Holmes dominated the early rounds. Chuvalo dropped Holmes on the sixth round but Holmes came back to clearly win the fight. Scorecards: 96-93 (x3).

A slugfest that was close for six rounds. Frazier dropped Quarry on the seventh and two times on the ninth round. The referee stopped the fight to protect Quarry. (SC: 78-73 for Frazier).

Even after six rounds but Peralta had more rest and outboxed Witherspoon on the last for rounds.

On a tactical fight Holmes proved to be the best boxer. Scorecards: 96-94 and 97-93 (x2).

Boxing lesson by Witherspoon. Frazier down on the fourth and down and out on the eight. Only the fofth round was clearly for Joe. Great upset. (SC: 68-64, 69-93 and 67-65 for Witherspoon).

Peralta started better and had a little edge after seven. But then Quarry dropped Peralta on thew eight and nine and convincingly won the last round. Scorecards: 96-92 (x3).

Frazier was in control most of the fight but Chuvalo dropped him on the fifth round. Scorecards: 98-92,97-92 and 96-93.

Big win for Holmes that in spite of two of the scorecards said was in control most of the fight. Scorecards: 97-93, 96-94 and 99-91.

Great performance by Larry Holmes in spite of not scoring a single victory inside the distance on this round. Quarry was the surprising second and incredibly Joe Frazier is out of the Super eight finals. Good performance by Peralta.

Muhammad Ali will be the only undefeated fighter on the super 8 finals and the main favourite to win the tournament. Holyfield,Klitschko; Spinks and Byrd had a hard fight for the second place with many close bouts between them. Finally Holyfield earned the place. The defeat that Klitschko suffered against Cooney was one of the keys of this group.

The Super eight finals-Round 1

Evander Holyfield Vs. Ken Norton

Evander and Ken went to war for twelve rounds. Norton started with a big first round but on the following two the fight had close back and forth action. On the fourth round Norton dropped Holyfild with a vicious cross but then Holyfield reacted and won the following two action packed rounds.
On the seventh stanza both fightres exchanged big blows on even terms but on the eighth one Holyfield dropped Norton with a body shot and seemed to turn the fight on his favor. Ninth round was close and Holyfield edged the tenth one. On the eleventh round Holyfield looked tired and Norton dominated it on big form. On the final round both fighters put their last effort but with Norton landing a bit more than Evander. Finally the scorecards were 115-111 (x2) and 113-113 for the winner by majority decision: Ken Norton.

Lennox Lewis Vs Mike Tyson
For the first three rounds of the fight Tyson attacked on his usual way connecting Lewis with big hooks and uppercuts, Lewis connected some good couterpunches with his straight right but Tyson dominated the first three stanzas.
On the fourth round Lewis found his pace and connected Tyson with big crosses from the outside. The fifth round had big and close action with both fighters connecting big blows.The even war continued on the sixth round with Lewis connecting big hooks and Tyson some tremendous uppercuts.
Early on the eighth round Tyson hurt Lewis with a hook followed by a well timed uppercut. Lewis looked really bad after this and Tyson chased him throwing all sort of blows until connecting him with a wild overhand right to the chin that sent Lewis to the canvas for a six count. Lewis got up but Tyson punished him until the referee stopped the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 59-55 and 58-56 for Tyson and 57-57.

Muhammad Ali vs Jerry Quarry
On another outstanding performance Muhammad Ali outboxed and finally stopped Jerry Quarry.
Ali dominated the fight for the start but during the first three rounds Quarry was a game rival. From the fourth round Ali accelerated his pace and the fight turned on a one-sided affaire on "the greatest" favor.
On the eighth round Muhammad dropped Quarry with a lighting combination.
Then Ali continued punishing Quarry on the following round but he slowed his pace on the the tenth stanza.
By the eleventh round Ali again took the total control of the fight and on the final round he dropped Quarry two times and then punished him until the referee stopped the uneven fight with only a few seconds to go. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 109-99, 110-98 and 108-100 all for Ali.

Larry Holmes vs George Foreman
The fight started with an even first round followed by a good second one for Holmes. The third was even again but on the following two rounds Foreman power dictated the rules allowing George to take an early lead on the scorecards.
The seventh round was close but Holmes semeed to do a bit more and from this moment he took the control of the fight.
On the last five rounds of the fight Foreman looked tired and Holmes dominated all of them on a big way outboxing Foreman and using his jab as a key to then connected straight rights and crosses. The scorecards were 117-113, 116-113 and 115-114 for Holmes.

