1905 World Series Preview
![]() With Sam Crawford and Noodles Hahn in, the Reds would be the favorites here, but that just isn’t the case. Cincinnati will have to make do without their best players, against a team that surprised me by having the best pitching numbers in the AL. Mike Donlin is becoming a star, along side of John McGraw, and Hooks Wiltse…WOW. Wiltse was drafted 9th by Brooklyn in 1903. He has traded to NY following the 1904 season. He started this season in the minors, and wasn’t that good. Once he made his MLB debut though…dominance!! Now he’s the Highlanders ace starting game 2 of the World Series! 1905 World Series
![]() New York holds the Reds to 1 run in the first three games, and 4 total in their 4 wins, and win the series easily, 4 games to 1. The aforementioned Hooks Wiltse goes 2-0, with a 1.50 ERA and two complete game victories. Last edited by George_Bell; 06-07-2014 at 09:33 AM. |

1905-06 Offseason News and Notes
17 year old Tris Speaker and 18 year old Eddie Collins head up the 1905 MLB draft. Both players are franchise changing players. Both need some seasoning in the minors though. ![]() Tris Speaker ends up going 1st overall to the St. Louis Cardinals. He looks to start his professional career in Montreal as a member of the Royals. Eddie Collins goes number 2 to the Athletics. Like Speaker, he’s going to start in AAA Baltimore. ![]() ![]() The first deal which I would all a blockbuster was completed on Nov, 8. The Phillies send Elmer Flick, to the White Sox for 16 year old Fred Merkle. ![]() Elmer Flick won the 1902 World Series with Philadelphia, and was one of the best players in baseball at the time. Since then, his skills have eroded a bit, and the 29 year old hasn’t hit .300 in the 3 seasons since. He’s still a very good hitter though, and one of the best defensive outfielders in the game. He’s also very popular. Merkle was drafted in the 2nd round, 25th overall just 1 week ago. He’s very young, but’s he’s got a lot of potential. It’s always a risk to trade for a 16 year old, as Merkle will need a few years in the minors. Bob Rhodes looks like just a throw in. The New York Highlanders just got better in their attempt to defend their title. ![]() New York picks up true ace Eddie Plank from the Athletics for 3 young players , the most talented being 3B Ed Lennox. Plank is an ace despite his win loss record the last few years. In his 5 MLB seasons, he’s put up a 54.3 WAR, and has a career ERA of 2.51. OSA lists him as the 9th best player in baseball. Great trade for the Highlanders. Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:24 AM. |

1906 Preview
![]() OSA thinks the Highlanders are the AL’s only good team. They may be right, though I think the league as a whole will put up more of a fight then this. ![]() Can Noodles Hahn and Sam Crawford rebound from injuries ending their season’s early, and can the Pirates find their way back to the World Series? It’s a season of redemption in the NL. Top Player ![]() Jimmy Sheckard is a good ball player, a very good ball player, but baseball’s writers are wrong. He isn’t the best hitter in the league. Delahanty, whose, 282 hits shy of Cap Anson’s hits record is. Sheckard infact should probably be around #10. Top Pitcher ![]() Noodles Hahn looks healthy, and ready to get his Reds back to the Fall Classic. I’d obviously put Rube Waddell here, but the writers seem to dislike him. Waddell has been the class of the league for years. Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:26 AM. |

1906 Regular Season
The New York Giants made, what I think is a pretty dumb trade. On May 21st, they agreed to trade SP Red Ames to the Boston Americans for prospects. ![]() Ames was drafted 4th overall in 1903, he won the NL rookie of the year in 04. He won 47 games with a WAR of 25.0 over his first 2 seasons. He’s 23. Boston picks up a pitcher who could be special. Fred Luderus, has 4 star potential, and may hit a few home runs one day, but he’s terrible defensively, he’ll probably never hit for average, and really isn’t enough for a pitcher like Ames. ![]() Pennant races….those didn’t exist in 1906. Both the Pirates and Highlanders found themselves so far ahead by August, they were able to coast the final two months into the World Series. Pittsburgh sets a new record with 103 wins. ![]() Red Ames ends up leading the AL in ERA. Terrible trade by the Giants, and great trade by the Americans. ![]() So, Pittsburgh has a pretty good pitching staff, don’t they?! Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:29 AM. |

