April 2027
I've decided to include a few noteworthy bits of league news, rather than just Padres exclusive news. League news will be denoted by a colored date.
4/7/2027 SS Brendan Rodgers is expected to miss 2 weeks after being hit in the foot by a pitch in today’s game. 4/8/2027 The Angels’ Nolan Kingham tossed a no-no against the A’s today. Kingham struck out 9 and walked 2 in the 5-0 victory. 4/27/2027 A.J. Reed of the Reds hit his 300th homerun in today’s game against St. Louis. Reed went 2-5 with 2 RBI, but his team lost 9-8. 4/29/2027 Toronto’s Brad White has extended his hitting streak to 20 games. White went 3-4, including a grand slam, in today’s 7-6 victory over the Rays. For the season, White is hitting .368. Monthly Review The San Diego Padres got off to a hot start, posting the second best record in the MLB at 16-7. Outside of San Diego the NL West is looking like a relatively weak division, and the Padres have already jumped out to a 5.5 game lead over the second place Dodgers. The pitching staff for San Diego has looked lights out as they lead the NL in practically every statistical category. Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Koto Suzuki (.382 BA, 5 HR, 19 RBI, 18 R), Tigers Top Pitcher – Zhong-Shan Men (4-1, 0.68 ERA, 38 K), A’s Rookie – Toshiharu Honma (.391 BA, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 12 R), A’s NL: Top Batter – Adrian Silva (.323 BA, 8 HR, 23 RBI, 18 R), Reds Top Pitcher – Jose Geraldo (4-0, 1.84 ERA, 17 K), Reds Rookie – Lyle Christensen (.347 BA, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 15 R), Brewers |

May 2027
5/1/2027
Brad White’s hitting streak has come to an end after a 0-4 outing. He managed to reach 21 games before going hitless in Toronto’s 3-6 loss against the Falcons. 5/5/2027 Bryan Hoeing tossed a 3 hit shutout against the Pirates today. The 29 year old righty struck out 9 in a dominant 8-0 win. For the season, Hoeing is 3-2 with a 3.57 ERA. 5/7/2027 The 2027 amateur draft pool has been released! The top 10 players are: 2B Eric Reed – A relatively average hitter all around with slightly above average pop. He’s average defensively, but has a weak arm. He does have plus speed and range however. The biggest knock against Reed is his attitude – many scouts think that he is uncoachable. RHP Antonio Acevedo – There’s some potential there, but he’ll need good coaching to reach it. He’s got great control and movement on his pitches, but the strikeout numbers just aren’t there. He’s got two solid pitches, but he’ll need to greatly improve his changeup if he wants to be a starter in this league. LHP Ted Weatherdon – A very solid pitching prospect. Average control, with very good movement. He’s a sinker baller with two good off-speed pitches. He’s not going to wow anyone with his velocity, but nothing he throws is straight, and hitters will have a hard time squaring him up. 1B Tony Alvarado – A rather typical power hitter. He’s got good pop, but he’ll expand the zone and swing and miss a lot. Defensively, he’s a big liability, despite having good range for a first baseman. Another point of concern – as his nickname would suggest, Tony “Nine Fingers” Alvarado is missing a digit. He swears that it is not an issue, but many scouts have voiced concerns about it being a lingering issue as competition gets more difficult. SS Kenzo Oka – Oka is a slap hitter with great speed. It’ll be shocking if he ever hits double digits in homeruns, but he should fit nicely at the top of a lineup. There’s a lot to like about this kid, and if he can develop his eye just a little more, he should have a nice career. RHP Juan Hernandez – A very good pitching