When you name the thread the way you do and make references to The Show, expect people to assume that your desire is to move in that direction. If you think people that buy The Show (the audience you say you want to gain customers from) would buy something without arcade style play and 3D graphics, though, you're deluded. You will gain no customers without these from that audience.

When you log into OOTP (As long as you have int) it would take you immeditely to the OOTPB lobby.

Inside the lobby you could have one of several choices.
1) Go to single player Main Menu
2) Browse Leagues connected to OOTPB. This would make it easy to see every league and who is currently online for each league.
3) League Bulliten Board to browse league openings.
4) Lobby's for people looking for exhibtion games or series challenges. This can be futher broke down into decades. For Example people looking to play teams from the 50's etc...
5) Open lobby for owners to chat with each other.
6) Leaderboards to see other OOTP owners records in single exhibition games and series challenges.

Other features that this online portal would have could be the following.
1) Built in IM
2) Ability to keep ootp friends in groups for example (League A) (League B)
3) Private Chat rooms for league meetings etc
4) Ability to right click a user and send him a challenge (Single Game or Series)

I think this would make the game fresh and exciting without taking away fromt he great features in OOTPX.

Matt
All well and good and I suppose I would welcome the feature. That being said, you *forgot* to mention the cost-effectiveness of this proposal - which would be extensive. Taking a single-player game and building a multi-player framework is tantamount to a rewrite. I have 21 years experience as a software developer so I know of what I speak.

Would this feature attract a greater audience? Perhaps. Would it be worth the expense? Likely not.

Roadsttr,

Good points I agree. Yes I am sure it would be costly. Not as costly as 3d Graphics for sure. However I think there must be some big cost taken by Markus to take OOTP to the next level. Now if Markus wants to keep OOTP here on this level than thats ALSO VERY OK WITH ME. I am just making suggestions to expand.

I just know 100% that head to head online is very doable... Just call Dave Koch he has had it like I said before for over 8 years.

Once you got that you just need to build a platform similar to Steam, where it can track be used as the IM platform.

I think not to sound Big Brotherish, but it would be cool people at OOTP could see when X number of users are on etc, and see if there is a time of year where numbers drop or a time of night? Maybe when Markus sees 350 guys online at one time, he could shoot every a quick PM to meet him in a chat room for 30 mins. Stuff like this would be so cool.

I'll take MLB Power Pros over The Show any day. Some kind of Power Pros/OOTP hybrid, now that would be the coolest of all.

If you can get past the cartoony look of Power Pros, you'll find the best gameplay in any baseball game on the market today.

Other Gambling Issues

Oh and the other obvious gambling issue is trade exploits.

Say you have a 8 person league where 2 of the players collude to have one of them win.

Basically player 2 trades player 1 a bunch of quality guys, and gets a bunch of average players. In a league with fantasy draft lets say player 1 now has:

2 1st picks
2 2nd picks
...
2 12th picks
1 13th pick

for their 25 active guys, and player 2 has a bunch of lower round picks. You could even do something less obvious than that extreme. People will get pissed off and give up playing over cheating like this.

If you allow AI's to play then the prizes become unpredictable which will annoy some people. Also people will test how to exploit the AI's trade engine and abuse that to make their team better.

If you're running the likely single season mode, this would involve trading away all your prospects that are great for 1 or 2 years from now in exchange for instant power.

This sounds like the 2009 Pittsburgh Pirates. Maybe Bud Selig needs to look at Ownership to see who they are colluding with.... LOL
