Straw Third Round
Nkosinathi Joyi 20-0-1 (14) vs Rosendo Alvarez 47-12-2 (26)
A war was anticipated and Joyi rocked Alvarez several times in the opening round with uppercuts in close and a nasty 3 punch combo. After another strong round from Nkosinathi, Rosendo struck with a right hand early in the third and set off an explosive exchange that Alvarez ended with a sharp hook that hurt the South African, the final thirty seconds was all Alvarez as he pounded Joyi with lefts and rights to the body and head. The fourth and the opening minute of round five were very slow, with as much grappling inside as there was punching. Then Rosendo struck with a brutal right hand that put Joyi down for a five count, Alvarez poured it on with hooks and right hands until a right hand scored flush on the chin and the referee stepped in. Not a huge upset, but the top seed is gone. WBC TITLE Ricardo Lopez 41-0 (34) vs Jun Orhaliza 15-3-3 (7) After Lopez boxed brilliantly in the first three rounds, Orhaliza hurt him with a hook in the fourth and followed up with several more. Finito stormed back in the fifth and dropped Jun with a 3 punch combo, his follow body assault had the Filipino holding on at the end of the stanza but both men had noticeable swelling around their right eyes. Ricardo continued to batter Orhaliza with every shot in his vast arsenal and the non competitive nature along with his closed right eye led to the stoppage in round eight. Leo Gamez 69-10-2 (34) vs Oleydong Sithsamerchai 18-3 (4) This was a very competitive, but not overly dramatic, fight. Gamez was stunned in round two by a sharp combo and he hurt Oleydong in the fifth with an uppercut, but it was mainly good hard infighting and Leo landed more frequently and with the harder blows and that led him to the UD, 116-113 & 116-112 x2 Matthew Bell 37-3-1 (22) vs Hi-Yong Choi 36-4-1 (13) This fast paced bout saw both of them scoring with combinations to the head and body during the first two rounds. Bell hurt Choi in the third with a searing hook but Hi bounced back to box beautifully in round four and he landed several hard uppercuts. Matthew began to get the best of things in the next two rounds with some hard hooks to the body. After another good round for Bell in the seventh they went to war in round eight, Choi opened furiously with four and five punch combinations that left Bell with a swollen right eye. A short hook stunned Matthew and then he opened a cut under Choi's right eye with a stiff jab and then a 3 punch combo busted open Hi-Yong's left eye in a bad spot. The action remained intense down the stretch, bell hurt Choi with a hard right hand in round nine and staved off a late rally by his foe to take the hard fought MD. 116-112, 115-113 & 114-114

Straw Third Round
Ivan Calderon 39-1-1 (10) vs Chana Porpaoin 33-7-1 (8)
Calderon shrugged off an early cut on his lip to put on a masterclass exhibition, peppering Porpaoin with clean combinations and accurate counters that nearly closed his right eye and busted open his left on the way to a comprehensive UD. 118-109 x2 & 117-110 Ratanapol Sor Vorapin 19-1-1 (12) vs Daniel Reyes 27-12-2 (16) The opening round was a brutal display as they traded heavily on the inside and Sor Vorapin hurt Reyes with two hooks and Daniel responded with a crushing right hand that buckled the Thai late. Ratanapol got the best of the next few rounds with hard left hands that drew swelling from Reyes right eye. The Colombian took over in the middle rounds with bruising right hands and uppercuts that had Sor Vorapin's left eye closing by the end of round eight. Ratanapol stormed back when things looked bleak and he out-punched Reyes down the stretch to pull out the tough UD. 115-113 x3 Roman Gonzalez 35-3-3 (26) vs Sithembele Kibiti 14-5-2 (8) Chocolito jumped on the South African early and absolutely battered him in round two with brutal combinations before dropping him for an eight count late in the round with a vicious uppercut. Kibiti's left eye began to close as Roman dominated the next two rounds with pinpoint combinations. Kibiti showed incredible grit, matching Gonzalez blow for blow in the fifth and sixth with grueling in-fighting that saw both absorb violent body shots and their heads were snapped back with uppercuts, Sithembele rocked Roman late in round six with a 3 punch combo and left the Nicaraguan with a swollen right eye.The comeback was short lived as Gonzalez quickly resumed control and dropped his game opponent in the eighth and tenth with crosses and once more in the final round with a hook but Kibiti refused to finished and heard the UD for Gonzalez. 118-104, 117-105 & 114-109 Yutaka Niida 19-1-2 (6) vs Carlos Eluaiza 17-2-2 (9) Eluaiza used aggression and strong right hands to take the first two rounds, Niida got on his toes and the action stalled from there. A hard left hand hurt Carlos in round five but that was the last dramatic moment as Niida jabbed, grabbed and moved his way to the dull UD. 117-114, 116-114 & 115-113

