Jr Middleweight Bouts Feb 86

Anthony Stephens 0-0-0-0 vs Ambo Afiba 0-6-0-0

Nice debut by Stephens, he completely outboxes Afiba on his way to a unanimous decision. Scores 39-37, 40-37 and 40-36

Angel Beltre 0-0-0-0 vs Francisco Mendez 1-5-0-0

I feel Beltre got jobbed in this one. Even though he comes into his debut out of shape I felt he won three of the four rounds, while the judges were watching another fight. Scores 38-38 twice and 39-37 for Mendez(What???)

#31 Masashi Kudo 14-1-0-13 vs #28 Sandy Torres 13-0-1-1

The pre-prime slugger Kudo and the pre-prime boxing Torres are both in excellent shape for this 8 rounder. Kudo is heavily favored prior to the bout. Torres comes out quickly in the first and lands some nice combos to take the round. Kudo has a better second round as he gets to Torres with some hooks but still a close round as Torres has his moments. Torres wins the third as he makes Kudo miss and counters nicely. Kudo wobbles Torres late in the round. Not alot to choose from in the fourth, If I had to pick a winner I'd say Torres. Torres and Kudo stand and trade in the fifth just taking turns nailing eachother when a Kudo hook drops Torres for the 10 count. Kudo seemed to be having trouble with the boxing abilities of Torres until he got to him. Torres looked good prior to the kayo punch. Torres tastes defeat for the first time. Torres outlanded Kudo 135-85 at the time of the KO.

#49 Kenny Bristol 18-1-0-2 vs #54 Sammy Fuentes 18-1-2-12

The pre-prime boxing Bristol will have his hands full against the prime slugging Fuentes. Both men are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Fuentes is a 3-1 favorite coming into the bout and this is a step up in competition for both men. Nice paced first round with Fuentes getting the better of it. Bristol started the round good but Fuentes was able to battle back and win it. Bristol wins the second as he is sharper then Fuentes and lands some clean combos. Fuentes wins a close third round as he is able to land some heavy power shots. Great fourth as both men have their moments in the heated exchanges. Bristol is warned for an intentional butt. Edge in the fourth to Fuentes. Bristol moves to the outside in the fifth and has his best round of the fight as he is able to counter Fuentes with crisp clean punches. Bristol doesn't look like he has much left as the fifth ends. Fuentes is having a preety good sixth when late in the round he lands a huge hook that drops Bristol for an 8 count. Bristol rises and is able to make Fuentes miss and survive the round. Bristol looks better in the seventh but Fuentes is still getting the better of it with his clean power shots. Bristol knows he needs a knockout to win and comes out looking for one. Midway thru the round a Fuentes cross drops Bristol for a 6 count, as the bout continues one more Fuentes hook drops Bristol again and this time for a 10 count. Great win for Fuentes. Bristol started good but as his energy dropped so did he.

#2 Tadashi Mihara 22-0-1-21 vs #12 "Irish" Mike Baker 20-0-1-7

In this bout we have the slugger Mihara and the boxer Baker, Both men are in prime and ready shape for this 10 rounder. This is the first time Mihara has fought outside of his home in Japan. Good first round as both men are countering eachother and Mihara's punches are clearly the stronger of the two, edge to Mihara. Baker wins the second as he is clearly the quicker of the two and lands some clean accurate punches from the outside. Baker is warned twice for low blows. Close third round as again both men take turns countering eachother, too close to call. Nice action in the fourth as both men again have their moments but Mihara definately gets the best of it. Baker has a great fifth as he is landing jabs and crosses flush on the jaw of Mihara and right at the end of the round a Baker cross opens a nasty gash above Mihara's right eye. The ringside physician examines it and the bout continues and the ref says it was a headbutt that caused the cut. This could get interesting. The cut must be bothering Mihara because Baker is just ripping away and Mihara is not responding. A baker jab reopens the cut and man is it bleeding badly, ringside doc examines it and were going to the score cards. 49-47 Baker and 48-48 twice a draw. I think Baker got jobbed as it was clearly a punch that opened the cut. These two should definately go at it again. At the time of the stoppage Baker had outlanded Mihara 170-90.

#9 Vincent Pettway 21-0-0-20 vs #11 Buster Drayton 24-1-0-13

The prime slugging Pettway and the prime boxing Drayton are both in great shape for this 10 rounder. The odds are even prior to the bout. This is definately a step up in competition for both men. Pettway wins the first as he is landing bombs and Drayton isn't able to respond. Drayton has a better second round as he lands a huge right hand but Pettway still wins the round as he is landing numerous right hands. Drayton wins the third as he moves outside and counters the charging Pettway very effectively. What a round both men take turns blasting one another, both men land some heavy blows. This one won't last with these types of punches being landed. Edge in the fourth to Drayton, who pulls even on my scorecard. Drayton has it going now as he is potshotting Pettway but Pettway has his moments as he landed some heavy blows early in the round. Not much happening in the sixth until at 1:00 in when a Pettway hook drops Drayton for a 4 count, Drayton rises and is able to stay away until another Pettway hook drops him for a 1 count right at the bell. Huge round for Pettway. Drayton looks tired as he heads back to his corner. Great rebound round for Drayton he lands some heavy shots and Pettway's right eye is now showing swelling. The eighth starts quickly as a wild overhand right form Drayton connects solidly and drops Pettway for an 8 count. He rises but is definately in bad shape, Drayton applies the pressure and a solid one two drops Pettway for another 8 count. There is alot of time left in the round and Drayton isn't gonna let Pettway off the hook. Drayton is pounding Pettway along the ropes who is now defenseless and the ref jumps in to stop the bout. Great fight, great win. Pettway suffers his first pro defeat. Drayton will probably crack the top 10 with this victory.