Larry Holmes vs Jerry Quarry

Holmes dominated the first round but on the second Quarry dropped him with a hard combination. Quarry also dominated the following round. The fourth was an even affaire but then Holmes used his jab to outbox Quarry for the following three rounds. On the eight round Quarry launched a big attack and had Holmes near to go to the canvas again. Holmes recovered on the ninth round and on the tenth one Larry connected a big overhand right to Quarry's chin and put him to sleep for the ten count. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 85-84 for holmes, 84-84 and somewhat 87-81 for Quarry.

Evander Holyfield vs Lennox Lewis
Lewis controlled the first two rounds then Holyfield reacted a bit on the third but by the fourth round Lewis regained the control. On the fifth round Lewis gave Holyfield a real beating and finally on the sixth round Lewis dropped Holyfield two times and then punished him until the referee stopped the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 49-46 (x2) and 49-47 for Lewis.

George Foreman vs Mike Tyson
From the start both big punchers went toe to toe but with Foreman clearly dominating the actions on the first two rounds. The third round was more even with a little edge for Tyson. On the fourth round Foreman connected several hard crosses that shook Tyson. On the fifth Foreman reached the inside and connected good uppercuts. Tyson answered the fire but he was clearly outpunched by George. The sixth round was a tremendous war with both fighters landing big shots. Foreman semeed to have an edge on this round too. On the seventh round Tyson connected a hard low blow and the referee disqualified him. At this time the scorecards were 59-55 (x2) and 60-54 for Foreman.

Muhmmad Ali Vs Ken Norton
Norton dominated a big first round against a passive Ali but on the second Muhammad dropped Norton with a hard cross. Muhammad continued dominating on the following round but Norton reacted on the fourth one. On rounds fifth and sixth the action was slow with each fighter winning one of them. The seventh round had again big action with Ali landing more than Norton but Ken reacted again and won the following two rounds in very good fashion. Norton continued dominating the first two minutes of the tenth round but on the last minute Ali came back on big form to win the round. After ten episodes Ali seemed to have a very little edge but it changed dramatically when Norton dominated the eleventh round on big form and also dropped Ali with a barrage of punches on the last one to turn the fight on his favor. The scorecards were 114-111, 113-112 and 115-111 all for the surprising winner Nen Norton. Ali losses his undefeated record on this fight.

Evander Holyfield vs Jerry Quarry
Holyfield dominated the first five rounds of the fight in which Quarry was a very competitive rival on the first three rounds but then Holyfield totally dominated rounds four and five.
On the sixth round Holyfield slowed his pace a bit and Quarry launched a big attack to win the round on good fashion.
On the seventh round Holyfield regained the control of the fight and Quarry ended the round with his left eye almost closed.
The eight round had close action with a little edge for Quarry but early on the ninth round Holyfield dropped Quarry with a hard hook and after he got up Evander went over him and dropped him again with an uppercut. Brave Quarry got up again but Holyfield punished him until the referee stopped the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 78-75, 78-74 and 78-76 for Holyfield.

Lennox Lewis vs George Foreman
It was a changing war of the ring. The fight started with an acion packed first round with Foreman looking for the KO from the start and Lewis comming back on the the last minute of the round.
Lewis dominated the second stanza fighting from the outside and he also dropped George with a quick barrage of punches on the third round.
By the fourth round Foreman started to turn the fight on his favor and on the fifth one he gave Lewis a real beating.
On the sixth round Foreman dropped Lewis with a quick combination and then he punished Lennox until the end of the round.
The seventh round had slow action Foreman was tired and Lewis was still hurt.
On the eighth round the fight changed dramatically again when Lewis dropped Foreman with a body shot. Foreman got up but had no legs and Lewis dropped hiom again with an uppercut and then a third time with a cross to the head for the automatic TKO win. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 67-63 (x2) and 67-64 all for Foreman.

Mike Tyson vs Muhammad Ali
For the first two rounds Ali boxed nicely from the outside outspeeding and frustrating Tyson. On the third round Mike started to find the range with his power blows but Ali still landed more than him.
On the fourth round both fighters landed big with Tyson seeming to have a little edge.On the fifth round Ali gave Mike a boxing lesson. The sixth and seventh rounds had close action with each boxer winning one of them. The eighth round was clearly for Ali again that also dropped Tyson with a big hook on the last seconds of the round. On the ninth round Ali slowed the pace and Tyson won the round convincingly but Muhammad regained the control on the following stanza.
On the last two rounds Tyson looked for a saviour punch and Ali was conservative, Mike edged both rounds but it wasn't enough.
The socrecards were 115-112 (x2) and 115-113 for Ali.

Larry Holmes Vs Ken Norton

Holmes confirmed that now is the big candidate to win the tournament with a two rounds destruction of Ken Norton that came from a big victory against Muhammad Ali.
On the first round Norton connected a pair of big blows against a passive Holmes but on the second one Holmes connected a heavy jab followed by a big uppercut and dropped Norton for the ten count. Norton won the first round on all three scorecards.
