The 1947 AL East chase was very much like the 1946 run, with a slight change in characters. The Marlins and Dodgers spent two months neck and neck, with the Yankees looking competitive. After that, the Marlins just kept adding distance.

Ford Sourbeer (27-11, 2.87, 142) became a bonafide ace. But every pitcher, no matter his role, looked good on this team. The Marlins exploded offensivly, outscoring the second place Dodgers by nearly 1/2 a run a game (.4 to be exact)

There were big expectations for Brooklyn, but everything the Dodgers could do, the Marlins were just a bit better. Brooklyn's Forster Shorthouse (.374, 53, 138) won the Triple Crown. The Dodgers were overall an excellent offensive team; the Marlins just were at another level.

Ambrosio Zhagui (.329, 27, 91) had another stellar season for another .500 Yankee club. The Yanks pitching was among the wildest in both Major Leagues.

Kyle Herfel (.293, 44, 112) started the season on fire, blasting 7 HR in the first two weeks. Buffalo could only manage a 22-55 record over the last half of the season.

It was an odd close non-race. The Hollywood Stars were able to build a 6 game lead by the end of June. The Seals were able to gain 1 1/2 over July, but no one really expected the 100 loss Seals to rebound into a pennant chase.

It was like a lightening strike: The Stars entered August leading 4 1/2 games. As September dawned, the Stars were under .500 and 4 games back themselves.

The Seals could not maintain the pace in September. The Stars and Seals were tied going into a 3 game set in San Francisco.

The first game turned on defensive miscues. With one out in the 9th, P Luis Miguel Couso (7-8 13, 1.85, 49) misplayed a ground ball. The next batter, CF Kristofer Kozina (.277, 2, 27), tripled. A Dean Elvers (.268, 9, 72) sac fly later, the game moved to extras.

The game quickly turned in the top of the 10th. With men on second and third and two out, Seals SS Jud Jibson (.223, 4, 45) couldn't handle a Spencer Afonin (.247, 1, 14) ground ball. The Stars one run lead became a three run lead as a rattled Edwin Paalman (5-8 5, 2.65, 31) walked three consecutive batters. Mariano Maddera (5-6 10, 1.96, 33) closed the door in the bottom of the 10th putting Hollywood up 1.

Iin Game 2, the Seals took a 2-0 lead on Kozina and Elvers' RBI ground outs. Up and Down lefty Freddie Lillig (6-6, 3.06, 38) rebounded from an 8 walk performance in his previous start to hold Hollywood to 1 run. The Division was tied again.

The final game of the series and season was a tight fought 1-0 win for Hollywood. 23 year old Raymond Streifel (6-8, 3.04, 26), making his second start after sitting out close to a month with arm issues. Streifel averaged 2.97 BB/9, but was able to pitch 4-hit, 0-walk baseball when it mattered most.

Colter Graese (20-16, 3.24, 120) might have been good enough to win most other days. Walks to Brice Hovermale (.266, 17, 69) and Josue Arciniega (.213, 5, 12) loaded the bases in the 2nd. Emile Hinn (.272, 2, 7) hit into a double play, but a run still scored. The Seals had a chance to tie in the 3rd: Jibson and Cornelio Dos Santos (.222, 6, 39) lead off with singles, and Graese bunted them over. Eaton Itson (.243, 1, 37) popped to short and Emilio Andrian (.222, 4, 43) grounded out to end the threat.

The Stars were the only division winner to repeat. Like the year before, they lost the ALCS to the eventual Cartwright-Doubleday Cup winner.

The NL East managed to have one club post a winning record this season. The Nationals were percolating right at .500, a few games ahead of the pack. Over the month of July, Washington pushed the lead to double digits, and never looked back.

For the rest of the division, it was a repeat of 1946. Any of the 5 clubs could have taken the title--the Nats were the team that put it together. A race became a runaway.

This was a legitimate 4-team race for most of the season. The White Sox, who at one point sat 10 GB, took 3 of 4 on the road from the Angels in an end of season series to seal the division.

While the Braves, Cubs and Sox had all spent time in first, Los Angeles found themselves moving between 3rd and 4th. As the other three contenders traded places all summer, the Angels were just consistent.

In the first game, the Angels took an early lead on Meredith Redmayne's (.348, 20, 91) 1st inning 2-run Home Run and three single-two out rally in the 2nd.

Rock Inzano (17-18, 3.61, 78, 187 BB) was effectively wild, the White Sox only scoring due to two walks and an outfield error. The Angels were tied for 1st for the first and last time.

In the second game, Angel pinch hitter Adan Banz (.308, 2, 5) strikes out with the bases loaded as Jessie Dyne (2-6 7, 4.32, 29) somehow preserves the 5-3 Sox win.

Game three featured a 5-run inning by the Sox, punctuated by Dak Attix (.171, 3, 16) 3-run home run. Sox starter Great Klob (5-4, 2.68, 23) allowed only a solo shot to Norwell Borg (.297, 25, 92) in the 5-1 victory. Chicago was up 2 with one to go.