Straw Third Round
IBO TITLE
Kwanjai 3K Battery 13-7-2 (2) vs Joma Gamboa 31-8-2 (8) Joma controlled the bout behind his jab, it wasn't thrilling but he was very effective and took the wide UD. 118-109, 117-110 & 116-111 Muhammad Rachman 18-1-2 (4) vs Arman DelaCruz 15-4-2 (9) Rematch: Rachman SD10 & UD10 This was a very tight contest with DelaCruz pressing hard and Rachman using movement and counters. There wasn't any really dramatic moments but most observers thought Arman had done enough to get the nod, one judge agreed at 115-113, the other two could not separate them and the two 114-114 cards mean they will fight for a fourth time. Eagle Den Janlaphan 16-4-1 (5) vs Sarikalek Eakarin 34-6-1 (26) Den Janlaphan fought off an early cut over his right eye and some powerful hooks and uppercuts along the way to soundly out-box his hard charging rival before unloading on him in the final round with a fusillade of blows that caused the referee to intervene with ten seconds left in the bout. Rodel Mayol 33-6-2 (25) vs Kyung-Yun Lee 15-6 (4) Rodel pressured Lee from the opening seconds with hard lefts and rights and Kyung had nothing to hold him off with, a vicious hook dropped him for a five count in round two and a cross put him down and out later in the round.

Straw Third Round
Zukisani Kwayiba 18-4 (6) vs Napa Kiatwanchai 15-5-1 (5)
Kwayiba floored his Thai opponent with an uppercut in round two and appeared to have things well under control when Napa caught him coming in with a hook early in round five and pounced on Zukisani; firing off combinations with both hands until the referee stepped in and called a halt. Isaac Bustos 17-3-1 (4) vs Zolani Petelo 18-2-1 (7) Fast paced bout that saw neither man hurt or able to generate any real momentum. Petelo did stun Bustos in the ninth with a sharp combination but the three judges got this one right, 114-114 x3 IBF & WBO TITLES Edmund Villamor 14-7 (7) vs Kermin Guardia 25-15-2 (10) Villamor started quickly and he tagged the champion with two crossed before wobbling him with a hook, as he advanced in Guardia launched a right hand that landed flush and dropped Edmund for a seven count. He arose on unsteady legs and Kermin tattooed him with one right hand after another until the ref mercifully called the bout. WBA TITLE Juan Landaeta 20-1 (12) vs Fahlan Sakkreerin26-14-3 (3) Landaeta used his power punching to dominate throughout until he floored Fahlan with a barrage of shots in round eight and he took the title when a violent hook put Sakkreerin down and out for the count. Rematches: Muhammad Rachman 18-1-3 (4) vs Arman DelaCruz 15-4-3 (9) Another tight bout between these two, with DelaCruz scoring the heavier shots while The Indonesian continued with his steady boxing and deft movement. Arman landed several big left hands in the final round and he looked jubilant at the final bell but he fell just short and Rachman took the SD, 114-113 x2 & 112-115 Isaac Bustos 17-3-2 (4) vs Zolani Petelo 18-2-2 (7) Bustos completely turned things in his favor fighting a more aggressive fight, peppering Petelo with clean combinations and dominating throughout to take the UD. 119-109 & 119-110 x2

Straw Fourth Round
Rosendo Alvarez 48-12-2 (27) vs (WBA) Juan Landaeta 21-1 (13)
El Buffalo continued to impress far past his #33 seed in the tourney and he dealt up a nasty beating for Landaeta. Roman floored Baby with a hook for a nine count in the second and by round seven both of his eyes were badly swollen. Early in round seven a crippling hook to the body put Juan on his hands and knees for an eight count and an uppercut dropped him again forty seconds later, he showed tremendous resolve by beating the count but two more right hands brought the ref to his rescue. (WBC) Ricardo Lopez 42-0 (35) vs (IBF & WBO) Kermin Guardia 26-15-2 (11) The Colombian underdog was surprisingly effective in the first four rounds, using his jab, right hand and awkward movement to keep Lopez off guard and unable to deliver his punishing body attack. In round five Finito hurt Guardia with a hook and punished him along the ropes vicious hooks to the body and head. That opened the floodgates and Ricardo ground kermin down with a ferocious assault to the body with both hands and floored him with a combo in the final seconds to culminate a tougher than expected UD, 117-110 & 116-111 x2 Leo Gamez 70-10-2 (34) vs Isaac Bustos 18-3-2 (4) Isaac used his stiff jab to build an early lead and bust open Gamez's right eyebrow. The blood brought urgency to leo's attack and he slammed hard right hands into Bustos side and head in rounds five and six. Bustos came out for the seventh with distention on his left eye and Gamez promptly dropped him with a vicious right hand, he was up at six and by the end of the round the Mexican was fighting back and a hook reopened the nasty gash over Leo's right eye. With the fight tight on the cards, two stiff jabs exploded Gamez already bad eye and the doctor and ref decided he could not continue. Matthew Bell 38-3-1 (22) vs Napa Kiatwanchai 16-5-1 (6) The first four rounds were rough and tumble and featured two warnings apiece as they ground it out on the inside, Kiatwanchai staggered Bell in the second with an uppercut but Bell came back in the third with two hard right hands that drew swelling from the Thai fighters left eye. Bell dominated the fifth with stiff jabs and hooks, one of the former opened a bad cut over Kiatwanchai's right eye and a late right hand buckled his legs. After Bell dominated round six, Napa came back in round seven and landed several clean hooks to the body. Early in round eight Zeke connected with a sizzling hook that put the Thai fighter down hard, he barely beat the count and Matthew went for broke, slamming hard lefts and rights to the head that busted open his nose and reopened the gash, Kiatwanchai survived the round but his face was a bloody and swollen mess. Bell continued to dominate and destroy his opponents face, until they finally pulled the plug in round eleven.