Middleweight Bouts Feb 86

Quincy Taylor 0-0-0-0 vs Whit Green 0-3-0-0

Impressive debut for Taylor, he started nicely dropping Green twice in the third and a vicious hook in the fourth drops Green for the 10 count.

Rafael Gutierrez 0-0-0-0 vs Dale Gilbert 0-4-0-0

Awesome debut for Gutierrez as he stops Gilbert in the second round. A perfect hokk dropped Gilbert for an 8 count and when he rose Gutierrez pummelled him along the ropes until Referee Raul Caiz Sr stopped the bout.

#35 Michael Watson 16-1-0-14 vs #38 John David Jackson 12-0-0-5

Both of these pre-prime boxers are in excellent shape for this 8 rounder. Watson is a 3-2 favorite coming into the bout. Watson comes out quickly and is looking to end it in the first, he lands some heavy blows and hurts Jackson forcing him to cover up for most of the round. Jackson moves to the outside in the second and has a much better round as he lands some nice combos. Hell of a round in the third, both men stand and trade and land some brutal punches. I'm amazed no one is hurt. Jackson is showing some swelling under the right eye as the round concludes. Edge to Jackson in the third. Watson wins the the fourth as he is continuously able to get Jackson along the ropes and do some nice work. Jackson looks to be slowing up as the fifth gets underway but still may have won the fifth. Not much to choose from as the round is pretty close. Both men look tired in the sixth but Jackson definately wins it as he lands some impressive blows and Watson doesn't do to much of anything. Another slow round in the seventh with the edge again to Jackson. Watson just isn't throwing enough punches. The scoring in this one will be interesting as Watson drops Jackson for a three count as the final seconds tick off the clock in the eighth. Scorecards read 76-75 Watson, 76-76 and 76-75 Jackson a draw. Good fight both fighters looked good in their first step up in the level of opponents. Jackson outlanded Watson 174-153. Jackson landed at an accuracy of 60.8 that is impressive.

#7 Bobby"Boogaloo"Watts 25-0-0-14 vs #16 Dwight Davison 16-0-0-14

The prime boxing Watts and pre-prime Slugging Davison are in excellent shape for this 10 rounder. Watts is a 3-2 favorite coming into the bout. Both men will face a tough challenge in this one. Watts wins the first as he uses the ring and easily outboxes Davison. Davison was having a good second round when a Watts counter right had Davison's legs rubbery. Davison covers up and is able to avoid further damage. Davison realizes he isn't fighting no more tomatoe cans. Davison wins the third as he is the busier of the two and landed some nice punches. Very slow fourth as neither man seems to anxious to mix it up, slight edge to Davison. Watts wins the fifth as again he uses the ring to outbox Davison. Davison looks like he's running on empty as the sixth round begins and Watts takes advantage landing some crisp power shots. Watts even lands a flagrant low blow that brings a warning form Steve Smoger. Watts wins the seventh as Davison just isn't doing enough. Watts receives a nast gash over the right eye from ana accidental headbutt early in the round. Watts wins the eighth as he moves outside and easily outboxes the oncharging Davison. Watts wins another round as he is the busier fighter. Davison is complaining of a shoulder injury in the corner. Davison wins the tenth as Watts is content to stay away. Scorecards read 97-93 twice and 98-92 all for the winner by unanimous decision Bobby"Boogaloo"Watts. Davison suffers his first defeat in trying to step up in the level of competition. Good win for Watts who is sure to be in the initial title chase.

#4 Miguel Angel Arroyo 25-1-0-17 vs #11 Alan Minter 19-0-0-14

Both of these prime boxers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Minter is a 2-1 favorite coming into the bout. Minter travels to Argentina to take on Arroyo. Close opening round as both men do some nice work. Minter has to know he must win these rounds big to earn a decision here. Another close round with no clear cut winner. Minter definately wins the third as he lands some great combos, it was a great action round with Arroyo scoring as well just not enough to take the round. Minter is warned for using his elbows inside. Things are heating up as both men trades ome heavy leather with the edge definately in Minter's favor. Close fifth as Minter started good but was rocked late in the round by an Arroyo hook, Arroyo couldn't follow up on the staggered Minter. Arroyo seems to be carrying his arms lower as the sixth round begins. Minter has a good round that is made better when Referee Parris deducts a point from Arroyo for a low blow that didn't land. What a seventh both men stand and trade and Arroyo definately gets the better of it. Great round. Another action round in the eighth as again both men are just trading furiouly. Edge to Minter. Again both men trade heavy blows in the center of the ring. Minter definately gets the better of it and Arroyo is cut by an accidental headbutt. Give Minter credit as he comes out to fight in the tenth and not hope he has the decision won. Arroyo has a good tenth and in my book pulled out the round. Depending on the scoring in the first two rounds this could be interesting even though I feel Minter won the bout. To the scorecards. 98-94 and 96-94 twice for the winner by unanimous decision Alan Minter. Give the judges credit they scored it fairly. Minter outlanded Arroyo 264-228. Great win for Minter and Arroyo suffers his first defeat since his sixth pro fight in which he was disqualified ending a 20 bout win streak.

