Some quotes from Mark Teixeira about Greg Bird:
Quote:
“I would be very concerned,” Teixeira said. “Unfortunately, when you have one injury, you can kind of brush it aside. Even two. But when things keep popping up, when they become an issue it seems over and over again, you do start worrying.

“We’re not talking about a 35-year-old at the end of his career. You expect those things from older players. This is a guy who’s just started his career, 300 at-bats in the big leagues. So you do worry that maybe either he’s the most unlucky player in baseball or there’s something physically that he’s not able to heal as well as some players.”
Teixeira is in a position to be able to speak his mind without any ramifications and that is what he has done here. It's what everybody is thinking anyway but if you are a member of the Yankees organization, you don't want to say it.

Suggesting there would be any takers for this flightless Bird would be an insult to all the hard work Markus & co. have put into the game's AI. You'd probably have to heavily tweak the AI player evaluation settings in commish mode to pull that one off.

Great debut for Stanton. He's currently on pace to belt 324 hrs.

Hopefully not lost in all the excitement about Stanton's herculean display of power is the fact the Yanks actually beat J.A. Happ. That's almost like one of the basic laws of nature being suddenly overturned.

Yes, I was very Happ(y) about that.

Announcers made a point of commenting about how Stanton is trying to hit more the opposite way to take advantage of the right field dimensions in Yankee Stadium. Yesterday was practice!

Well, let's see how Tanaka does tonight.

Aaron Hicks is another one who can't seemingly get out of his own way. He was placed on the DL this morning. You have to wonder at some point if the Yanks will ever be able to get 500 ABs out of either Bird or Hicks.

At least we'll get a look at Billy McKinney. He had a good spring and was once a first round pick of the A's. He has the potential to make the Chapman trade to the Cubbies in '16 look even more like a good old fashioned Bronx mugging in retrospect than it already does.

As usual, I get my late-breaking sports news right here, nowhere else!

What the heck is wrong with Hicks? He was fine at the end of the game.

Oh yes, the old "right intercostal muscle strain" which must have been aggravated by overreaching at the after-game spread. Ah, that's harsh, I know. But still.

On another note, I was wondering what Sterling was mumbling after Stanton's first home run. Honestly, the man tries too hard. Seriously.

Injury wise it maybe a domino effect, I went over on my ankle last year. Anyway I was told not to put any pressure on it but I'm self employed so had to work, next thing I've got a bad calf, the left ankle and calf are fine but for a couple weeks I had a bad right hip, the physio reckoned it was all linked to not walking right because of the bad ankle.

That's all well and good, sir, but I am not paying you (indirectly) to play first base for the New York Yankees and thereby help to fulfill my hopes and dreams!

Just kidding. I trust you have made a full recovery.

I will have you know that whilst visiting family in Wisconsin as a kid I didn't do too bad, however I was a all or nothing hitter 50% 2Bs and HRs and 50% Ks. Memory serves me right I played 2B for those 3 weeks due to my cricket background; played for the school team, cricket not baseball

No I was wondering if injury prone players are like that were they have an injury that effects another part of the body because of stress, we get a lot of football (soccer) players over here that will have a minor injury on say one leg make a comeback and then out with a minor injury on the other leg.

ps The stats may have been more weighted to Ks but like negro league players stats for English holidaymakers weren't kept

OMG, Judge is in CF today. Please hold my virtual hand and tell me everything will be all right.
Quote:
At 6-foot-7, Judge will tie Walt Bond as the tallest center fielder ever to appear in a big league game. Bond manned the position for the 1960-61 Indians and the '64 Houston Colt .45s.

"I'm sure it will be a sight to see," Gardner said. "Maybe he's the biggest guy on the field, but he's also one of the most athletic guys on the field too. He's fully capable of doing it. If he wasn't, they wouldn't be putting him out there. Hopefully he doesn't get too much action out there, but if he does, I'm sure he'll be fine with it."

Judge has not played a position other than right field since making his big league debut in August 2016, but he was drafted as a center fielder out of Fresno State University and manned center in 11 Minor League games (eight starts), doing so as recently as '16 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Irony of ironies....the Yanks actually need Ellsbury now. In fact, I'll go so far as to assert that the instant Ellsbury comes off the DL he automatically becomes the most valuable player on their roster, if for no other reason than to get Judge out of CF where I fear he'll end up with a career-ending injury if Boone is daft enough to keep playing him there.

Just watching the Rays @ Yankees game and thought I'd share a story with you, in the mid 90s I wrote to every MLB team seeing if I could get some autographs, i thought best not ask for superstars so I asked for my favourite players at the time. Anyway I ended up with Mike Matheny (ball), Rey Ordonez (photo), FP Santangelo (card) besides the autos I got loads of photos, books, etc from various teams, by the way it was 96, well the Yankees sent me some stuff including a yearbook what makes me laugh though Bob Watson replied to my letter with a signed photo of himself but as he was then not in his playing days, always makes me chuckle sadly Bob isn't in good health so wish him all the best just thought I'd share with it having a Yankee spin on it.

Yeah, I don't know how the weather is by you but over here it just snowed yesterday (which is why the game was postponed to today) and they're now playing in a light rain and about 42 degrees F. Oh, and a 4PM game start time. That's bad enough for the players. How good a Yankees fan do you have to be to be sitting in the stands on a day like this?

I had to check on Bob Watson - I thought he might have passed away already but I see he's still around. This: and this: . It's hard to remember now that he was Yankees GM for the 1996 and 1997 seasons. I remember him more as a player. Fun fact: "Watson was credited with scoring the 1,000,000th run in major league history on Sunday, May 4, 1975." (Wikipedia)

I wonder how your memorabilia initiative would be received these days.

Actually wasn't received well back then, still got most of the stuff bar the Matheny ball which I think someone had sticky fingers so I'll have a look, I do know the Red Sox, A's, Twins, Astros, Mariners, Angels, Cubs, Giants sent nothing and the Blue Jays, White Sox, Royals, Tigers, Rangers, Braves, Pirates, Cardinals, Dodgers sent merchandise catalogues the others sent memorabilia the Yankees and Mets by far the best with the Brewers sending the Matheny ball. One that made me laugh was the Braves, they sent a merchandise catalogue but it said on it they didn't send stuff to England, chocolate tea pot sprang to mind

Well, Boone is getting his first test as a manager now, with all of these injuries, an under-performing bullpen, and only Didi Gregorious doing well at the plate.

Two notes:
  • Wow, Gary Sanchez is 2 for 32, .063. That is a monumental slump.
  • The Yankees should cut Ellsbury. Now he has a hip problem in addition to his oblique injury. When he finally does come back, because the Yankees will not cut him and eat his salary for three years, he will play mediocre which in these days will have people saying how great he is doing, then he will injure himself again. Enough.

Wow. More than anybody's injury, this has to be worrisome:
Quote:
Sabathia will be joined on the 10-day DL by third baseman Brandon Drury, who also came out of the 14-inning marathon early because of severe migraines and blurred vision. It's unclear just how long Drury could be out. He'll be seeing a doctor Monday as the Yankees begin addressing an issue that has bugged him for some time.

"Man, it's just blurry," Drury said Saturday. "I can see the ball enough to kind of hit it and kind of catch it, but it's not where it needs to be. It's something, I've just got to figure out what's going on."
He told the club about it yesterday for the first time, saying "it had been plaguing him for years." Forget about the baseball aspect. This could be something serious.
