The main reason for doing this trade was because of the surplus of infielders we had. Joe Wendle is blocked by Wong at second and Castellanos at third and Muncy is blocked at first by Matt Olson. Wendle is too good and cant play enough positions to become our utility infielder, Ladendorf has been called up to take that spot. Singleton is now the everyday first baseman and as Tuiasosopo can backup first, it gives Olson a little more time to develop in the minors. Picking up Keuchel has also really helped the uncertainties I had about the fifth starter, as he slots in at third pushing Frias and Farmer down, and converting VerHagen to the Emergency SP.
We are now pretty much set to gun for the postseason again, and looking at Triple A, we could be getting quite a bit of help soon.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but what a start for Frias. I wasn't sure what I was going to get out of him, but a sub one ERA through the first month of the season, yes please. Farmer has also been a bright spark with a ERA of two.

This is the year I am hoping Castellanos really breaks out, and hits over .300 and drives in over 100. I know this is ambitious but he oozes quality, and already has a 1.4 WAR through the first month.

Well that may have messed up our postseason hopes...

So with Gray down for awhile, I am back to square one with the 5th starter spot and potentially the 4th. I originally called up Kyle Ryan as Keuchel had an ERA above 9 through his first couple of starts, with no signs of improving, although a couple weeks in the bullpen and it is starting to come down so he possibly may get another shot very soon. I have turned to Miguel Castro to have a go, he has performed admirably out of the pen, with a 1.69 ERA. However, he projects more as a bullpen piece so I need to work out a more long term solution. Down in triple A, both VerHagen, who was sent down to make room for Ryan, and Zimmer have done well, however I will go to Zimmer before I go to VerHagen. In double A, Miguel Almonte also has a sub 3 ERA.
Chad Pinder has been called up as Gray was sent to DL, as he was by the far the best performer in Triple A, and Ladendorf hasn't got it going yet, so we could see him moved down next for more pitching help.
In other roster news, I have moved James McCann to Catcher and made Posey DH, as McCann is a better defensive catcher and has been great for us so far, deserves more playing time. Also, with Posey entering his thirties, I want to protect him a little more as Catcher is a gruelling position, so he should be energised to hit better.

We are seriously going to have to pick it up if we have any chance of making the Postseason. The Angels look like they could run away with the division, so either we challenge them for it, or settle for a wildcard. Either way, I need to cement the rotation before the all star break to really make that happen.









I know I know, Jarrod Parker will probably win the Cy Young because OOTP just want to rub it in your face a little bit more, he doesn't even have that high a FIP, which makes it worse...

We are not playing good baseball at the moment and it really isn't helping our playoff hopes. Starting Pitching is still an issue as we haven't cemented our 5th starter, and with Gray injured we need to find another starter as well, which is proving very difficult indeed.

Iglesias has hit at a rate above .300 this month, solid output from the bottom of the order, so we may have to think about moving him up the order.

Farmer has really nailed down wins this month for us, which has been a welcome thing in Oakland.

What a month for the A's. We go 18-10 to secure our best month this season. Help came from across the board, as everybody stepped up to perform this month. Dallas Keuchel had a great month, lowering his ERA by 2. Daniel Fields, who was called up this month, hit .312 atop the lineup, which really sparked this offense as Wong Is still injured.