Straw Fourth Round
Ivan Calderon 40-1-1 (10) vs Rodel Mayol 34-6-2 (26)
Calderon was at his utmost best, bouncing in and out with 3 and four punch combos while mayol pressed forward in vein trying to land a big shot to change the tide. In the ninth Rodel walked into a short left hand that floored him for an eight count, Calderon went after it and drilled him with several hard shots over the final minute of the round but he couldn't finish him anymore than mayol could produce the needed offense to win. The defending nerd tournament champion advanced with a thoroughly dominant UD. 119-108 & 118-109 x2 Ratanapol Sor Vorapin 20-1-1 (12) vs Eagle den Janlaphan 17-4-1 (6) They engaged in a fast paced battle that saw Eagle take the early edge with speedy combos while Sor Vorapin scored with the, more infrequent, but harder blows. In the sixth a short hook followed by a left uppercut rocked Den Janlaphan and ratanapol scored with two hard straight lefts to close the round. Eagle caught him with several hard counters to rebound in round eight, but his lead was overcome with non-stop punching down the stretch from Sor Vorapin and he took this all Thai battle by tight MD, 115-113 x2 & 114-114 Roman Gonzalez 36-3-3 (26) vs Muhammad Rachman 19-1-3 (4) Rematch: Gonzalez UD10 Chocolito once again proved to be too much for Rachman as he blitzed him from the opening bell with brutal combinations while the crafty Indonesian had nothing to hold him off with, after three clear rounds for Gonzalez he floored Muhammad early in the fourth with an uppercut and then swarmed him with a barrage of shots that ended with another uppercut that put him down for a nine count; Rachman bravely continued but a 3 punch combo prompted the ref to step in for the dominant fourth round TKO that sets up a highly anticipated clash with Ricardo Lopez in the quarters. Yutaka Niida 20-1-2 (6) vs (IBO) Joma Gamboa 32-8-2 (8) Neither of them being the most thrilling competitors, they put on a very tight bout that was jab predominant and neither man was ever hurt. None of the rounds were clear cut and the bout had its drama without providing much action. Niida tagged Gamboa with several combos in the final round and that provided the slim margin of victory and though he hasn't thrilled the SD left him in the final eight, 115-114 x2 & 113-116