prospect that should go within the first couple of picks. He’s a hard thrower in the 96-98 MPH range with 4 very good pitches. He relies on his cutter as his main pitch, and he doesn’t throw anything straight. Hitters will struggle to make solid contact against him. The biggest concern is his mental makeup. Hernandez is extremely introverted, and there are concerns about whether or not he can handle being in the spotlight. RHP Orlando Munoz – He might be the best pitching prospect in this year’s draft. He has a superb fastball that can hit 99 MPH, and he has two very solid off-speed pitches. He’s a fierce competitor that never gives up on a play. He needs to work on his changeup, but with 2 other very solid off-speed pitches, he should develop into a very solid starter. RHP Jose Cruz – A jack of all trades, but master of none. Cruz is a very solid all around pitcher with a huge 6-pitch repertoire. On the field, he doesn’t do anything wrong, but he doesn’t do anything great either. The only red flag about Cruz is off the field. He’s not the brightest kid around, and has a habit of doing stupid things that get him in trouble. Whoever picks him should be prepared to pair him up with a good mentor. LHP Cale Wooten – Should develop into a starter with a long career. Throws in the mid to high 90s and has a solid 4-pitch repertoire. He may not ever be a truly dominant pitcher, but he’s good enough to put up some decent numbers. 3B Victor Herrera – Could be the best prospect in this year’s draft. Herrera makes solid contact and displays good power. He’s got a decent eye, so he should be able to put up some good numbers if he reaches his potential. He’s a very solid defender at third base and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win a Gold Glove or two. 5/9/2027 Shelby Miller of the Braves logged his 200th win in a 2-1 victory over the Padres. For his career Miller is 200-138 with 2896 K and a 3.49 ERA. 5/30/2027 The Padres received some bad news today concerning RF Bernardo Orosco. Orosco was taken out of today’s game after feeling pain in his elbow following a throw. The report is that he has bone chips in his elbow and will be expected to miss at least 6 weeks. 5/31/2027 The Crusaders’ Ben Marsh extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a 1-4 effort against the Padres. Marsh is hitting .344 with 8 home runs on the season. Monthly Review San Diego’s pace has slowed a bit as they went 16-12 in May. Their overall record now stands at 32-19, which is tied for 2nd best in baseball. The Padres remain in 1st place in the West, but a surging Giants team has slightly closed the gap to 4 games. The pitching staff continues to dominate – ranking in the top 3 in the NL in nearly every category. Offensively, the Padres lead the NL in BA, hits, K, and SB. However, the power numbers simply haven’t been there for the club, as they rank 11th in extra base hits, and 13th in homeruns. Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Juan Hernandez (.333 BA, 8 HR, 26 RBI, 18 R), Blue Jays Top Pitcher – Raul Ramos (6-0, 1.96 ERA, 48 K), Falcons Rookie – Jose Rivera (.277 BA, 5 HR, 12 RBI, 11 R), Orioles NL: Top Batter – Juan Morales (.422 BA, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 21 R), Cubs Top Pitcher – Beau Burrows (5-1, 2.01 ERA, 40 K), Padres Rookie – Manny Matos (.327 BA, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 15 R), Mets |

2027 Draft
San Diego had a plethora of first round picks in this year’s draft. In addition to the last pick of the round, they received the 12th pick from last year’s trade of Brad Sutherland, and they also received 2 supplemental picks for lost free agents.
