, if you want the game to read players organically - as if the database reflected them a particular way - you need to crack open the .odb file. Change what you need to in various otherwise inaccessible .csvs and then reassemble it. Dr Doom's tool does this and it works for 25. It takes Doom a bit of time after a new version comes out to get it aligned to the latest release, but, yes, it works for 25.

In this way, it believes that our Bullet Rogan comes straight from the database and so our version is treated as an organically created part of the game. We align all the things the game does to generate historical play but get it to use our inserted players too.

Years ago, this was common practice - alternate databases, modding via the csvs, etc. Not many people do it much anymore or contain their edits to the csvs that get placed outside the core .odb file - like the Teams or Master csv files.

thank you

Thanks for the quick response. yeah the .odb file changes seem like a little bit more work than I care to get into.

3-year recalc thanks for that.

And thank you again for the db I am having fun messing with it. I did a quick replay going all the way to 1961 to see things unfolded. I did notice one thing that was cool both Rogan and Dihigo had pretty significant numbers both pitching and hitting and I had clicked no to 2 way players.

Going to slow things down on my next replay try to get NeL players starting in the NeL clubs after 1911.

Had you moved the date of the draft? In OOTP 25, some folks have moved the draft date (and/or the pool reveal date) to an earlier point than the default and that has caused issues of the date being skipped. If that was the case, move the draft to a few days from now and the reveal to, like, the day before the draft, and see if that triggers the game to see it.
