I wonder if their motto is "Our coach can beat up your coach".

BTW, if my memory serves, the Australian national team also has the dubious honor of being the victims of Team Finland's biggest victory of all time (19-2 in the 1960 Winter Olympics).

In Asterix at the Olympic Games, the cheaters are discovered after the race after they all put out their... blue tongue. So you're going to see a bumnch of cheaters, are you? I hope there's a guy called Bonds on the team so you can scream at him that he's a cheater.

He's very strong for his size, but he is a pretty small guy for an NHL defenseman.
You don't have to be 6'4" and 220 Lbs to throw big hits in hockey.

Just ask guys who have been hit by Jordan Tootoo or Brian Campbell or Derek Roy or Chris Chelios(just over 6' but only 190 lb) to name a few.

Yeah... the Vladinator was also about the same size as Timonen. The wording "has the size to dish out big hits" just caught my eye, because just about everything Timonen has achieved has been despite his size. But there is more to dealing out big hits than size, that's for sure.

No need to take my babbling so seriously.

It's just that the only personal memory of Kimmo Timonen that I have outside of his performances for the local team between 1994 and 1997 (I think) is standing right behind him in a movie ticket line. He didn't even come up properly to my shoulder. I remember thinking that if he and I somehow magically swapped sizes, he'd be a beast and I'd be only slightly less pathetic as an athlete.

Radivojvic and Hossa save the day

http://www.startribune.com/wild/story/1254103.html
Quote:
According to today's edition of the Slovakia-based Pravda Daily, a man was being attacked by more than 10 neo-Nazi supporters when Radivojevic, New York Rangers forward Marcel Hossa and another friend jumped to his defense. The attackers ran off, but the man was stabbed. Radivojevic and Hossa brought the man to a hospital, where he is recovering after surgery. It is unclear whether Radivojevic knew the victim.

Brad Richards on the block?

http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Hoc...77761-sun.html

Quote:
League sources say Tampa general manager Jay Feaster might be willing to offer centre Brad Richards and his $7.8-million US salary for each of the next four years to the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers and Phoenix Coyotes.

Those teams hold the first three picks in the draft, to be held at Nationwide Arena.
I don't see Chicago touching him. Phoenix? Mebbe. Flyers could perhaps send Pitkanen, Umberger and a 3rd round pick but I really don't see them giving up their 1st round pick.

For the money Richards is on, surely you can get one of the top guys that will be free agents for less with more productivity

I seriously doubt it. AFAIK they're still pretty high on Pitkänen, and they just threw $10+ million of yearly cap money to two players -- I really don't see them raising that figure to about $18 million for 3.

Why the hell would any of those tams want him? As you said they could get better for less, and Chicago already knows the sting of getting high priced players and having them do nothing.

Completely forgot about those two - you are right. Maybe if the Lightning added another player and promised to take Esche

A lesson many teams have learned??? and many more will learn. (Does anyone really learn from their mistakes when it comes to dumb signings)

Dumb signings haven't been cornered on the market by any one team in particular. It appears to be a contageous disease.

Well what do you do to prevent that... you don't give high salaries to players? There is always, always a risk that a player will perform worse than he is expected to. It happens.

San Jose traded G Vesa Toskala and F Mark Bell to the Leafs for a 1st rounder in '07 or '08, an '07 2nd rounder and a '09 4th rounder.

Missed this one - Gigi stays in Anaheim

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=211485&hubname=nhl

Quote:
The star 30-year-old goaltender from Montreal will be around a lot longer than that after agreeing to a US$24-million, four-year contract Thursday.

Giguere will be pulling down $5.5 million in each of the first two years, $6 million in the third year and $7 million in the fourth year. He might have got a bit more somewhere else but he loves life in southern California too much to part company with a team he just helped win the Stanley Cup.

And Nathan Horton signs an extension that makes the Hartnell deal look silly -- 6 years, $24 million.