1906 World Series
![]() Wow, I’m a bit shocked. The Pirates pitching was so good this year, but New York was able to score 24 times in 6 games. That might not seem like a lot, but when you only look at the 4 Highlander wins, it’s 19 runs in 4 games. Almost five a game. Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:30 AM. |

1906-07 Offseason news and notes
1906 MLB Draft The big names in the 1906 MLB draft include Smokey Joe Wood, and Home Run Baker. They aren’t the big prizes though, the clear cut number 1 pick is one of the greatest pitchers ever to play baseball. The Big Train himself, Walter Johnson. ![]() Johnson goes to the Cubs. If Johnson can even come close to his real life dominance, the Cubs’ will be winning a few more Worlds Series then in real life! ![]() Cy Young is still hanging on. He’s not anywhere close to the pitcher he once was. Injuries will do that, but here’s how the 39 year old has done the last 3 seasons. ![]() Ed Delahanty will enter the season 92 hits behind Cap Anson for the all-time hits lead. Barring injury, he’ll pass this mark in late June or early July. Delahanty, whose now 39, has won 5 NL MVP’s, and 5 batting championships. ![]() Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:41 AM. |

1907 Preview
![]() The Highlanders have to be the favorites to run away with the American League. They are trying to become the first team to 3-peat. ![]() A great 3 team battle would be fun. Ty Cobb is now a man, a man capable of carrying a team all the way. Lets see how he performs with the pressure of being an elite player. 1907 Top Hitter ![]() 1907 Top Pitcher ![]() OSA continues their love affair with Noodles. He's good, he's top 5, but he isn't the best pitcher in baseball. Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:43 AM. |

1907 Regular Season
Philadelphia’s Nap Lajoie finally returned from a devastating injury which almost ended his career. He suffered a torn labrum early in 1905, and came back to early. The result was a re-injury, which caused him to the rest of the 05 season, all of 1906, and the beginning of 1907. He’s 32 now, he played 17 rehab games in AAA Baltimore, where he hit .352. His first game back in the Bigs was June 11th, against the Browns. Lajoie went 1/3, with 2 BB’s and 2 RBI’s. He sprained his finger a week later. Nothing serious, but injuries are obviously a major concern now. On July 2nd, Ed Delahanty went 1/3 against the Doves, which tied him with Cap Anson on the all-time hits list with 3418. Delahanty went 1/3 the next day setting the all-time record. It’s kinda fitting he does it opposite Ty Cobb, who should be able to challenge the record one day. ![]() A very surprising story emerging out of Boston. The Doves trail the Reds by 3 games. It’s Sep 1, so lots of baseball left. This story hits the wire… ![]() Is this the death of his father, which affected the real life Cobb his whole life, but occurred in 1905 in real life? Is this have to do with Ty’s greed, and maybe his holding’s in the Coca Cola soda company? Is this some sort of under the table suspension for jumping into the stands and beating a handicapped man? I’m sure more will be learned as time goes on! With just 1 week remaining in the season, Nap Lajoie’s luck stayed the same. Broken Kneecap. 8-9 months recovery. He was having a fantastic return, hitting .369. He’ll be almost 34 if all goes well in rehab. The Doves faded without their young star, and no more news came out about what Cobb was upto. The Reds returned to the World Series, and would take on the New York Highlanders, who set the new MLB win record with 105 ![]() ![]() Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:47 AM. |

1907 World Series
![]() Baseball is now dominated by pitching. This season, both leagues combined to hit just .246. The pitching dominance was never more evident than in the World Series. New York outscores the Reds 11-5 in as exciting a 4 game sweep can be. The Highlanders won game 1 in the bottom of the ninth, and took the series clincher in the 12th inning. Eddie Plank pitched all 12 innings for the Highlanders, who enjoy their 3rd straight title! Last edited by George_Bell; 06-08-2014 at 10:49 AM. |