#3 Don"Caveman"Lee 29-0-0-29 vs #18 Hajime"Animal"Fuji 14-0-3-3

The prime slugging Lee and the pre-prime boxing Fuji are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Lee is heavily favored and should have an easy time in this one. Lee looking to stay busy before the initial title fights are scheduled. Wow that was quicker then even I thought it would end. Lee comes out drops Fuji with the first hook he lands, he rises at the count of eight and is dropped by a left right combo, this time he's up at three and is dropped one more time with another hook and Kenny Bayless waves it off. Impressive showing Lee does as he should against the overmatched challenger.

Super Middleweight Bouts Feb 86

Lee Fortune 0-0-0-0 vs Donald Durrett 0-4-0-0

Pretty competative fight and Durrett spoils Fortunes chance for a victory in his debut. Fortune has to settle for a draw. Scores 39-37 Durrett and 38-38. Fortune outlanded Durrett 80-72.

Antoine Byrd 0-0-0-0 vs Sandy Bullard 0-6-0-0

Byrd started slowly in this one dropping the first round, then gets it going in the second and easily outboxes Bullard over the next three rounds. Scores 39-37 across the board.

#24 Rick Thornberry 11-3-2-3 vs #27 Steve Little 14-2-1-0

We have the pre-prime slugger Thornberry vs the pre-prime boxer Little. Both men are in shape for this 8 rounder. Little is a 5-1 favorite coming into the bout. Thornberry is venturing outside his native England for the first time. Little wins the first with great use of the jab and tying up Thornberry when he gets close. Close second round as Thornberry is able to get to Little, Little continues to use an impressive jab tonight. Another close round in the third, edge would have to go to Thornberry. Slow round in the fourth as neither man does very much. Thornberry has a good fifth as he lands some big blows on the jaw of Little. Little suffers a cut above the right eyelid.Nice action round in the sixth as both men score frequently but Little definately wins the round. Both men look tired as the round closes. Another great round in the seventh as both men are landing heavy blowsand a wciked Thornberry hook opens the cut above Little's right eye and blood is everywhere. The doc examines the cut and this fight is over. Thornberry with a great win. Little was up on two of the three scorecards at the time of the stoppage. Little was also outlanding Thornberry 178-132.

#17 Iran Barkley 16-2-0-10 vs #23 Graham Murray 14-3-2-2

We have the pre-prime Slugger vs the pre-prime boxer. Both men are in excellent shape for this 8 rounder. Barkley is heavily favored in this one. Pretty even first round as both men land some clean punches. Barkley wins the second as he is able to put some nice punches together. A pretty slow third round with no clear cut winner. Barkley tries to get inside in the fourth and Murray is able to control the pace from the outside. Both men land some big shots, Slight edge to Murray. Murray is pproving tougher then Barkley expected. Barkley wins the fifth as Murray is looking a little tired. Barkley wins the sixth as Murray really looks out of gas. Barkley controls the round with a pretty good jab and straight rights. Barkley outs another round in the bank as he again is able to land some clean shots and Murray doesn't do to much of anything. Slow final round as both men are spent. slight edge if any to Barkley. To the scorecards. 79-74 across the boards for Iran Barkley

#1 Fulgencio Obelmejias 25-0-1-25 vs Joe"JoJo"Harris 17-3-3-2

The prime slugging Obelmejias and the prime boxing Harris are both in great shape for this 10 round bout. Harris looks to pull the upset in this one as Obelmejias is heavily favored. What a great first round, Harris starts strong as he is able to make Obelmejias miss and counter with heavy bombs. Midway thru the round Obelmejias is gets going and starts landing heavy blows himself and late in the round an Obelmejias one two drops Harris for a one count. The pace is alot slower in the second and Obelmejias wins it as he lands some nice combos and Harris seems a little more tentative as he did not throw many punches in the round. Great third as Harris opens up again and the same script as the first. Harris wins early and Obelmejias storms back, edge to Obelmejias. Another round in the bank for Obelmejias as he continues to land some heavy shots. Harris has a better fifth but still cannot win the round. Obelmejias was landing some brutal bodyshots in the fifth. Harris is proving to be pretty tough. Obelmejias comes out strong in the sixth and lands a brutal hook to the ribs and Harris crumbles, he tries to beat the count but it aint gonna happen. Impressive win for Obelmejias as he continues his knockout streak of 26 in a row after fighting a draw in his pro debut.

#2 Lindell Holmes 26-0-0-12 vs #12 James Kinchen 17-1-0-14

The prime slugging Holmes and the pre-prime slugging Kinchen are in excellent shape for this 10 rounder. Holmes is a 4-1 favorite coming into the bout. Not many punches landed in the opening frame but the ones that did land were damaging blows. Both men land some incredible power shots, slight edge to Holmes. What started as a pretty slow round changed 2:20 in as a wicked Holmes cross drops Kinchen on the seat of his pants. He rises at three and is able to stay away from any further damage. Kinchen bounces back nicely in the third as he is able to land some brutal shots to the jaw of Holmes. Holmes has severe swelling over the right eye as the round comes to a close. Holmes has a huge fourth as he is quicker on the trigger and lands some beautiful combonations. Both men fight inside in the fifth and what a round. Again both men trade heavy blows, edge goes to Holmes. Both men continue the in fighting in the sixth and Kinchen's arms seem a little lower and he pays for it when Holmes lands a crushing left right combo that drops Kinchen like a hot rock. Kinchen gamely tries to rise but is unable to beat the count. Nice win for Holmes. Kinchen has nothing to be ashamed of he landed some heavy blows Holmes was just able to withstand it.

