The year 1 thing is to be expected.

The year 5 thing could be related to the initial (created when the league was and played four years) 14 and 17 year olds "graduating" to the majors?

Yeah year 1 doesn't bother me as much but year 5 is way too many players and will throw off my foreigner % balance.

My thinking is because the next years class is created at the end of the feeder season I have all the 14 year olds and 17 year olds that were created during the initial league creation plus all the new 14 and 17 year olds created to replenish the first graduating class.

I'm re-running it now with the initial creation ranges from 15-17 and 18-20 instead of 14-17 and 17-20. If that doesnt work i'll try 15-18 and 18-21, which actually might improve the year 1 numbers as well.

That's a great idea. I was actually thinking the exact same thing last night and started playing with it, but then decided I'm going to sim ahead at least 10 years before playing anyhow, so it'll even out by then.

I feel if you set your age created ranges and age min/max to 15-18 and 18-21 before the league is created and then after creation change it back to 14-17 and 17-20 with the age creation ages at 14 and 17, then it should be better for the first year. The reason your first year is always low is you don't have enough 18 and 21 year olds after only 5 months of playing.

RE: foreigner percentages feeder vs. league

I was thinking of setting it up like this instead:
- 36 feeder league teams (enough for about 9 draft rounds). Make the foreigner % very small.
- Let the game generate the remaining players normally (enough for the remaining 6 rounds). Make the foreigner % for my league very high.

I'm hoping this would even out to a league wide foreigner % of around 40% and that most American born players would enter through feeder leagues and most foreign born players would be generated for the draft.

...
One side effect I just discovered with a similar foreigner % setup (low in feeders, high in major league) is that the personnel mix apparently also follows the league foreigner percentage. I went 5% college foreigners and 80% league foreigners (with feeder league and draft setup, I expected this would result in around 25% foreign-born players). After simming ten years, I'm looking back at the Manager history and I can barely find any American-born managers.

Not exactly critical, but something to be aware of.

Since injuries happen in feeder leagues, how does the AI handle if a team loses one of its catchers, for instance? I noticed one team had a catcher at 0% since the backup was out for the year.

Do I need to turn on ghost players for my league?

Feeder teams usually have some extra guys on the team to cover this. Before OOTPX these extra players were hidden and you only saw 25 guys on the roster. Now you'll see 28 - 30 guys on a feeder team roster. This helps cover injuries and such. If a team got really unlucky and had a bunch of catchers go on the DL, then other players who aren't so good at catching would step into that position...poorly of course.
