I wanted to include the data for all of the retired players as well, for research and authenticity purposes, but that puts me over 20,000 players and that seems to crash the game.
That's an unknown bug (at least to me!) and should be reported to Tech Support.

I've confirmed that this happens in my game; I see exactly what you do. It affects all teams. It looks like it takes the a player in alphabetical order by last name and uses that for all positions. Check the Reds, you'll see Andy Abad.

I don't know that this is a bug with the roster set or the game.

I like the fact that a lot of guys are already hurt. I have had a complaint that there is not a 'Mass Heal All Injured' button.

I don't know if you've noticed, but there are probably two dozen players that are healthy but walking timebombs, with high injury ratings already in place. If you want an example, use the editor and look at Ken Griffey Jr.

Confirmed-Brandon Wood has no minor league stats when he should.

As for his speed ratings, that's something that Erich would need to speak to. When I looked up Wood's stats on the Baseball Cube, I see that he is very efficient stealing bases. He swipes them like Barry Larkin did. The speed rating might be a way to reflect his proficiency in stealing.

Good Postional Chart but it should be for just one year with like Catcher 08/09 for the Mets might be Schnieder then Castro and so on in the Minors.

I was under the impression that the steal rating was for SB profiecency- and that speed dictated the frequency of attempts. So wood maybe would be a 50 or 55 for speed and perhaps an 80 as a stealing rating.....Perhaps that assertion is incorrect- but that has been my experience. Thanks for looking into it in any case. (You guys getting hammered by the snow like we are over here in Bellbrook?)

Bellbrook, eh? We're getting bombed by snow in Huber Heights. Not much to do except chores and OOTP today.

The mechanics of SB, interrelating Steal and Speed...I'd have to defer to Erich on that. I don't understand that yet, and really don't need to until next month. I'll get a grasp on it then, when the theory starts getting taught.

Allow myself to reply to myself, to add clarity.

Howard has a rating line that works out to .302 BA .410 OBP and .661 SLG, with 56 HR and 158 K in 550 AB.

He delivered (in 529 AB) .268 BA, .397 OBP, and .610 SLG, with 47 HR.

The roster set has him hitting too many HR, not striking out enough, and having a BA slightly too high.

As I said in another thread, I simmed the 2007 season twice. Both times, Ryan Howard won the Triple Crown in the NL.

The first time I simmed the 2007 season, he won the triple crown and broke the single-season home run record.

Can you look up his stat line, please?

Aside from that- any aging algorithm that causes several gold glove caliber fielders to become so poor in the field by the time that they are 30-32 they are relegated to the bench or DH duty is suspect.

I would like to add that I don't see this type of behavior at all- or at least outside the norm- using default players- or even 2nd generation players in Erich's set. Just in today's MLB players.

Just try a 5 year sim and look at the carnage to players in the 28-33 year range- and pay special attention to the fielding ratings. I know there is a lot of attrition in baseball- and I understand that a lot of guys WILL flame out- but this extreme- and I think if you look closely you will agree.
I thought some visuals to show my point regarding this might be best. If those best suited to determine if this what they intended don't agree- I'll let it drop.

First, some context: These are just two examples from Erich's set, nothing has been changed except that ratings are shown here on a 1-100 scale to make the problem a little easier to see. There are dozens of others. In fact, it is an exception to find a guy in his late twenties who hasn't suffered a similar fate as these two guys. Andruw Jones and Jimmy Rollins. Both in their late 20's and considered elite fielders at their positions- as they were so rated in 2007. Both are in their late twenties in 2007. I am showing here both players (scouts off) in 2007, 2008, then finally in 2010 (when the AI will no longer play them on a daily basis). These are just their fielding ratings- their hitting attributes have taken quite a hit too, though as I said earlier- that can be edited successfully with the aging modifiers.

I'm on 1/1/08 in a test season before I start a real one and I just looked at both those players and they basically stayed the same at the fielding position.

Well that needs to be looked at. That is a horrible downword trend. I rechecked the settings and nothing seems set strange so it doesnt make sense why this would be happening.

It could just be part of the wonderful unknowns in OOTP.

Yeah, maybe....Or maybe it's just on my end. That's why I wanted a few you guys to try simming and then poke around a little bit. Remeber to view ratings with scouts off- and it helps if you view the ratings on a 1-100 scale.

I really don't think this kind of attrition was intended by Markus....but maybe it's just something screwy at my end. If it isn't, this really needs to be looked before next year's release- becasue it's going to RUIN online leagues that use this as a roster base.

There is definitely something wrong. I just simmed half a season (2007) and Jones dropped form 82 to 65 in CF rating and Rollins dropped from 79 to 73. That is just in half a season.

No wonder when I did test sims before, no one would sign Jones as a FA.

Old players fall apart. The first thing to go is speed and defense. The aging curves chop roaming Gold Glover apart.

Andruw Jones had a UZR of 1 for 2007.

I'd like add in another vote for "Ryan Howard is absurd". Howard, Burrell, and Utley finished 1-2-3 in VORP in 2007. Cole Hamels was the top pitcher in VORP - and posted a 24-2 record.

It's odd - their ratings don't seem that far out of whack but Howard is clearly a problem consistently across leagues. He hit .350/.466/.691 with 57 HR and 186 RBI. He struck out only 117 times.
