She's a former model and actress. Probably best known for her role on NYPD Blue as A.D.A. Valerie Heywood.

Was anyone able to log onto the message board yesterday? I couldn't from the moment when I arrived at work at nine until leaving at five. Good to see it's back up and that we didn't experience another apocalypse...

Nope, I couldn't either and I was worried there would be another apocalypse as well which would have sucked.

Just to let you all know I'll be visiting my sister and her family over the weekend so the HBF/IBL will be inactive for the next three days.

Hi, everyone. I'm back now. Felt weird not visiting here during the past couple of days.

HBF'll be back in action in about three hours from now...

The Eels are a team the Tigers have had a lot of trouble against in recent years and this was their sixth straight win against us. We trailed 16-2 at halftime and it only got worse in the second half. They were too enthusiastic and aggressive for us, really just blew us off the park with some fantastic attacking play and concrete wall defense.
Been four weeks since my last Tigers update. We've gone 2-2 since.

In week thirteen we defeated the Newcastle Knights 33-14, although it was much tougher than the final score indicates as we were trailing 14-12 with about twenty minutes to play and led 21-14 with three minutes to go before finishing with two quick scores.

Week fourteen was a disappointing 16-14 loss to the expansion team Gold Coast Titans. Not disappointing because they're an expansion team, disappointing because we blew a lot of chances to win.

Week fifteen was the low point of our season as we were slaughtered 48-18 by the defending champions, the Brisbane Broncos. They came charging out of the gates and were leading 16-6 after fifteen minutes and 28-6 at halftime. The score was 36-18 with five minutes to go but the Broncos scored two late tries to blow out the final margin.

Yesterday in week sixteen we defeated the Canberra Raiders 22-16 in bitterly-cold Canberra. It was a great win for the Tigers as the Raiders have won most of their home games this year. The Tigers had to defend strongly for long periods, snuffing out a number of Canberra's scoring opportunities in the first half and then late in the game.

So after week sixteen, we're 8-7 and sitting in 5th place. Here's the standings with nine weeks left in the season. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs:

1 Melbourne Storm 13-2
2 Manly Sea Eagles 11-4
3 Parramatta Eels 9-6
4 North Queensland Cowboys 9-6
5 Wests Tigers 8-7
6 Gold Coast Titans 8-7
7 Brisbane Broncos 7-8
8 Cronulla Sharks 7-8

9 New Zealand Warriors 7-8
10 South Sydney Rabbitohs 7-8
11 Newcastle Knights 7-8
12 Canterbury Bulldogs 6-8*
13 Canberra Raiders 6-9
14 St George Illawarra Dragons 5-10
15 Sydney Roosters 5-9*
16 Penrith Panthers 4-11

* Bulldogs and Roosters to play tonight to finish week sixteen

more sad news

My mom went into the hospital earlier this week. They are keeping her comfortible while we await the inevitable. It isn't easy even though she is 93 and has been suffering from dementia the past couple of years. This coming on the heels of my mother in laws death is making these last couple of weeks really tough for me. I really appreciate the support I've gotten from you guys.

I'm so sorry about your mother, Bear. My grandmother is around the same age and while she's in pretty good health, she's slowed down quite a bit in recent years. She lives up north in Queensland, where my parents also live and there are days when I wonder if I'll get a call from them with that type of bad news.

I hope that these coming days are at least peaceful for your mother and your family.

Good win for my Tigers last night. Against the last placed Penrith Panthers, the Tigers stormed back from being behind 14-0 midway through the first half and 20-10 at the break to win 43-26 with a second half explosion.

Stand-in captain Todd Payten scored two tries and 18 year-old speedster Chris Lawrence scored three, including a fantastic length of the field effort early in the second half that was probably the turning point of the game.

The Tigers are now sitting in 4th place but will probably drop back to 5th by the time the weekend's action is over.

Okay probably chopped liver following Mike's post but here goes. Has anyone seen Transformers? I was very impressed with the movies mix of action, comedy, and romance. Nice job overall and my two boys really enjoyed it.

Minor spoilers in this post so skip if you haven't seen Transformers.

I've already seen Transformers twice this week. I loved it, great action, solid comedy, and I like how the relationship between Sam and Mikaela was developed though the final scene when those two are getting abit sexy on top of Bumblebee with the rest of the Autobot crew looking on is really creepy. The only problems I had with the film was lack of screen time for Starscream, though he was made to look really strong in the film so that made me happy, and the complete jobbing of Boncrusher at the hands of Optimus Prime. I'm looking forward to the sequels.

I support this idea to the fullest. I saw the Garcelle pics and that is some top quality stuff.

sad news

After a brief period in hospice, my mom passed away this morning. Fortunately she did not suffer, or linger very long before finding peace and rest, once there was no hope for her. I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. Having you guys in my corner is one of my life's blessings.
