Thanks Chris, I actually only used fighters that debuted from 1880 on, so no Professor Charles or John L.

I should have sprinkled these guys in at random later, but I only imported from 1880 forward, so that can't even be done now.

Round 2 of qualifiers for 1897 is a wrap and James Corbett continues his inconsistency, in what is turning into a very disappointing career, while the numbers 1 and 2 ranked fighters in world (Jackson and Ryan) are on a collision course in the Heenan group. The promising Tom Sharkey remains unbeaten and is on the verge of cracking the top 4 in the Cribb group, currently ranked 5th behind Pat Killen.

Round 3 for 1897 is complete and Bob Armstrong has vaulted into the top 4 in the Broughton group with a shocking demolition of Harry Peppers. In the Cribb group Tom Sharkey remains unbeaten and is turning heads, while James Corbett gets a huge win over LaBlanche getting a solid foothold into returning to the World Cup.

The final rankings are in and Peter Jackson is the favorite to take this years Cup, with reigning champion Tommy Ryan also meriting consideration, with Tom Sharkey the only youngster in the field. The big news is the arrival of Jack Johnson, who will finally enter the qualifying ranks in 1898 and is sure to infuse some excitement into the competition.

Saying goodbye is longtime World Cup entrant Joe Choynski, who while consistently in the field, only has one final four appearance on his ledger.

He is still cruising along at prime, so at least another good year left. The only 3 active fighters with wins over him are Tommy Ryan (1896 WC), 'Kid' McCoy (1894 qualifying) and Harry Peppers (1894 WC).

He is 19-1 since the loss to Peppers, who is the only one of those 3 he has not beaten, but I don't see Peppers duplicating the feat if they meet again. At this point Ryan is the best bet to beat him until he either hits post prime, or Johnson emerges.

After Jackson is gone, Johnson may win multiple WC titles, though James Jeffries is lurking in the local circuit at 8-0-0 and should hit the qualifying rounds in 1899. After that the next truly talented crop of fighters will not debut until 1902 when Tommy Burns, Sam Langford and Sam McVey turn pro.

The 1897 World Cup sees the reigning champion fall in round 1, an unprecedented run by a journeyman fighter and another disappointment for James J Corbett. But in the end, the best fighter in the game stands tall and hoists his third World Cup.

Final round of qualifying for 1898 World Cup is complete and Corbett will be staying home after a galling loss in the 2nd round of qualifying. Jack Johnson captures the top spot in the Broughton Group and is though to pose a serious threat to reigning champion Peter Jackson. Young Mitchell gets win 50 and qualifies in the 4th spot in Jackson's group, but has already announced he will retire after the 1898 WC concludes.

The final round of qualifiers are done and we have two unbeaten newcomers in the tournament as James Jeffries and Jack Lalor both sweep through their pools to make the final 16. A third, Jack Root was denied a trip to World Cup losing a tough 10 round decision to aging veteran Harry Peppers.

Peter Jackson continues to carve up the competition with no signs of slowing down and the public is hoping to see him clash with one of the young prospects in this years tournament.

Final rankings for 1899 and the World Cup field will present reigning champion Peter Jackson with some challenges. Carroll McGinnity is the second amateur (RFG tomato can) to ever make his way into the world cup, through it is not expected he will survive the first round. The promotions for 1900 are rather underwhelming, though the debut of Eddie McGoorty brings a quality fighter who should debut by 1903 in the qualifiers.

The 10th edition of the annual World Cup concludes with an epic rematch between the two boxers most regard as the future of the sport. Peter Jackson is stymied in his efforts to win an unprecedented 5th title and O'Brien and Johnson now sit tied at 1-1 in head to head competition, with the thought being there will be several more showdowns to come.

The sole disappointment of the tournament was Jeffries loss to LaBlanche, which derailed a highly anticipated semi-final bout between him and Johnson, which will now have to wait at least one more year.

I should have sprinkled these guys in at random later, but I only imported from 1880 forward, so that can't even be done now.