Light Heavyweight Bouts Feb 86

Leeonzaer Barber 0-0-0-0 vs Christian Caldwell 0-4-0-0

Nice competative action fight. Good debut for Barber as he wins a unanimous decision by scores of 39-37 across the board. Barber outlanded Caldwell 93-72.

Norman Bates 0-0-0-0 vs Johnny Clark 0-5-0-0

Nice win for Bates in his debut as he practically pitches a shutout. Scores 40-37 twice and 39-38.

Tony Renata 0-0-0-0 vs Samuel Blakey 0-5-0-0

Hell of a four rounder, both men stood and traded shots in all four rounds. Scores 39-38 Renata, 39-38 Blakey and 39-38 for the winner by split decision Tony Renata.Tougher debut then excpected for Renata but a good fight.

#8 Joe Lasisi 16-0-1-11 vs #18 Anthony Witherspoon 19-0-0-14

The pre-prime slugging Lasisi admits he may have under trained for this 10 rounder while prime slugger Anthony witherspoon is in great shape. Odds are even money for this fight.Great first round no feeling out process in this one, both men land some heavy shots, edge to Witherspoon who is the quicker of the two, Second round picks up right were the first ended, both mentrading heavily with Witherspoon getting the better of it. Witherspoon has a huge third round as he is able to drop Lasisi with a beautiful one two combo for a two count. Witherspoon tries to end it and lands some big punches but Lasisi shows heart and survives the round. What a beard Lasisi shows in the fourth as Witherspoon was cranking up on everything and landing flush but never hurt Lasisi. Witherspoon wins another round as he is hitting Lasisi with everything he throws. Lasisi is landing some good punches himself but Witherspoon absorbs them nicely. Lasisi doesn't seem to have much left as the sixth round gets underway. Witherspoon continues to dominate Lasisi. Lasisi lands a huge hook late in the round but with no effect. Another huge round in the seventh for Witherspoon as a thundering combonation drops Lasisi for a five count. A few seconds later a right to the ribs drops Lasisi a second time for a three count. Lasisi has heart but he is getting destroyed. 20 seconds into the eighth a Withersponn cross drops Lasisi for a six count. A few moments later another hook drops Lasisi for another six count, Why Drakulich hasn't stopped this is beyond me. Another Witherspoon uppercut and Lasisi is out before he hits the ground. Impressive showing from Witherspoon. Not sure Lasisi can ever come back from this one. This is the kind of loss that can ruin a fighter. Witherspoon may get into title contention with this victory. Lasisi was outlanded 296-78.

#1 James Scott 24-0-0-20 vs #13 John Conteh 17-0-0-11

There are rumors the prime slugging Scott may have under trained for this bout while the boxing Conteh is in excellent shape for this 10 rounder. This fight is also an even money fight prior to the bout. Conteh wins the first as he boxes beautifully and picks Scott apart. Great second as Conteh starts strongly but as the round moves on Scott starts getting to Conteh with some heavy blows. Close third with the edge going to Conteh. Conteh is landing the quicker cleaner punches while Scott is landing the thudding more damaging blows. Scott wins the fourth as he is able to get inside on Conteh and land some nice punches. Scott wins another as he continues to get inside and paste Conteh with bombs. Conteh is not having much success stopping Scott from getting inside. Conteh wins the sixth as he is able to fight well from the outside. Scott looks frustrated as Coneth is able to make him miss. Conteh with another good round in the seventh as he slightly edges Scott with his crisp counters. Both men are looking fatigued as the eighth round gets underway. Scott takes advantage and lands some very damaging blows. Conteh showing a good chin here tonight. Scott wins the ninth as he is again able to out work Conteh. Whoever wins the tenth may well win the fight. Scott clearly wins the tenth as Conteh was happy to cover up assuming he had the fight won. I feel Scott did enough to earn the decision. To the scorecards. 96-95 Scott, 96-95 Conteh and 95-95 a draw. I can live with that decision. Scott may well have won this fight if he came into it in shape. Scott was the busier of the two throwing 800 punches to Conteh's 575 but Conteh outlanded Scott 221-184.

#6 Jorge Ahumada 19-0-2-13 vs #28 Leslie Stewart 15-1-0-8

The pre-prime boxer Stewart and the prime slugging Ahumada are in excellent shape for this 10 rounder. Ahumada is heavily favored in this one. Ahumada easily wins the first as he is the busier man and Stewart is content to let Ahumada tahe the round. Slow paced second that Ahumada edges. Close third round to score. Stewart has his best round of the fight. Ahumada appears to have hurt his right hand. Stewart clearly wins the fourth as he lands some great combos. Ahumada bounces back in the fifth and beats Stewart from pillar to post. Another close round in the sixth with the edge going to Stewart. Everything punch Ahumada threw was answered by Stewart. What a round secen both men take turns landing some great shots. Stewart is proving alot tougher then the odds makers thought. Another very close round in the eighth could go to either man. Scoring this one is gonna be tough. Stewart edges the ninth as again he answered everything Ahumada landed and then some. In the tenth both men come out looking for the kayo as they know this fight is up for grabs and in my opinion Stewart wins it. To the scorecards. 97-95 and 98-94 twice for the winner by unanimous decision Jorge Ahumada. The scoring sickens me. How they only gave Stewart two rounds is beyond me.