Straw QF
(WBA) Rosendo Alvarez 49-12-2 (28) vs (IBO) Yutaka Niida 21-1-2 (6)
After a slow start for both of them, Alvarez staggered Niida with a right hand in the third and scored with several hard follow up hooks that formed puffiness under his right eye. Yutaka stunned El Buffalo in the fifth with a straight left and they traded heavily over the remainder of the stanza with Rosendo hurting him with an uppercut before the bell. Round eight was the best for Niida so far as he strung together beautiful combinations that had Alvarez on his back foot. After two nondescript rounds Yutaka picked it back up in the final minute of the eleventh with a slew of straight left hands and he brushed off a huge right from Rosendo to outwork in the final round and take the SD, 117-113, 114-115 & 116-113 (IBF,WBC,WBO) Ricardo Lopez 43-0 (35) vs Roman Gonzalez 37-3-3 (27) Moments into the bout Chocolito scored with a crushing right hand that buckled Ricardo's legs and Roman went after him with both hands and while he landed several hard shots, Lopez kept his wits and in the final half minute hew rocked Gonzalez with a 3 punch combo and finished the round with two vicious uppercuts. Roman appeared to have an edge during the next two rounds of rough in-fighting as he tagged Finito with some hard right hands. Lopez made the fourth the first dominant round of the fight, stunning his foe with a 3 punch combo and blasting him with hooks to the body and short hooks and uppercuts to the head. Gonzalez stormed out for the fifth with purpose and he drove Lopez into the ropes with two hard hooks a minute in, the rest of the round Ricardo countered off the ropes with hooks and uppercuts but Gonzalez overwhelmed the action with brutal right hands and hooks in combinations. Lopez used his jab to keep more distance in round six and he scored with right hands and hooks to the body to take the round. Chocolito worked well back on the inside in the seventh as he banged away to the body with hooks and uppercuts while he smothered Finito's offense. That changed a minute into round eight when Lopez snapped his head back with an uppercut straight into a picture perfect hook that put Gonzalez down for a five count, Finito scored well with both hands to the head and body but Gonzalez was able to keep his jab out there enough to keep the ref at bay and survive the round. Once again the momentum abruptly changed as Gonzalez dominated rounds nine and ten with brutal hooks and uppercuts on the inside while Lopez sporadically countered with his own, a dazzling four punch combo sent Ricardo back to his corner with a rapidly swelling right eye. Early in round eleven Lopez connected with a double jab and a straight right that buckled Roman's legs and then Finito immediately scored with another right that put him down for a five count, Lopez waded in and ripped off two uppercuts to the head before uncorking a violent hook to the body that put Gonzalez down again, he somehow arose at nine and managed to hang around over the final minute of the round without suffering much more damage. Lopez looked arm weary early in the final round but at the half way point he started putting together marvelous combinations like a 3 punch combo to the body followed by a searing hook to the head that put Roman down for the fourth time with twenty seconds to go, he unloaded everything he had looking for the finish but the Nicaraguan refused to fold and it went to the cards. Gonzalez fought a great fight, but the knockdowns were too much to overcome and Lopez advanced with the grueling UD, 115-109, 115-111 & 113-111 Isaac Bustos 19-3-2 (5) vs Ratanapol Sor Vorapin 21-1-1 (12) While Bustos had his moments, they were too infrequent and Sorvorapin overwhelmed him with his much more powerful shots, dropping him in the fifth with a vicious hook and battering him with both hands until the referee stepped in during round eight and stopped it partly due to a closed right eye but more so because of the one-sided nature of the contest. Matthew Bell 39-3-1 (23) vs Ivan Calderon 41-1-1 (10) Calderon's nonstop movement with jabs and short left hands dominated the opening round before bell was able to stun him with two hard rights in round two. Ivan got his rhythm back in the 3rd, 4th & 5th, peppering Matthew with combinations that brought some swelling to his right eye. Bell's frustration was evident as he chased after calderon in round six, but he landed two hard uppercuts late in the round that stunned the Puerto Rican. Bell was more effective over the second half of the fight, but he was never able to really get rolling and Calderon's speedy one-twos enabled him to take the UD, 117-113 & 115-113 x2

Straw Semi Finals
(IBO & WBA) Yutaka Niida 22-1-2 (6) vs Ivan Calderon 42-1-1 (10)
Rematch: Calderon UD10 Ivan continued to defend his title in style as he boxed brilliantly behind his southpaw jab and befuddling defense, Niida occasionally landed with hard left hands and took a couple of rounds but the scoring was, frankly, closer than the fight as the Puerto Rican advanced to the finals again with a dominant UD. 118-111, 117-111 & 115-113 (IBF, WBC & WBO) Ricardo Lopez 44-0 (35) vs Ratanapol Sor Vorapin 22-1-1 (13) Rematch: Lopez TKO11 The Thai fighter once again met his rival and decided that pure aggression was the only way to overcome the technical prowess of Lopez so he exploded after him and landed a hard left hand before Lopez countered with a wicked uppercut and two hooks that put Sor Vorapin on his heels, Finito erupted with his prodigious arsenal and clocked Ratanapol with shot after shot until a violent hook exploded off his chin and put Sor Vorapin flat on his back where the referee went through the formality of the ten count and gave Lopez his much desired return foray with Calderon in the finals. They are both on top of their game and we'll see if Calderon can hold off the vengeance of Finito, who most of us thought deserved the decision in the first nerd final.

Straw Finals
Ivan Calderon(IBO & WBA) 43-1-1 (10) vs Ricardo Lopez(IBF, WBO & WBC) 45-0 (36)
The finale once again saw Ivan stymie Lopez prodigious offense as he pecked away with his jabs and left hands while Ricardo found his spots for hard hooks to the body and head. This bout really provided little drama but Finito scored with the harder shots throughout and that enabled him to extract revenge and take the UD. 116-114, 116-113 & 116-112