With the 12th pick in the 2027 draft, the San Diego Padres selected LHP Cale Wooten. The 21 year old out of Ohio was a top 10 prospect in this year’s draft, and the Padres were surprised to see him still on the board when their pick came up. San Diego selected SS Jean-Phillipe “Sky” Gras with the 28th pick. Gras has the makings of a solid leadoff hitter. He makes solid contact, is a tough out, and while he doesn’t have much homerun power, he’s a gap to gap hitter. He’s fast, but not very smart on the base paths. He’ll need some coaching if he wants to be a true threat on the bases. In the supplemental round, San Diego selected RHP Luis Ramirez. The 19 year old could potentially have some electric stuff with great movement, but his control is a bit suspect. He’s a workhorse, but he’ll need to develop a third pitch if he wants to be a starter. At the moment, Ramirez looks like he could be a great option out of the pen. With their last pick of the supplemental round, the Padres picked SS Manny “Biff” Ortega. The 21 year old out of Mexico could develop into a leadoff hitter, but he’ll need to greatly improve his discipline at the plate. He’s a fantastic defender, but his arm strength lets him down at times. He’s got amazing speed, but someone will need to teach him how to steal and run the bases. With work, he could be a good player. |

6/10/2027
The Indianapolis Crusaders’ Ben Marsh saw his hitting streak come to an end today. Marsh went 0-5 in the team’s victory over the Mets. He reached 29 games. 6/13/2027 Bryan Hoeing tossed a complete game shutout against the Cubs today. He surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 4 in the 6-0 victory. Despite showing glimpses of his past form, Hoeing has struggled this season. He currently sits on a 5-4 record with a 4.18 ERA. In other news around the league, 1B James Robbins of the White Sox collected his 2000th hit. For his career, Robbins has a .270 BA with 462 HR, 1410 RBI, and 2000 H. Also today, Atlanta’s Xander Bogaerts hit home run #300. A busy day around the league. 6/17/2027 The injury bug strikes again for San Diego. 2B Chris “Ant” McKinney was taken out of today’s game against the A’s due to pain in his shoulder. The word on the street is that he is suffering from shoulder tendinitis and will miss a minimum of 5 weeks. 6/30/2027 The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced the firing of GM Alfredo Felix and manager Kevin Rogers. The club has fallen on hard times as of late and felt that a change was necessary. Arizona is currently sitting in last place in the NL West, and has finished last in 2 of the previous 3 years. Monthly Review Despite a hot start in April, the Padres continue to slow down. The team played slightly better than .500 ball for the month, going 14-12 in June. The team is still in 1st place in the West, but they are now just 1.5 games ahead of the 2nd place Giants. San Diego’s record for the season stands at 46-31. Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Sancho Berrios (.346 BA, 13 HR, 29 RBI, 26 R), Indians Top Pitcher – Ross Ismail (4-0, 1.70 ERA, 33 K), Orioles Rookie – Jose Rivera (.395 BA, 11 HR, 25 RBI, 17 R), Orioles NL: Top Batter – Ivan Pena (.371 BA, 7 HR, 13 RBI, 23 R), Giants Top Pitcher – Juan Corona (5-1, 1.20 ERA, 41 K), Pirates Rookie – Nelson Bello (.311 BA, 9 HR, 27 RBI, 12 R), Giants |

Seattle’s Cisco Gonzalez has reached 20 games in his current hitting streak. For the season, Gonzalez is hitting .247 with 12 HR. In other news, Adrian Silva of the Cincinnati Reds has suffered a career ending concussion. The 27 year old right fielder collided with the wall in a defensive effort, the result of which brought the stadium to a standstill as he lay motionless on the ground. Silva was removed from the field on a stretcher and taken immediately to the hospital. This is a difficult situation, but while his career may be over, we are thankful that his injuries were not more serious. Silva holds a career line of .285/.327/.460 with 1377 hits and 195 HR. He’ll be 28 in just 12 days. Adrian Silva, we wish you the best. 7/5/2027 Astros third baseman Matt Dominguez slugged his 400th home run today in a 8-4 victory over the Rangers. 