Cruiserweight Fights Feb 86

Nate Miller 0-0-0-0 vs Clayton O'neil 0-5-0-0

Impressive debut for Miller. O'Neil showed a great chin thru the first three rounds as Miller was teeing off but a singular hook in the fourth put O'neil to sleep.

Massimiliano Duran 0-0-0-0 vs Javier Chavez 0-2-0-0

Decent debut for Duran as he boxed nicely using his jab. Duran madse the fight closer on the scorecards with repeated fouls that cost him a point in the fourth. Scores 38-37 across the board. Duran outlanded Chavez 156-78

#36 Robert Daniels 13-1-0-12 vs #29 Willie Shannon 11-1-0-7

Wr have the pre-prime slugger Daniels and the pre-prime boxer Shannon who are both in great shape for this 8 rounder. Shannon started quickley but a minute in was floored by a Daniels hook for a six count. Daniels lands a few more blows but nothing damaging. Shannon rebounds nicely and is having a big round when he lands a solid right that drops Daniels for a seven count. Daniels rises as the bell rings concluding the round. You have got to be kidding me Daniels comes out in the third and lands a vicious uppercut that drops Shannon for a nine count. Shannon tries to stay a way but a sharp hook drops him for another eight count. Shannon rises and is getting beat along the ropes when the ref jumps in and stops it. Great Fight. Shannon suffers his first defeat since his first pro fight. Daniels looked good with the exception of being dropped for the first time in his career.

#10 Rickey Parkey 21-0-1-2 vs #21 Evander Holyfield 13-0-0-13

We have the prime boxing Parkey vs the pre-prime slugging Holyfield. Parkey looks out of shape while Holyfield is in top form. Holyfield is a 7-1 favorite coming into the bout. Wow...A single Holyfield hook drops Parkey and he is counted out 36 seconds into the first. That's incredible. Impressive showing for Holyfield, I expected the victory but thought it would be a little more competative.

#4 Uriah Grant 25-0-0-24 vs #12 Jose Maria Flores 21-3-1-5

Both of the prime fighters are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Grant is a 3-1 favorite coming into the bout. Flores looking to continue his unbeaten streak as his three losses occured in his first four fights. First round was definately a feeling out round. Both men land some nice shots slight edge if any to Grant. Flores wins the second as he dominated the round with his jab. Both fighter trade in the third with Grant definately getting the better of it. Flores takes a beating in the third I wouldn't be surprised if theres some 10-8 scores even without the knockdown. Grant lands some bombs but never hurts Flores. Grant with another big round. Grant lands some quick combos then loads up and lands haymakers he can't miss. Flores' right eye is showing swelling as the round comes to a close. Grant picks up were he left off in the fifth just tattooing Flores and referee Andrade has seen enough and stops the bout. Flores shows alot of heart and a hell of a chin as he was never hurt or wobbled in the bout. Impressive showing for Grant who solidifies his position in the initial title hunt.

#5 James Salerno 20-0-0-15 vs #15 Ralf Rocchigiani 16-0-1-3

The pre-prime slugging Salerno and the prime boxing Rocchigiani are both in great shape for this 10 rounder. Rocchigiani is a 6-2 favorite coming into the bout. Each fighter is the best the other fighter has faced to this point in their careers. Alot going on in the first. Salerno comes out winging shots and Rocchigiani is countering nicely winning the round, midway thru the round a headbutt causes swelling over the left eye of Salerno and right after the headbutt a Salerno hook drops Rocchigiani for an eight count. Salerno continues the pressure and lands some more shots but Rocchigiani survives the round. Close second round as Rocchigiani continues to counter the oncharging Salerno.Slight edge to Rocchigiani. Not alot to choose from in the third as both men are content to wait the other out. Slight edge to Salerno for his agressiveness. Rocchigiani wins the the fourth with his continued counterpunching. Salerno isn't able to get to Rocchigiani in the fourth. Rocchigiani takes the lead in the fifth and lands some heavy shots on the jaw of Salerno who's left eye is really starting to get ugly. Rocchigiani wins another as the swelling is definately hampering Salerno who is eatting jabs and right hands. Salerno continues to come forward but fatigue and his left eye are working against him. Rocchigiani continues to counter Salerno and win the round easily. Salerno comes out looking for the kayo as he is behind on the scorecards and may have just edged the round with his power shots. Salerno wins the ninth as Rocchigiani doesn't throw enough punches. Rocchigiani is on his toes in the tenth and easily outboxes Salerno who is unable to land a punch in the final frame. To the scorecards 95-94 twice 98-92 all for the winner Ralf Rocchigiani. The third judge Albert Bennett who apparently only gave Salerno the first round should be banned from every judging another fight. That score is disgusting. Great win for Rocchigiani, Salerno i'm sure will bounce back he fought well considering he was half blind for the last five rounds.

Heavyweight Bouts Feb 86

Alex Stewart 0-0-0-0 vs Rochell Norris 0-3-0-0

Pretty uninspired showing from Stewart. He did have to contend with a cut from the first round on and luckily he dropped Norris in the final seconds to secure the decision. Scores 38-36 twice and 37-37. Norris outlanded Stewart 77-72.