Jr Flyweight First Round
Fahlan Sakkreerin 26-15-3 (3) vs Hwan-Jin Kim 13-6-1 (3)
Sakkreerin used his jab to swell up both of Kim's eyes during a competitive, but docile, fight as they mainly traded jabs and used movement. Fahlan did rock him with a combo in the ninth round and advanced via UD. 98-92, 97-93 & 96-94 (IBO) Joma Gamboa 32-9-2 (8) vs Katsuo Tokashiki 9-9-2 (3) Tokashiki used his speed to puzzle Gamboa early on but Joma started scoring with hard body shots and hooks to the head by the fourth round. Gamboa dropped Tokashiki with a combo in the ninth and dominated down the stretch to take the UD. 117-110 & 115-112 x2 Bert Batawang 16-3-1 (5) vs German Torres 12-8 (8) The lower seeded Torres was the favorite but Bert made sure the seedings held up with a tremendous display of combination punching that left Torres struggling to see out of two swollen eyes and exhausted as batawang drilled him down the stretch en route to the UD. 99-91, 98-93, 97-93 Andy Tabanas 11-9 (6) vs Vicky Tamuhil 12-8 (1) This was a rough in-fight that Tabanas controlled with his harder shots to the head and body. One judge gave it to Tamuhil 96-95, but sanity prevailed and the other two scored it for Andy, 99-93 & 98-92 Nam- Hoon Cha 14-6 (6) vs Jose Dejesus 11-9 (11) Dejesus staggered Cha in the opening round with a crushing right hand and had him reeling with powerful blows throughout the opening round. Nam-Hoon got his act together and boxed brilliantly for long stretches while Jose relied on single bombs and Cha advanced with the UD. 98-93 x2 & 97-94 Carlos Murillo 45-13-3 (23) vs Joey Olivo 19-21 (4) Murillo started well, connecting with hard right hands to the body and uppercuts to the head. Olivo started to work sharp one-twos by the fourth and he opened a cut under Carlos' left eye with a right hand in round seven. That seemed to spur on Joey and he closed strong, pelting Murillo with clean combos over the final two rounds to take the UD. 96-94 x3 Kompayak Porpramook 26-14-2 (17) vs Pitchit Siriwat 26-11-3 (8) Siriwat landed with sharp jabs and hooks that had swelling around both of Kompayak's eyes after four rounds. A brutal hook opened a cut over Pitchit's right eye in the fifth and later in the round Porpramook dropped him for a six count with a right hand. Kompayak began to take over with power punching until early in the ninth when he walked into a straight left that put him down for a five count, Siriwat pounced on him and fired away with both hands until an uppercut crashed into Porpramook's chin and put him face first into the canvas for the count. Jhon Molina 13-4-3 (3) vs Yul-Woo Lee 16-21-3 (6) Molina built up and early lead with jabs and right hands that left Lee with a swollen right eye. Jhon started to tire in the seventh and Yul-Woo responded with some hard left hands and in the eighth he dropped him with a short hook for a six count. Lee closed strong, but it was too much to make up and Molina took the UD. 96-93 x2 & 95-94

Jr Flyweight First Round
Candido Tellez 29-10-1 (21) vs Francisco Tejedor 18-21-1 (7)
Tellez opened a bad cut over Tejedor's right eye in the opening minute of the fight and he continued to target it with jabs and hooks until the gory cut forced the stoppage in round three. Hilario Zapata 35-4-1 (10) vs Adrian Roman 11-9 (1) Zapata dropped Roman with a sharp combo early in the opening round and that helped create the room for him to do his thing, deftly avoiding Adrian's offense and countering with combos en route to the dominant UD. 100-89 x2 & 99-90 Jesus Martinez 12-8 (5) vs Paul Weir 16-22-2 (3) Weir boxed well early behind his jab, in round five Martinez dropped him with a vicious uppercut and he tagged him with clean hooks and crosses in round seven. That momentum was abruptly stifled when a jab from Weir tore open Martinez' right eye early in round seven and the doctor and ref called it a night. Mauricio Pastrana 32-25-3 (12) vs Monelisi Myekeni 11-8-1 (3) Myekini fought a spoiling fight and while Pastrana struggled to inflict damage his aggression and body work netted him the MD, 98-93, 97-95 & 96-96 Ronald Barrera 24-14-2 (15) vs Daniel Reyes 27-13-2 (16) Barrera struck first when he dropped Reyes with a crushing hook in the opening round, a barrage of blows had Reyes in bad shape towards the end of the stanza and Daniel had swelling on his right eye. Ronald continued to press the pace and connect with power shots over the first two minutes of round two when Olympico landed a thunderous right hand to stem the tide and he landed several more over the final minute of the thrilling round (20-17). They opened the third with a furious trade and a left hook put Barrera down for a five count. Daniel pounded him to the head and body for the remainder of the round and a series of right hands left Ronald with a rapidly swelling left eye. After a close fourth Barrera regained control and he floored Reyes in the eighth and ninth rounds with right hands on the way to the grueling UD. 96-89 & 96-91 x2 Masibulele Makepula 40-17-3 (29) vs Jose Victor Burgos 15-5 (7) This was a fierce fight of infighting, Burgos drew swelling from makepula's right eye in the opening round and Masibulele opened a nasty gash under Burgos' right eye with an uppercut in round two. After several tight rounds Makepula hurt him with a series of right hands in round six and dropped him for a seven count with a cross in the seventh before putting him down for the count with another right hand in round eight. Sarikalek Eakarin 34-7-1 (26) vs Freddy Castillo 26-12-2 (11) They went back in forth with both men scoring heavy shots on the inside that led to distention on both of their faces after six even rounds. Jake Matlala 30-7-3 (15) vs Juan Alfonso Keb Bass 12-8 (6) Baby Jake dominated from the onset, dropping keb Bass twice in round four with hooks and then he finished him in round seven with a short cross.

