Very well put.

Don't want to go off topic, but these foundations have been in place for years. I managed an Electronics Boutique 10+ years ago and saw this crap release/poor reception/buy on hope next year behavior there. (Insert Madden joke here) Thought it would be a dream job, turned off by the business realities. And crap pay.

That being said, given the complexity and depth of what OOTP offers, I go in expecting some rough spots-- using the time between release and eventual patches to tinker and brainstorm ideas so once the "final" version is out, I can get down to you know...playing my league. Just in time for next year's version

Also, I know iOOTP has been made a scapegoat of sorts, but the game is fantastic. Might be the most fun I've had since OOTP 6.5.

Considering the very, very late start for beta (which I missed about half of due to a summer vacation trip), I think 12 came out pretty good. I would be the first to admit there's no new feature in it that would make me run out and buy it when compared to 11, but there are a lot of cool little things and the basis for some great stuff.

If we had our normal beta cycle, I don't think many of the things that are waiting for patch 2 would have slipped through, but whaddya do? The guys had an opportunity to make some extra money and get on the iPhone bandwagon, and they took it. I sure as hell would have.

So, our online league skips 12 for a while (maybe altogether). So, we have to wait for a couple of patches for it to be "perfect." All in all, I think that's pretty good for a "basement" developed game that turns out to be the best text based baseball sim on the planet!

Beings will most definitely come." - Gladden Field of Dreams

I respect what you are saying Solonor, but if I preordered a game months in advance and waiting until June for this game, I would be disappointed hearing that this game took a backseat to IOOTP. Can't blame Markus and co for trying to expand their pocket book, but its got to be frustrating for some customers to get what they perceive as a game that is buggy and not packed with new features. Fans of the game that might not follow the forums closely, might have assumed that the June release date was due to time spent improving this game.

Which is exactly why game development shouldn't totally be dictated by a message board. I feel if the community hadn't acted so childishly about the release date the game would have been held back so some polish could be applied. However, imo, instead Markus listened to the community and rushed the game and now we are where we are. The game should have been released when it was finished, not when the community demanded it. As much as I appreciate Markus listening to the community so much I occasionally wish he'd just tell us to shut up.

Note to self: Princess Kenny was really off-putting.

The subject was brought up on March 29th. see my thread:

I accepted Markus explanation in post #78

I don't regret buying OOTP12 and I am enjoying it every day. Best of the series imo.

Like any long-time internet forum community (or sports bar), people tend to confuse their own relevance with the game the profess to love. Honestly, I would be surprised if the community factored at all into Markus and company's decision to release the game when they did.