Al Jones 0-0-0-0 vs John Jordan 0-4-1-0

Al Jones boxed beautifully and easily outpointed the game Jordan. Scores 40-36 twice and 39-37. Jones outlanded Norris 151-38

Oscar Bonavena 0-0-0-0 vs Domingo Salazar 1-3-0-1

Bonavena makes his debut against Salazar a TC Who has a first round KO of Pedro Lovell on his record. That didn't impress Bonavena as he came out ripping Salazar with rights and lefts, Salazar was firing back but not with the zest Bonavena was showing and at 2:57 the ref jumps in and stops the bout. pretty odd stoppage as Salazar was never hurt. Impressive showing for Bonavena despite the quick stoppage.

#20 Alfredo Evangelista 17-1-0-13 vs #22 George Foreman 17-0-0-17

Both of these sluggers are pre-prime. Foreman is in excellant shape and Evangelista took this bout on short notice and may not be as in shape as he should be for this 8 rounder. Foreman is a 7-1 favorite coming into this bout. Foreman dominates the first as He is landing heavy shots and Evangelista is barely throwing a punch. Foreman wins the second as he continues to land bombs. Evangelista fought better in the second but still not effective. Pretty dull third round. Evangelista fights a little better but still don't think he won the round. George wasn't very busy himself in the third. I'd call it even. Both men fight inside in the fourth and you think this would be a mistake for Evangelista but he lands his best punches of the fight. Foreman landed as good as he got, edge to foreman in the fourth. Evangelista goes back inside in the fifth and this time he pays for it. A well placed Foreman hook drops Evangelista for an 8 count he rises only to be hit by a vicious uppercut and he is counted out at 1:52 of the fifth. Nice win for Foreman who continues to move up the rankings.

#2 Frank Bruno 22-0-0-22 vs #14 Ernie Shavers 19-0-0-19

The pre-prime slugging Bruno and the prime slugging Shavers are both in top shape for this 10 rounder. Shavers is a slight favorite at odds of 2-1. I'm expecting fireworks in this one. This is the toughest challenge either man has faced thus far in their careers. Shavers is a beast. He comes out quickly landing haymakers and a wicked overhand right drops Bruno for an 8 count. Bruno is on rubbery legs and one more Shavers uppercut drops Bruno again and this time he is counted out. Impressive win for Shavers. Bruno looked dry and never had a chance to get into the fight, in fact he didn't even land a punch in the round. This victory is sure to propel Shavers in the rankings.

#9 Gerry Cooney 20-0-0-19 vs #22 Fonomanu Sekona 16-1-0-16

Both of these prime sluggers are in excellant shape for this 10 rounder. Cooney is a 3-1 favorite coming into the bout. Both men have power so this should be an interesting match up. Pretty tame first round that Cooney edges as he is the busier of the two. Sekona draws a warning for rabbit punching. What a second as both men wind up and land some huge power shots, edge to Sekona in the second. The bad news for Cooney is he sustained a bad cut over the left eye. The doc examined the cut and allowed the fight to continue. Cooney is gonna need to do something bug as the cut will only worsen as the bout progresses. Cooney is having a big third when a Sekona hook reopens the cut and blood is everywhere the doc examines it and waves off the fight. Tough way to lose your first pro bout. Big win for Sekona. If Sekona hasn't vaulted himself into title contention with this victory both men will do it again in May as Cooney will need some time for that cut to heal.

Fight Of The Month

Fighter Of The Month

Katsumi Komiyama
IBF Straweight Champion

19-1-1-1

Komiyama earns the honors with his impressive third round TKO of Hideyuki Ohashi to capture the first World Title in the World Of Boxing universe. Komiyama speaking thru a translator states "I knew I would win a world title and looks forward to making his first defense'. When asked who he would like to fight he states "It doesn't matter, I love to box and whoever my manager puts me in with is who I will fight'. Komiyama who is still ranked 5th overall in the strawweight division may not have a long reign as Champion but regardless he is the first ever World Champion in the World Of Boxing.

Real Life Tid Bit. Komiyama never held a World Title as he was stopped in 10 rounds by Myung-Woo Yuh. He also failed in four bouts for the Japanese Minimumweight and Light Flyweight titles.

Straweight News

Ricardo Lopez 17-0-0-11 will face Fernando Martinez 13-0-0-8 for the vacant WBA Strawweight Championship in April. Martinez earns the shot with his 10 round unannimous decision victory over Carlos Alberto Rodriguez 21-1-0-8. Lopez comes into the bout with a 10 round unanimous decision victory over Hector Luis Patri 12-2-0-2. In the co feature IBF #3 Carlos Alberto Rodriguez will face off in a 12 round title eliminator against IBF #4 Hideyuki Ohashi 23-2-4-6.The winner will face IBF Champion Katsumi Komiyama in June.

Strawweight bouts Mar 86

Sung-Woo Lee 1-0-0-0 vs Masatake Sato 1-1-0-0

Lee completely gave the first two rounds away before he got going. I felt it was a draw and the judges agree. Scores 39-37 Sato, 39-37 Lee and 38-38. Lee outlanded Soto 79-55

Chiba Tenoria 1-0-0-0 vs Takeo Sato 0-2-0-0

Tenoria looks impressive as he easily outboxes Sato and used some effective counterpunching. Tenoria outlanded Sato 92-61. Scores 40-36 and 39-37 twice.