Jr Flyweight First Round
Omar Nino Romero 12-6-2 (4) vs Kermin Guardia 26-16-2 (11)
In an early back and forth war Guardia nearly finished Nino with a series of right hands in the second before Omar came back in the next three rounds to split open Kermin's lip and swell up his right eye. From there Guardia took over with powerful combinations that had both of romero's eyes badly swollen when he dropped him twice in round nine, the second time for the full count. Carlos Fajardo 14-6 (5) vs Joey Herbst 16-3-1 (4) Herbst was very lethargic over the first half of the fight, letting Fajardo dictate the action and not getting off, suddenly in the sixth Joey began to paste Carlos with double and triple jabs followed by combos that enabled him to dominate the last five rounds and take the UD, 97-93, 97-94 & 96-94 Jose Antonio Aguirre 23-15-2 (12) vs Reinaldo Becerra 13-6-1 (3) Aguirre lived up to his semifinal Straw form in Nerd 1 by dominating Becerra from the start, rocking him several times with right hands in round two and opening a nasty gash over his right eye with a hook late in the round that led to the stoppage in round three. Jose Rafael Sosa 17-22-1 (6) vs Agustin Garcia 10-10 (4) A wicked clash of heads opened a bad gash on Sosa' eyebrow in round two and they battled furiously, with Sosa dominating round four with a series of punishing combos in round four until he walked into a hook late in the round that dropped him for a four count. Unlucky for him, because the fight was stopped early in round five and he lost the TUD, 39-36 x2 & 39-37 Wellington Vicente 28-12-1 (8) vs Lupe Madera 13-7 (4) In a somewhat plodding fight, Madera did enough work on the inside to advance via MD, 97-93, 96-94 & 95-95 Alfonso Lopez 28-9-3 (10) vs Manuel Herrera 15-5 (5) Lopez under performed in the prelims and that continued here as herrera put him down three times on the way to an upset UD that was greater than the seeds or records would indicate, 97-91, 97-92 & 95-92 Javier Varguez 14-5-1 (4) vs Nerys Espinoza 11-7-2 (1) Varguez destroyed the Argentine, flooring him twice in round two and securing the TKo late in the round with a flurry along the ropes. Eric Ortiz 13-7 (8) vs Juanito Rubillar 24-13-3 (7) Ortiz pressed the fight but he struggled to put together power shots against his defensive minded foe, it was enough for him to pull off the SD97-95, 95-96 & 96-95

Jr Flyweight Second Round
Ricardo Lopez 46-0 (36) vs Eric Ortiz 14-7 (8)
Ortiz held his own in the first three rounds before Finito began to conduct plastic surgery on his face, swelling up both eyes partly due to a likely broken nose before he floored him with a cross in the tenth and battered him until the fight was halted late in that round. Koki Kameda 55-5 (33) vs Javier Varguez 15-5-1 (5) Javier pressed forward but he ran into a buzzsaw as Koki punished him with powerful and precise combos that floored him in rounds two and five and left him with severe swelling on his left eye. Just when it looked like a foregone conclusion Varguez stunned him with a right hand and followed up with big shots to the body and head during a huge round six. Kameda started to tire and Varguez rocked him a few more times including twice in the eight with vicious right hands. Koki showed his grit by dominating the final round with big right hands that reaffirmed his UD, 97-91 x2 & 96-92 Giovanni Segura 39-1 (30) vs Manuel Jesus Herrera 16-5 (5) Herrera survived a difficult opening six minutes to establish himself and even stun Segura with a hook in round four. Giovanni pressed forward and late in round seven he put Manuel down for the count with a violent hook to the body in round seven. Yoko Gushiken 20-0 (17) vs Lupe Madera 14-7 (4) Madera put on a valiant, if not successful, show; forging inside through precise and powerful punches to keep things competitive most of the way. By the final round Lupe's face was badly swollen and Gushiken wasn't content for a decision and he ended things with a devastating uppercut late in the tenth. Jorge Arce 64-15-1 (41) vs Agustin Garcia 11-10 (4) Arce blew through Garcia like dust, dropping him twice in the opening round and forcing the stoppage with a fierce onslaught along the ropes later in the stanza. Jung- Koo Chang 38-2 (14) vs Jose Antonio Aguirre 24-15-3 (13) Chang was dominating the affair until Aguirre scored with a thudding hook to the body in the fifth that put Chang down for an eight count and the Mexican rained blows down on him for the remainder of the round. Jung-Koo came back in the sixth and an uppercut opened a gory cut over Aguirre's right eye. Early in round seven Jose was floored by a hook and the South Korean exploded with a never ending swarm of blows that forced the stoppage. Ivan Calderon 43-2-1 (10) vs Joey Herbst 17-3-1 (4) These two pure boxers engaged in a purely tactical fight that saw the american use his right hand to secure a slight edge in the eyes of most observers, but the best Joey could get was a draw, 96-95 Calderon and 95-95 x2 (WBO) Beibis Mendoza 18-2 (13) vs Kermin Guardia 27-16-2 (12) Rematch: Mendoza TKO2 Guardia broke open a timid bout with a right hand that opened a wicked cut over mendoza's left eye late in round two that the doctor looked at and allowed the fight to go on. Beibis stormed out for round three and floored Kermin with a hook in the third and another in the fourth before a series a booming right hands produced the TKO late in round four.