7/6/2027 Clint Smith of the Cubs accomplished a rare feat in today’s game. Smith managed to hit for the cycle while going 6-6 against the Marlins. He drove in 7 runs as the Cubs crushed Miami 16-2. 7/9/2027 Today baseball mourns the passing of Detroit Tigers owner Mike Ilitch Jr. His son, Kevin, will assume the now vacant position. We offer our condolences to the Ilitch family. 7/10/2027 Cisco Gonzalez’s hitting streak has come to an end at 24 games. Gonzalez only had one at-bat in today’s game against the Red Sox and failed to do anything with it. Another streak bites the dust. 7/12/2027 The All-Star rosters have been announced! Representing the Padres will be: SP Beau Burrows (11-4, 1.70 ERA) MR Raul Barosio (10-1, 2.03 ERA) C Jose Rodriguez (.280/.360/.467, 11 HR, 36 RBI) LF Time Elmore (.282/.320/.439, 12 HR, 41 RBI) Former Padre Adrian Martinez (.301/.355/.476, 13 HR, 54 RBI) was also picked as an All-Star. He will represent Miami. Monthly Review San Diego’s struggles continue to grow. The team produced their first losing month of the season, going 12-14. The Padres are clinging onto first place, but the gap is now just half a game. San Diego fans have become accustomed to the team running away with the division, so this recent slide has many wondering if the window for this team is closing. With the trade deadline looming, all eyes fall on GM Syrio Forel. There’s been no indication that San Diego is prepared to make any moves, but Forel has been hard to predict over his career. Will the Padres make a move? Or does Forel believe that this group of guys can get the job done? Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Ted Rodriguez (.393 BA, 8 HR, 22 RBI, 30 R), Tigers Top Pitcher – Matthew McGarry (4-0, 0.81 ERA, 33 K), Angels Rookie – Chris Elliott (.278 BA, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 8 R), Twins NL: Top Batter – Juan Morales (.386 BA, 7 HR, 26 RBI, 17 R), Cubs Top Pitcher – Alfredo Marrero (5-0, 0.52 ERA, 28 K), Phillies Rookie – Nelson Bello (.279 BA, 5 HR, 21 RBI, 10 R), Giants |

2027 Trading Deadline
GM Syrio Forel has never been one to shy away from making moves. It was his willingness to shake up the roster upon his arrival that eventually led San Diego to their first championship. As he so famously declared, “Give me four years. Four. Years. And I will deliver you a team to be proud up.” Through his wheeling and dealing, Forel kept his word; and in that fourth year, the Padres won their first ever championship.
But that gunslinger is the Forel of old. He’s gotten the team that he’s wanted, and he’s become satisfied with just making moves to keep the majority of this group together. He’s added to the group, but it’s relatively the same bunch of guys. With the team struggling, does Forel have what it takes to turn this group back into a championship team? Is that old gunslinger dusting off his boots and coming face to face with fate at high noon? The deadline looms just hours away…What’s going to happen? Trade #1 In a shocking turn of events, the Padres have traded star pitcher Eric “Scandal” Confer. The 30 year old starter is well known throughout the baseball world – the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 draft, the 2023 Pitcher of the Year, and a finalist for POY in 2024 and 2025. Confer is a solid pitcher, but he has struggled this season (3-8, 4.26 ERA). The Padres are still a middle of the pack team in terms of budget, so they expect more out of a player with a $13,750,000 price tag. Confer, reliever Masamichi Okamoto, and the Padres’ 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 13th round draft picks are headed to Seattle. In return, the Padres will receive 24 year old SP Nacho “Doberman” Castillo (7-5, 3.13 ERA, 4.6 WAR). Castillo is a former 1st round draft pick from the 2024 draft. He’s got great stuff with good movement, and average control. He throws in the 96-98 MPH range, and has two excellent pitches in his curve and change. The rest of his arsenal consists of an above average sinker, and an ok slider. The kid is a workhorse and should be able to give San Diego’s bullpen plenty of rest during his starts. Trade #2 In their