Nico Thomas 0-0-1-0 vs Ed McCall 0-0-0-0

Thomas looks to earn his first victory as a pro and he did whatever he could to try and lose thru the first three rounds.Including have two point deductions for low blows, but in the fourth Thomas was lighting up McCall which caused referee Joe Cortes to halt the bout at 2:56 of the fourth and dinal round.

#14 Eric Chavez 13-2-3-3 vs #17 Samuth Sithnaruepol 11-5-3-2

We have the pre-prime boxer vs the pre-prime slugger. Both men are in top shape for this 8 rounder. Chavez is a 6-1 favorite coming in. Great opening round both men trade with the edge going to Chavez. Both men mix it up again in the second and again a slight edge to Chavez who is warned for a low blow. Chavez clearly wins the third as he is the quicker of the two and unloads some impressive combos. Sithnaruepol starts the fourth going to the body but Chavez regains control by midround and is again landing some great combos. Chavez wins the fifth as he stays outside and pot shots the fading Sithnaruepol. Sithnaruepol wins the sixth as he moves inside on Chavez and makes him miss and counters landing his best punches of the bout. Close seventh round as both men appear tired. Sithnaruepol edges the round but has swelling above the right eye from a Chavez headbutt. Sithnaruepol comes out looking to kayo Chavez who is on his bicycle and boxes beautiful controlling the final round with a great jab. To the scorecards. 78-74 twice and 77-75 all for the winner by unanimous decision Eric Chavez. Chavez continues to improve and should really step up in the level of competition in his next bout.

#13 Tamsanqa Sogcwe 12-2-4-3 vs #16 Makoto Kana 7-6-2-1

We have two pre-prime boxers in this one. Both men are in excellent shape for this 8 rounder. Sogcwe is a 4-1 favorite coming into the bout. Sogcwe wins the first as he lands some great combos, Kano fires back but not as sharp as Sogcwe. Sogcwe wins the second as he continues to land some great shots and win the inside exchanges. Sogcwe wins the third as he is just the busier of the two and outlands Kana, Kana lands when he is throwing but he needs to throw some punches. Kana finally opens up in the fourth and wins the round with sharp combos. The pace has slowed here in the fifth and Sogcwe slightly edges Kana who is looking spent as the round ends. Really slow sixth as both men do minimal fighting and maximum clinching. Sogcwe wins the seventh as he has more energy and lands some wicked rights and lefts. Kana does not have much left. Sogcwe wins the final round as Kana doesn't land a punch. To the scorecards. 80-72, 79-74 and 79-73 all for the winner by unanimous decision Tamsanqa Sogcwe.Good win for Sogcwe he also needs to step up in competition, Maybe him and Chavez should square off next.

#8 Marcario Santos 12-2-0-4 vs #10 Hector Luis Patri 12-2-0-2

We have the pre prime boxer Patri who looks a little soft around the middle taking on pre-prime slugger Santos who is in great shape for this 10 rounder. Patri is looking to rebound after a 10 round unaimous decision loss to Ricardo Lopez, while Santos looks to continue his winning ways as he stopped Titing Dignos in eight back in January. Patri is a 4-1 favorite prior to the bout. Santos wins an action packed first as both men stood toe to toe and traded some great shots. Looks like Santos is looking to get Patri's respect. Patri fights a more measured round two and controls it thru out with a great jab and nice counters. Santos goes to the body hoping it will have an effect later on. What a great third round, Patri is landing bombs on Santos when he ducks into an uppercut and is deposited on the seat of his pants for an 8 count as he rises Santos comes across the ring and lands some haymakers but is unable to finish Patri. Santos accomplishes a first as this is the first time Patri has been sent to the canvas in his career. Great fourth as again both men just take turns landing some brutal blows, to close a round to call. Another action packed round with the edge going to Santos as his punches are definately the harder ounches being landed. Santos wins the sixth as he pummells Patri who is now showing swelling under the left eye. Patri looks to be out of gas as the round comes to a close. Santos with another huge round in the seventh. Santos scores what appears to be a knockdown but referee Perez Huerta calls it a slip, If Patri wasn't hurt he was hurt by the onslaught that followed. Patri survives the round but is not looking so good. As the eighth round begins Patri knows he needs to turn this around and 30 seconds into the round he lands a hook tat drops Santos like a hot rock. Didnt look like Santos was gonna beat the coun but he rises at 8 Patri pours it on but as the round closes Santos has his legs back under him,but his right eye is now showing swelling. Patri is gonna make the scoring interesting as he is able to drop Santos again, this time for a three count. Santos never appeared hurt but the scores have got to be getting close. To the tenth and final round we go. What a fight 30 seconds into the tenth a Santos uppercut drops Patri, Patri slowly rises at 8 and continues to trade instead of covering up and a Santos combo drops Patri again, Patri shows tremendous heart as he climbs off the canvas and you can see he is exhausted. He gets to his feet as the bell sounds ending the bout. Hell of a fight. To the scorecards. 95-89 and 94-90 twice for the winner by unanimous decision Macario Santos. Great win for Santos who i'm sure will move up om the rankings. Patri may have had a better chance to win had he been in proper shape. This is two losses in a row for Patri and may cost him in the rankings

Jr Flyweight Bouts March 86

Hiroki Ioka 1-0-0-0 vs Ammar Tareef 0-4-0-0

Pretty dull fight but Ioka remains unbeaten as he handles Tareef easily. Scores 39-37 across the board.