Jr Flyweight Second Round
(IBF) Myung-Woo Yuh 20-0 (8) vs Carlos Tamara 11-9-1 (4)
Yuh was his usual high volume self, pasting Carlos with 3 and 4 punch combos while he bounced in and out of harms way. In round five Myung fired four straight jabs to the body and launched a booming overhand left that dropped Tamara hard for an eight count. The follow up flurry left the Colombian with a swollen left eye. Yuh continued to be utterly dominant, a short hook opened a nasty gash over Carlos' now closed left eye in round eleven but Tamara managed to stay the course and last the distance to hear the UD for the champion, 150-134 x2 & 149-135 Michael Carbajal 18-1-1 (16) vs Jesus Chong 16-5 (8) Carbajal battered the Mexican with thunderous hooks to the body and right hands to the head that had Chong's left eye slammed shut and gushing blood by the ninth round and a vicious series of power shots prompted the referee to end the slaughter. Amazing that Jesus never went down. Hi-Yong Choi 36-5-1 (13) vs Isidro Perez 25-15-1 (10) Choi capped a fast paced opening round by flooring Perez for a five count with a 3 punch combo. Isidro made his presence known, staggering Choi in the second and fifth with hard hooks, but the South Korean was too speedy and he dropped Kid with an uppercut in the sixth and cruised down the stretch to the UD. 97-90 x3 Roman Gonzalez 37-4-3 (27) vs Shingo Yamaguchi 13-7-1 (4) Yamaguchi landed two stinging jabs that ballooned Roman's left eye by the end of the opening round. Chocolito pressed the pace, but Shingo kept popping that eye with jabs and hooks while the lack of vision seemed to affect Gonzalez' accuracy. Roman staggered him in the seventh with a crushing right hand and put together at least 6 beautiful shots in a row to close the round. Despite his eye being shut, Gonzalez continued his rally down the stretch; hurting Yamaguchi in the ninth with an uppercut and in the final round with hook. The valiant rally, however, fell short and Shingo was able to pull the big upset by tight UD, 96-94 & 96-95 x2

Jr Flyweight Second Round
Nelson Dieppa 18-2 (8) vs Chana Porpaoin 34-8-1 (8)
In a highly competitive, if not exhilarating, contest. Dieppa was the one more willing to take chances and that helped him edge the majority of the early rounds. In round seven, Nelson stunned Chana with a hook and several more puffed up Porpaoin's right eye in the most dominant round of the contest. Porpaoin made a late rally, popping Dieppa with swift combos in the last two rounds but it fell just short and nelson advanced with the SD. 96-95, 94-95 & 95-94 Roberto Vasquez 34-4-2 (24) vs Muvhuso Nedzanani 13-7-1 (6) These two engaged in a fast paced inside battle, with Vasquez dominating the action early on with hard right hands to the head and body. Muvhuso countered with precise uppercuts and hooks and that gained him the edge in rounds five through seven. In the eighth Nedzanani was scoring frequently with those uppercuts and pasting Vasquez with jabs from range when Roberto suddenly floored him with a booming right hand with seconds remaining in the round. Vasquez promptly capitalized on the momentum when he dropped the South African again early in round nine with another right hand. Muvhuso survived the follow up assault and had a good final round but it wasn't enough and Vasquez took the UD; despite two very suspect looking cards. 97-92 & 95-94 x2 Humberto Gonzalez 18-2 (15) vs Edgar Cardenas 21-18-2 (6) Gonzalez dominated the proceedings from the outset and he floored Cardenas in the third with a hard hook. Edgar battled back but was just out-classed and the one sided, but competitive, affair ended in the tenth when a thudding hook to the body put Edgar down for the count. Vuyani Nene 27-11-2 (19) vs Edgar Sosa 31-10 (12) This was a very tight contest but Nene hurt Sosa in the first, fourth and seventh rounds with hard right hands and they were the only dominant rounds in the contest and that enabled the South African to take the UD over his lower seeded, but favored, foe. 99-94, 98-94 & 97-95