second trade, the Padres sent 1B Elroy Lachance, CF Juan Quintanilla, and minor league RF Joey Walsh to the Angels in exchange for their 1st round draft pick. Lachance signed with the Padres as an undrafted free agent, but quickly moved up the ranks and established himself as the team’s everyday first baseman. Joey Walsh entered the season listed as the #36 prospect in the ML. The 24 year old has steadily improved since being selected in the 21st round of the 2023 draft, but he didn’t quite seem to fit into San Diego’s plans. Contract Offers In addition to these trades, the Padres have also extended contract offers to the following free agents: MR Robinson Yambati – Has electric stuff with decent enough control. He’s got a good fastball in the mid 90s, and has two superb off-speed pitches in his slider and changeup. However, he’s 36 so there might not be much left in the tank. MR Keivi Rojas – A solid all around reliever. Good stuff, movement, and control. He’s got a good fastball that can hit 96 MPH, and his off-speed stuff is ok (Curve, change, knuckle curve). He’s not going to light up the stat sheet, but he’ll toss some good innings. MR Bryan Abreu – Looks like he could be a good option for an inning or so of work. Good stuff with ok movement and control. He’s a flamethrower – hitting 99 MPH with his fastball. He’s only got one off-speed pitch, a curve, but it’s a good one. He’s good enough to keep hitters off balance in limited outings. CL Parker Joe Robinson – Should be a reliable option out of the pen. Good stuff, movement, and control. He’s got 2 solid pitches in a 98 MPH fastball and a curve, but his changeup leaves a lot to be desired. Still, he’s a quality arm and should log some effective innings. This pair of trades is a classic Forel move - He’s at his best when he's keeping an eye towards the future. And as they say, you can never have too much pitching. But with the team in the middle of a pennant race and expected to defend their title, did Forel shake up the clubhouse too much? Four major players on the roster are no longer there – How will the team handle this? What will happen to their chemistry? |

August 2027
8/2/2027
RHP Robinson Yambati, RHP Keivi Rojas, and RHP Bryan Abreu have accepted contracts to join the Padres organization. 8/4/2027 27 year old catcher Jose Rodriguez has accepted a 5 year, $65,480,000 extension from the Padres. 8/5/2027 The Padres have locked up another one of their stars. RF Bernardo Orosco has agreed to terms for a 5 year, $78,230,000 extension. 8/8/2027 RHP Parker Joe Robinson has accepted a 2 year, $2.8 million contract from the Padres. 8/15/2027 San Diego received some bad news today. It appears that young star LF Tim Elmore is suffering from a herniated disc. The 24 year old will miss a minimum of 5 weeks as he recovers. 8/16/2027 RF Bernardo Orosco has been named the NL Player of the Week! In 34 at-bats he hit .441 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. 8/23/2027 Another week and another Padre star on fire. C Jose Rodriguez has been named the NL Player of the Week! Over the last 7 days Rodriguez has hit .455 with 4 HR and 12 RBI. 8/27/2027 More injury woes for the Padres. RF Bernardo Orosco came up short while running the bases in today’s game. It appears that he is suffering from knee tendinitis and will miss at least 1-2 weeks. Opposing defenses can breathe a little easier when facing the Padres now that Orosco and his 39 SB are on the bench for a while. Monthly Review The San Diego Padres and GM Syrio Forel have silenced all critics – at least for the time being. Following an eventful trading deadline, the Padres came out red hot and posted a 21-7 record for the month of August. San Diego has reinforced its lead over the Giants, as the gap is now 8 games. The Padres have a league best record of 79-52. The club’s pitching staff is once again a dominant force – ranking 1st or 2nd in the NL in every statistical category. The offense also continues to produce despite poor power numbers. San Diego leads the NL in BA, H, K, and SB. They also surprisingly rank 4th in OBP, despite ranking 16th in walks, and 4th in slugging, despite ranking 13th in HR. Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Juan Villalobos (.387 BA, 7 HR, 26 RBI, 20 R), Astros Top Pitcher – Wilson Alvarado (5-1, 1.76 ERA, 37 K), Blue Jays Rookie – Rodrigo Garcia (.327 BA, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 13 R), Rays NL: Top Batter – Chris McKinney (.407 BA, 5 HR, 24 RBI, 25 R), Padres Top Pitcher – Juan Corona (5-1, 2.22 ERA, 31 K), Crusaders Rookie – Ron Gregory (.307 BA, 8 HR, 30 RBI, 17 R), Cardinals |