Ignacio Lindor Gorriti 0-1-0-0 vs Juan Jose Acevedo 1-3-0-0

Gorriti trying to win his first pro bout after a dissapointing debut in January gets off to a great start in the first then has a point deducted for rabbit punching. Gorriti gets back into the fight and has another point deducted in the last round for low blows. Gorriti is the minature Andrew Golota and just implodes when he should win easily. Scores 39-37 Acevedo 38-38 and 40-37 for Acevedo. Gorriti may soon be moving to the TC lineup.

Katsuo Tokashiki 6-1-1-1 vs Urge Rajabu 0-5-0-0

Tokashiki starts slowly then dominates Rajabu over the last five rounds. Scores 59-55 twice and 58-56. No knockdowns or cuts. Tokashiki outlands Rajabu 247-89.

#23 Melchor Cob Castro 10-0-0-1 vs #26 Javier Varguez 19-2-0-18

Varguez the prime slugger, a 3-1 favorite coming in looks soft around the middle while Castro the pre-prime boxer is in great shape for this 8 rounder. Varguez looks to rebound from his fifth round knockout loss to Vuyani Nene a little over a month ago. Slow first round as both men are feeling eachother out. Castro scores more but the power shots are landed by Varguez. Varguez wins the second with strong shots, he also drawsa a warning for hitting with an open glove. Castro fights from the outside in the third and has a much better round landing crisp counters, Castro is warned for an intentional headbutt. Castro wins the fourth as he is the busier man and outlands Varguez. Castro looks fatigued as the fifth round gets underway and Varguez is able to get inside and has a big fifth as he lands some heavy power shots. Varguez opens the sixth with a three punch combo and this wakes Castro up who then dominates the round from that point on until a perfect Varguez right drops Castro for a nine count. Varguez lands a brutal right that opens a nasty cut above Castro's left eye. Big round for Varguez. Castro has rebounded here in the seventh but is still getting hammered by Varguez midway thru the round the cut above Castro's eye is bleeding again and a mouse is also visable under the right eye. The doc examines the cut and allows the fight to continue. Castro come out looking for the kayo in the final round and tastes the canvas twice himself, once from a brutal uppercut the second time from a right cross. Varguez seems to have rebounded nicely from his last effort against Nene. To the judges 78-71 and 77-72 twice for Javier Varguez. Good win and has his career going in the right direction again.

#9 Jung-Koo Chang 16-0-0-2 vs #8 Roy Thompson 16-0-1-3

Both of these boxers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Chang is a 5-1 favorite coming in. Chang dominates the first round as he lands some great combos. Chang is warned for using his elbows. Chang with another great round in the second as he uses his jab to control Thompson. Chang wins the third again just dominating Thompson. Chang warned again for using an open glove. Fight is pretty onesided as Chang wins another, Thompson doesn't even seem competative. Chang wins the fifth as Thompson doesn't even land a punch. Chang has a huge sixth as he lands almost everything he throws. A headbutt causes a cut high on the forehead of Thomspson Doc examined it twice and allowed the fight to continue. I was hoping he would stop it. Chang continues his shutout as Thompson is just overmatched and doesn't even belong in the ring with Chang. Early in the eight the cut above Thompsons forhead is reopened and the doc halts the fight. Thank god. As it was an accidental headbutt we go to the scorecards. 70-63 twice and 69-64 for guess who?. Jung-Koo Chang. Dominating performance. Chang is gonna be tough to beat. Ready for the punch totals 392-96. Thompson needs a CT.lol

#6 Dodie Boy Penalosa 16-0-0-2 vs #7 Flywell Botha 17-0-2-1

Both of these pre-prime boxers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Penalosa is a 9-1 favorite coming into this bout. First is a feeling out round that Penalosa wins with his jab. Close second round I feel Botha edged. Close third round that could go to either man. Not alot to choose from. Another close round in the fourth if any edge maybe a slight one to Penalosa. Neither man has really turned it up yet. Another pretty even round. These guys need to start fighting. The sixth has it's first clear cut winner since the first round. Penalosa does some nice work and lands some clean combo's. Botha wins the seventh as he seems to have woken up and lands some meaningful blows. Penalosa with a great eighth round as he tatoos Botha who is starting to slow up with rights and lefts. Another close round as both men appear tired and throw minimal punches. Penalosa easily wins the tenth and final round as he stayed away and used a nice jab. To the scorecards. 96-95 and 97-94 twice for the winner by unanimous decision Dodie Boy Penalosa. Good win for Penalosa but both men will need to be more active in the future as this was not a very good fight.

#2 Leo Gamez (20-0-0-16) vs #7 Freddy Castillo (19-0-1-6)

Both of these pre-prime sluggers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Gamez the #2 ranked flyweight in the world is a 4-1 favorite coming into the bout. Great first round as both guys go toe to toe and land some bombs, to close a round to call. Another close round in the second, both men fighting evenly to this point. First clear cut winner of a round yet as Gamez lands some bombs on Castillo who holds upto the punches nicely.Wow what a finish, Gamez starts strong with an upperercut followed by a hook that drops Castillo for an 8 count, he rises and another Gamez hook drops Castillo for a 10 count. Impressive win for Gamez who i'm sure solidifies his position for a title bout.