Jr Flyweight Second Round
Will Grigsby 18-0-2 (1) vs Jake Matlala 31-7-3 (16)
After matlala stunned Grigsby in the opening round with a short right hand and hammered over the final minute with crisp combinations, Will went into a more defensive posture and boxed well off of his back foot while Baby jake scored on the inside when he was able to get there. Matlala did enough to earn the UD, 97-93, 96-94 & 96-95 Rosendo Alvarez 49-13-2 (28) vs Sarikalek Eakarin 35-7-1 (27) After they swapped the first two rounds, Sarikalek floored Rosendo early in the third with a left hook for a five count and Eakarin kept up the pressure and landed heavily until a hook to the body put Alvarez down again for an eight count just before the bell. El Buffalo came back in the fourth with some crisp right hands but Eakarin kept up the body work and broke Rosendo down before flooring him again in the tenth with an uppercut and taking the UD. 97-90, 97-91 & 96-91 Ulises Solis 17-2-1 (13) vs Masibulele Makepula 41-17-3 (30) They traded inside over the fast paced first two rounds with Archie's faster hands taking the rounds but Masibulele was connecting with heavy right hands and uppercuts. They traded viciously on even terms for the first minute of the third with Solis landing blistering combos in tight while Makepula connected with devastating uppercuts, a short hook buckled Ulises' legs and Makepula ripped off four heavy body shots before bringing a murderous uppercut flush on the chin that put Solis flat on his face for the count. Matthew Bell 39-4-1 (23) vs Ronald Barrera 25-14-2 (15) Bell used his skills to dominate the opening round with stiff jabs and right hands. Early in round two Zeke split open the Colombian's lip with an uppercut and dug two hard hooks to the body before Barrera stunned him with a combination. Ronald followed up with three hard right hands before Bell closed the action packed round with a double hook to the head followed by an uppercut that snapped Barrera's head straight back. They slugged it out again in an even third before Bell started scoring with savage right hands in round four that clearly won him the round and left Ronald with a swollen left eye. From that point on bell blistered him with vicious combos that had the referee near stopping it as he teed off on the Colombian along the ropes at the end of round six. The ref let it continue but Bell changed that early in the seventh when he turned out Ronald's lights with a crushing combination.

Jr Flyweight Second Round
Leo Gamez 70-11-2 (34) vs Mauricio Pastrana 33-25-3 (12)
Leo dominated the first three rounds with thunderous body shots and overhand rights. The fourth and fifth saw them both score virtually at will as pastrano countered Gamez' aggression with uppercuts and hooks on the inside. Mauricio got his jab and cross working a bit in the middle rounds but Gamez closed strong and he stunned Pastrana in a dominant closing round with two hard right hands to punctuate his MD, 98-92, 97-93 & 95-95 Melchor Cob Castro 17-3 (4) vs Paul Weir 17-22-2 (4) Rematch: Cob Castro KO1 Weir completely turned things around from their previous encounter in the early going when he scored with speedy jabs and right hands. A sharp right in the third opened a bad cut over Castro's left eye. Cob Castro came on in round five when he stunned the Scot with an uppercut and banded away at his body over the final half minute. Paul fought brilliantly off of the ropes in the sixth round when he clipped Melchor with clean counters while the Mexican slammed hooks to the body. It took its toll on Weir and he slowed down before summoning a big effort in the final round where he dominated with clean combinations and pulled off the upset via UD, 96-93 x2 & 95-94 Luis Estaba 17-3 (8) vs Hilario Zapata 36-4-1 (10) The Panamanian put his defensive wizardry on full display in the first six minutes, slipping shots and countering with combinations; one of which opened a cut over Estaba's left eye at the end of round two. Feeling desperate in this huge early round match up, Estaba stunned Zapata twice in the third with sharp right hands and he put in some nice body work when Hilario went to the ropes. Estaba put forth a relentless attack in round four, rocking Hilario with an uppercut and pummeling him for the majority of the one sided stanza that sent Zapata back to his corner with a rapidly swelling right eye. Zapata came back early in the fifth with dazzling combos but Luis hurt him in the final minute with a crushing right hand and he pelted Hilario with fierce combinations to steal the round. Fearing an early departure, Hilario dug deep and put on a masterclass in rounds six and seven when he peppered Estaba with one jab after another and avoided the Colombians in coming with deft precision. Luis rocked Zapata early in round eight with an overhand right and scored with several punishing blows before Hilario mounted a counter attack consisting of 3 and 4 punch combos while Estaba drilled him with right hands during a thrilling a round (15-16). They traded early in round nine before zapata reopened the gash with an uppercut, Hilario fired off several combinations before the ref and doctor decided that this excellent fight had to come to an unfortunately premature end, Zapata was up 2 on 2 cards and the other was even. (WBA) Saman Sorjaturong 20-1 (19) vs Candido Tellez 30-10-1 (22) After two feeling out rounds, the champion exploded in the third when he floored Tellez with a vicious uppercut, he arose at eight but Saman pounded him from both wings to the head and body throughout the stanza. Tellez took advantage of his arm weary foe in round four and he repeatedly tagged him with right hands that left the Thai fighter with a nasty mouse under his left eye. They went about in close rounds, with the exception of round six when Candido punished him with right hands, Sorjaturong took command in the ninth with a barrage of blows including several vicious uppercuts that snapped back Tellez' head. Candido took the ball back the ball in round eleven with a stream of fluent combinations and after a tight final round most thought that he had done enough to take the title. The judges disagreed and Saman escaped with a SD, 114-112, 113-114 & 114-113