September 2027
9/11/2027
Atlanta Braves owner John Malone has passed away. Malone had endured a long battle against health issues, but lost that fight this morning. His son, Robbie, has been named as the new owner. Robbie has a demanding nature and is not known to be a big spender. Our thoughts are with the Malone family. 9/13/2027 Tampa Bay’s Miguel Andujar hit his 300th homerun in today’s 7-5 victory over the Tigers. He went 2-5 with 2 RBI. For his career, Andujar has logged a .274 BA and 1596 hits. 9/15/2027 Eugene Emerald players C Jose Martinez and 1B Kanzaburo Tanaka have announced their retirements. 9/17/2027 Recently acquired SP Nacho Castillo has been sidelined. Castillo was taken out of today’s game following an on field collision. He’ll be out at least 3 weeks with an oblique strain. In other news, 1B Will Benson of the Orioles has extended his hitting streak to 20 games. 9/23/2027 Andresa Lopez of the Tampa Bay Rays threw a perfect game today! He racked up 11 K in a 3-0 win over the Yankees. 9/25/2027 San Antonio Missions players 2B Josh VanMeter and MR Alan Rumbold have announced their retirements. 9/27/2027 3B River Stevens of the El Paso Chihuahuas has announced his retirement. El Paso manager William Holmes has also announced his intent to leave the organization to pursue other employment options. 9/30/2027 C Soo-Yeon Chon and 3B Zhi-Jan Chin of the Lake Elsinore Storm have announced their retirements. But now we bring you some sad news from around the league. Tampa Bay owner Stuart Sternberg has passed away. He died unexpectedly while on vacation with his family. The organization has not announced who will take over the team, but the frontrunner appears to be his son, Stuart Jr. Our thoughts go out to their family. Monthly Review Despite clinching the division, the Padres appear to be limping into the playoffs. After a stellar August, San Diego has posted another losing month with a record of 13-14. Still, the team is tied for the second best record in the league at 92-66. The pitching staff remains in top form, but the offense has struggled as of late; contributing to the team’s issues. They say that pitching and defense wins championships, and San Diego has those in abundance. But can the team produce enough runs to make it through the playoffs? Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Jesus Polanco (.370 BA, 10 HR, 29 RBI, 23 R), Rangers Top Pitcher – Chris Moore (5-0, 2.78 ERA, 33 K), Astros Rookie – Jose Rivera (.397 BA, 6 HR, 13 RBI, 11 R), Orioles NL: Top Batter – Ivan Pena (.390 BA, 4 HR, 20 RBI, 15 R), Giants Top Pitcher – Harman Barteaux (4-0, 1.19 ERA, 46 K), Crusaders Rookie – Ron Pittman (.382 BA, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 14 R), Crusaders |

End of Season 2027
San Diego finished in 1st place in the NL West with a record of 94-68. The Padres finished 6 games ahead of the 2nd place Giants. The record feels a little deceiving. The team had a hot April and a hot August, but only played slightly above .500 ball for the rest of the season. Still, those two dominant months were enough to keep the team on top of the division. It’s now time to see if the best pitching staff in the NL can power this team through the playoffs.

Postseason 2027
Houston and Toronto squared off in the AL Wildcard. These teams had two of the best offenses in the AL and the score line reflected that. The Blue Jays won, 14-12. In the NL it was the Giants versus the Phillies. These were two very well-matched teams – as they both had dominant pitching staffs and so-so offenses. The Giants had the upper hand over the course of the season, going 5-1 against the Phillies. The Wildcard game would play out much the same way. San Francisco took it 6-5.

