I went back and forth with Pete but the bottom line is,the Phillies just didn't have many good players after 1984 or so,so to make the team as competitive as possible I went with the old guy.

Fantastic List. I was surprised that Cory Snyder was not on it as he left a big impression on my mind... then I looked at his stats... he really was one dimensional.

Yeah, the list ended up being a little better than I thought it might when I started. |

As a Pirates fan, and keeping in line with the emphasis on starting pitching, I would add the following:
John Tudor Rick Reuschel Pascual Perez They would replace Luis Salazar Ken Oberkfell Zane Smith (I like Tudor's numbers better) Also, while George Hendrick had a decent career, he is despised in Pittsburgh for his lethargic play in his one partial season there ("Joggin George" is his nickname in the Burgh). I would replace him on the list with Lee Lacy. Just my two cents... |

You can protect any player that played on that team from 1980-1990. Rose did play for Cinncy in the mid 1980s (when he broke the hit record). So he can be protected by Cinncy. He also could have been protected by Philidelphia, and Montreal.
