The Breakers are hot this month. Just 5 losses this month, 2 of the compliments of me in our monthly series where I take 2 of 3.
I hate to do it, but Mattingly is now riding the pine. Hard to justify him and Arenado in the lineup until they start doing something, so time to see if Carew and Machado can do the job this year. Decided to finally buy some packs in bulk and bought 12. Have to say that's a little bit more enjoyable after not getting much the first several packs. In the end not too bad though with one diamond (Scherzer) and three gold (Keuchel, Nimmo, Taillon). It's not Bonds, and not sure I'll keep them any, but can't complain about the return. |

Hopefully they can at least fill in until they figure things out. Last year it was JD Martinez that couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag, but he played awesome in the postseason. |

Unlike last season, my team is the definition of consistent.
Someday, my Mike Trout might slug over .400. The best Mike Trout in the league has an OPS that is 285 points higher than mine. |

I think I own the best Trout in the league currently. 1.041 OPS. Almost slugging .600

While I miss the race, I am super glad I got moved away from your division and am leading my division by 6 games.

I moved ARod to 1B this year after hearing he should grade out to 100 defense and spent some PP on a 96 ovr Ripken to slot in at SS. Should help expand my lead.

The Breakers are unlikely to remain hot all season. I suspect that lead will start to shrink in the coming days. And you took yet another series from me! I'm going to need a cushion before we play 7 times in September ;-)

Smart move with ARod to First! I had no idea his defense would play that high there! And it's good to see Ripken in the game (especially in another league). Truly one of the greats.

How you to tinker with your underperformers is what makes the managing part fun in my opinion (move down in lineup/platoon more/replace from reserve roster/sell for PP and replace/move into bullpen/etc). Otherwise you could acquire a team of good players and let it run on auto-pilot week after week with the same results. Variation is built in and forces you to adjust. At least that's my opinion from the short sample size thus far... |

I think I'm more worried about the Dinos catching me than me thinking I can catch you.

You are spot on with the depth my friend. While Sale + Kershaw won 42 games for me last season and finished top 3 in CY Young Voting, they started the first 2 months leading in losses and with a 6+ERA each. I decided each were touched to be in that bottom 1/3 of underperformers and and moved them to the Pen where they took off. When Mo Rivera started blowing saves uncontrollably, I replaced him with a closer who is 66/70 so far after 2 seasons. When his time comes to suck,I will replace him as well. When hitters like Tedd Williams are sucking this year (with a negative WAR), I adapt with a changed lineup that moves him towards the very bottom. Having the depth to handle the 1/3 of underperformers each season is key to staying competitive in the league. Just like the Titans responded with sucking Mattingly to a .330 Carew replacement thus far... |