Season Review 2027
The Good
C Jose Rodriguez .288/.378/.493, 4 Triples, 31 Doubles, 22 HR, 78 RBI, 12 SB, 5.3 WAR. The former 27th round draft pick continues to impress. San Diego will be happy to see some of Rodriguez’s power return in 2027. The 27 year old hit a career best 31 doubles and nearly doubled his HR numbers from last season. 2B Chris “Ant” McKinney .304/.363/.475, 28 Doubles, 19 HR, 73 RBI, 5.0 WAR. 2027 was Ant’s best year as a professional. His numbers were very similar to last season, only this year he cut down on his strikeouts and increased his walks. He improved his BA by 18 points, his OBP by 24 points, and his slugging by 47 points. LF Tim Elmore .264/.303/.426, 20 HR, 71 RBI, 4.1 WAR. 2027 wasn’t quite the year that Elmore was hoping for, but that’s not to say that it was a bad season. After last year’s breakout performance, Elmore came back down to Earth a bit, seeing his line drop across the board. But there were a lot of positives for Tim in 2027 – he set career best marks in doubles, RBI, and SB, and a career low for strikeouts. RF Bernardo Orosco .319/.463/.468, 29 Doubles, 8 Triples, 8 HR, 50 SB, 6.0 WAR. Orosco missed some time with injury, only playing in 116 games, but his numbers were very similar to last year’s performance. He continues to hit for a good average and is an absolute demon on the base paths. SP Beau Burrows 16-8, 165 K, 2.12 ERA, 6.0 WAR. In 2027, Burrows set career bests in ERA, BB, and WAR. He also nearly matched his career best WHIP (0.97) with 0.98 for the season. SP Raul Barosio 18-2, 163 K, 2.07 ERA, 5.3 WAR. Barosio found himself in the unfamiliar role of starter in 2027, but performed admirably. Despite his great success, Barosio has not been happy as a starter. It’s a situation that’s all too familiar to the Padres, as they dealt with the exact same problem with CL Matt Laval. While this might be the only year they get out of Barosio in which he is a starter, he certainly gave San Diego his all in that role. The Bad SP Eric Confer 3-8, 109 K, 4.26 ERA, 1.6 WAR. Confer lost his form for the Padres in 2027. Many of his numbers weren’t far off from his regular pace, but the biggest difference was BABIP (.336). Opposing batters were just finding every hole, which led to a lot of runners, and therefore a lot of runs. He seemed to have regained his form after being traded to Seattle. Maybe a change of scenery was all he needed. |

2028 Free Agents
The top free agents in the market are:
CF Brad Sutherland – Sutherland is coming off of one of his best seasons as a professional. In 2027 he held a line of .274/.356/.546 with 35 2B, 27 HR, and a 3.9 WAR. He’s always had tons of potential, but the consistency just hasn’t been there for him to reach it. SP Keith Murdock – He’s a flamethrower that can hit 101 MPH. He’s got 3 plus pitches, but his stuff has lost some of its effectiveness. Accuracy is also an issue for Murdock at times. A backend starter. SP Eric Confer – Confer struggled in the first half of the 2027 season, but he regained some of his form in the second half. His slider has lost a lot of its bite, but he’s still got 3 good pitches. Teams looking to sign Confer will hope that last year’s struggles were just a fluke and that he’ll once again be the pitcher that won the Pitcher of the Year Award. 1B Jesus Santos – A prototypical power hitter. He’s got huge power, but he’ll swing and miss a lot as well. Can be counted on for 40+ HR, 100+ RBI, and 140+ K. 1B Ben Marsh – Marsh is coming off of a career year in 2027 - .315/.409/.513, 25 HR, 5.9 WAR. With the right players around him, Marsh can be an effective offensive force. SS T.J. Heath – Heath has put together a very nice career so far. He hits for a high average, nabs a decent amount of stolen bases, and doesn’t strikeout very often. He’s perhaps not quite fast enough to be a true leadoff hitter, but he’s a solid addition to any lineup. SP Chris Moore – He’s decent across the board, but his stuff isn’t as effective as you’d like. Backend starter – won’t kill you, but won’t anchor your staff either. SP Jake Godfrey – Same story as Moore. He’s decent with stuff that you wish was a little better. The main difference is that Godfrey can bring the heat – hitting 99 MPH. Another backend starter. RF Gregory Polanco – An average hitter who is starting to near the end of his career. He’s still got some left in the tank, but his decline could come at any moment. C Norm McCord – A good offensive player that can add power to any lineup. A rather typical power hitter – good pop, but swings and misses often. His skills have started to decline, so picking him up might be a risky proposition. |
