You all know I'm 55 because it's in my profile. But I'm immature for my age

I'm old enough to remember:
1) My 1st time going to see a Major League game. Stan Musial climbed the wall at the Polo Grounds in New York to rob Johnny Mize of the NY Giants of extra bases.
2) I remember Willie, Mickey and the Duke.
3) I remember Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World". 4) I remember Ted Williams going off to war for a 2nd time in Korea.
5) I remember Willie's "CATCH" against Vic Wertz in the '54 Series.
6) I remember "Dem Bums" of Brooklyn finally winning the Series in '57. Thank you Johnny Podres.
7) I remember Don Larson's Perfect Game in '56.
8) I remember Lew Burdette beating the hated Yankees three times in '57.
9) I remember the shock on realizing my beloved NY Giants were moving somewhere out west where I was sure the Apaches would get them.
10) I remember Bill Mazeroski's HR to win the '60 Series.
11) And best of all I remember "The Game" before free agency changed the game forever. Back when you could cheer for your favorite player for years as players stayed on the same team for most of their careers. Willie Mays not a Giant? Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford not Yankees? Ted Williams not a Red Sox? Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges and Carl Furillo not Dodgers? Stan Musial not a Card? Warren Spahn, Hank Aaron and Eddie Mathews not Braves. Brooks Robinson not an Oriole? Harmen Killebrew not a Twin? Ralph Kiner not a Pirate? Robin Roberts and Richie Ashburn not Phillies? These names and their teams were one and I can not imagine them playing for anyone else.

Baseball is still a great game and I envy you young fans with all the years you have left to "root, root, root for the home team". But I wouldn't trade my years of great memories for anything.

I'm 61 years young and am really enjoying this great game of OOTP5.

I'm 23, and I wish I could have Kenwyn's memories. All I have of professional ones are Jordan's final shot (you know, the final one against the Jazz), Joe Carter's homer to beat my Phils (I went to Cooperstown, and couldn't bear to see that display), and seeing a lot of solid major leaguers growing up in person with the Harrisburg Senators, as well as getting to play on their field on more than a few occassions.

24, grad student, wish I had the free time I did when I was kid. Oh those days of backyard baseball, before computers. Youth is innocence. Play while you still have time!!!!!

34 years old today.

I'm surprised to see so many teens and twenty-somethings playing a stat-heavy baseball sim like this.

And they say that America's pastime is dead and football reigns supreme.

I played that game in the 60's (I am only 47). I even created my own players, including myself and you should have seen how big my homerun number (1) was, it took up half the dial,LOL!

What other games did you play after that? I moved to Avalon Hill then SI and my last board game was APBA, which I enjoyed the most until computer simulations came out.

Amen Brother, you said it best! I missed the 50's (born in 1956) but I certainly have fond memories of the 60's and 70's especially where Baseball is concerned! I will never ever forget the very first time that I attended a baseball game. It was in 1964 in Shea Stadium to watch the laughable and lovable Mets play the Pirates. I will never forget coming out of the ramp to see the field, to smell the popcorn and freshly cut grass to hear the buzz of the crowd and to watch the players warming up, it was Love at first site (and smell)! A love that has never wavered though it has been deeply hurt by free agency

37.

First memories of major league ball are from 1975 and Fenway Park bleachers. For some time I assumed all teams had fields/parks similar to Fenway...naive 10 year old I guess.

I'm 19 and the Out of the Park series is my first foray into text-based simulation sports. Unless you count the DOS VGA game I got from the Dollar Tree which required the user to enter "THIRD WORD FROM PAGE EIGHT" of the manual to start. Sure would have been nice had they put a manual in the box...

It's funny, how this type of poll always seems to resurface every so often.

26...

been playing text baseball since I was 14

started with Lance Haffner's Full Count

Later moved on to Diamond Mind

and then read a review for OOTP3 while waiting to pick someone up at an airport, hadn't played a text game in a couple of years, and purchased OOTP3 as soon as I could. Then went on to buy 4 and 5 and have been very pleased with them all.

I'm 44, and will be 45 next month. I always wanted to play the
Strat-o-matic games when I was a child, but didn't have the $. So, playing OOTP is my revenge.
