I am having trouble too. I made it through all the steps and part of the wood grain is showing up but it isn't showing up for the header.

BaseballNewsNow and The_Offspring187: Read through these two posts. The game can be finicky about downloading and installing the skin files even if you are running the game as the administrator. If so, you need to install the Classic Skin files manually, then do the modifications, then delete the skin.bin file.

Don't forget to delete the skin.bin file when you are done.

Skin Files Notes

For programming reasons, the game may not be able to install skin files from Add-On Central. If that is the case, open the skin_files zip file and manually extract the skins folder to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 1X\data\skins folder.

Also for programming reasons, OOTP may need to be run as administrator for it to recognize when to rebuild the skin.bin file so as to use image customizations in the skin folder. Right-click the OOTP program icon, choose Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and choose "Run this program as an administrator." Click Apply, then OK.

Images in each of the three skin folders can be edited. The game will not reflect the changes unless the following procedures are followed. End the game before proceeding.

The edited image files should be included in all skin folders. In each folder, locate the skin.bin file and change the extension to .old. This is just in case; the old bin file can be reused merely by changing the file extension back to .bin.

Now restart the game. Whatever skin was selected in preferences will now be rebuilt. The game hesitates for about a minute while starting up in order to rebuild the skin. Basically, it is taking a snapshot of the images in the skin folder and the settings are stored in a new skin.bin file.

The game will then start as normal. Check to see that desired image changes have been put into effect.

Note that the rebuilding of the skin.bin file happened only for the current skin selection. To ensure that the other skins will be ready if and when they are ever selected, go to OOTP Preferences and change the Current Skin to the other selections. The game will hesitate for the same minute or so while it is rebuilding each skin.bin file.

Here is a link to the Classic Skins zip file that I successfully downloaded from Add-Ons Central this time; I kept it just in case of emergencies:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_cQ...ew?usp=sharing

The file is clean but you shouldn't take my word for it. Scan it with your own anti-virus program.
BBN, you clearly don't have the Classic Skin files installed. TO187, you have nothing going on, either. The only mod in that screen that I have done is to replace the cheesy-looking header background with a wood-grain pattern.* The toolbar is in the default Classic Skin. So you, too, probably don't have the Classic Skins installed, or you made a mistake with the modding. Look back through this thread.

*I also took out some overlays that I didn't like in the pre-game lineups screen. Look for instructions on that, earlier in this thread.

I've followed all of the steps, but it just won't load. Whenever I try to switch to the classic skin, it just keeps saying working and it will never load. Suggestions?

I have followed your steps to a T, and it still won't work. Here's pictures:

Have you set the game to "Run this program as an administrator" ?

I have done the install manually and through Add On Central. Still not working. I appreciate what you've done for the community though for real. It just doesn't appear after about 15 attempts that I'm gonna be able to use it lol. It looks beautiful though.

Deja Bru, can you clarify what you mean when you say the edited image files need to be in all skin folders? I think this is what's tripping me up. Thanks!

Sorry, bud, but I was hoping somebody would have an answer more than what I have shown and documented already in this thread. Obviously it's possible - not to rub it in but feast your eyes on this dandy (both graphical view and player himself, given his growing collection of bling)! But if you have not missed a step - go back through this thread and review everything carefully - perhaps there is something about your Windows or Mac system that is preventing it from happening.

Just to rule out obvious problems:
- you are showing the contents of OOTP21\data\skins\ootp classic\style_sets\upper_area correct?
- you have deleted the skin.bin file found in OOTP21\data\skins\ootp classic\ and then restarted OOTP 21?
- can you check the properties of your top_smid file? is file type png?
- while you are there, any chance that file is marked Read Only? If you see an Unblock option, does checking that box help?

Mine still isn't working either. I've tried all the steps numerous times. I did notice when I right clicked on the new top_smid.png that it told me it was being blocked because it came from another computer. I unblocked it hoping that would do the trick but it still didn't unfortunately.

This was worth a shot too but still didn't make it work.

Just so people know I have a fictional league with all kinds of jerseys and ballpark mods. I'm not dumb when it comes to this game. I've been playing since Season Ticket Baseball in 2001. This is the first thing I've tried to do in the game that I just could not get to work.

I wish they would just update the classic skin with wood grain which they had always used before.

Just to help narrow things down, are you able to make any other successful skin changes? Like have you replaced awards, altered a different part of the screen? Is it just this particular file that is not updating?

I havent tried altering awards or anything else of that sort. This is the first thing I've tried as far as the skins go. I wondered if it might be a problem with my new laptop but I tried it on my old one and it didn't work on it either. I just truly don't get it.

If someone could find it in their heart, could they make a detailed, step by step guide as to how to do this? It would make my (and The Offspring)’s day. Thanks!

I followed the instructions they've already posted. It just doesn't work. I have a feeling there is a setting somewhere either in game or on my computer that is preventing it from working.
