This picture tells it all. Including trashing the idea that the record means little to him. The way he handled it, though, just makes you want to pat him on the back all the more.

Here's the story, which bears posting. Also, here's a nod to Trevor Hoffman, another great player. Look at him and Mo on the top of the all-time saves list, then look at the total for number 3.

What a class act he is. He looked so uncomfortable up there with the spot light shining on him. It's a refreshing change from the players who are always trying to turn the spot light on them. Rivera is a true team player.

Yay. Yankees are winners again, despite Cliff Lee choosing a valiant path. Go MLB! Its fun, right? Good stuff. Good storylines...etc etc...

Yep, two storylines being future HoF'ers distinguishing themselves in the same season, one in which IIRC the BoSox were annointed champions (or at least had a date with the Phillies in the WS) before it began. Stuff happens in baseball, so I never make predictions like that.

The Yankees are playing over their heads given a so-so pitching rotation (Garcia and Colon filling in adequately for Hughes, Chamberlain, and Pettitte) and injuries to their older regulars. This guy Nova, though - I am really glad the Yankees did not trade him for Lee or anybody else. Yes, Ian Kennedy is now a 20-game winner in Arizona but Granderson came to the Yankees as a result. Everything has worked out well so far.

Playoffs, here we come!

Even as a Tigers fan, it's been a joy to watch Mo and Jeter over the years. I hope that they both have several more productive years ahead of them.

On another note:

In a quiet moment, away from it all, doesn't even John Sterling have to think "wow, I am such a tool". He and Suzy-Q are horrible year-in and year-out. Can't the evil empire do better in the booth?

What you posted in jest is actually true. Some great guys achieved great milestones and the "underdog" did something that no one expected them to do in the beginning of the season. Kids have shined this year for the Yankees helping them achieve this division crown. If it wasn't for Robertson, Nova, Nunez etc., the Yankees wouldn't have been anywhere close to where they are.

As for Cliff Lee choosing the "valiant" path, get off your high horse. If he went back the Mariners, stayed with Texas or went to a slew of other small market teams, you'd have an argument. He went to the Yankees of the NL and joined a rotation with another "hired gun" to make up what's one of the strongest rotations ever assembled. I don't really see anything "valiant" in that.

The Yankees are being put in a very powerful position of essentially being able to choose their first playoff opponent starting with the final regular season series against the Rays.

Question:

Do/Should the Yankees tank against the Rays in order to keep the Red Sox out?

Heh, I SWEAR I did not read this before posting what I did in the Red Sox thread!

No.

They will be resting their regulars anyway, but I don't think they should just groove fastballs to the Rays to allow them to sweep.

Plus, right now, I think the Rays are stronger than the Red Sox anyway.

Excellent. Plus points to the Yankees for that.

Hopefully the O's have their regular lineup out as well...

haha the pitching staff was hardly regular though.

I just want them to lay down completely. Talk about adding some wood to the burning fire that is this rivalry.
