Looks like Fremont is basically a done deal.

I could honestly not think of a worse A's managerial candidate than Baker.

Baker is a terrible manager regardless of what kind of baseball a team plays, but for the A's he's the worst match possible.

Anyone who can effectively manage a bullpen could win the A's about 100-105 games.

It wouldn't hurt to hire a new hitting coach, either, as Gerald Perry is the new Cubs hitting coach.

Sadly, that just makes Bob "Beane's Yes Man" Geren that much more likely.

I don't see that being such a bad thing, actually. Hire Rickey Henderson!

Let's bring in Carney Lansford and Terry Steinbach too. That'd be sweet.

As for the manager situation, I'm still trying to remain optimistic that it won't be Geren. Who knows, maybe this Trey Hillman d00d will get a shot.

Why don't you two want Geren to get the job? Is it just because he's a quiet guy?

Just the fact that he's Billy's best buddy would annoy me. That, and he seems like Art Howe/Ken Macha Part III. If he's picked I'd hope he would prove me wrong, but it just looks like an extremely unsexy pick.

I want somebody who gets along with Beane. I have no problem with what Beane wants done with the team. As was said earlier in this thread, all that's needed is some bullpen management.

Scratch Trey Hillman off the list

I swear, this looks more and more like Beane just waiting for everybody else to not be available so that he can hire Geren and say he tried to do everything he could to find the right guy.

Lame. We're down to Geren, Quirk, and Hershiser. None of those are sexy picks.

Doesn't mean they're bad picks, either.

As small as 32,000 seats too and high-tech.

What would be funny?

If San Francisco decided to build a stadium for the Raiders. Hahaha.

So I don't know why you'd say this:

Just because a guy hasn't managed before doesn't mean he isn't capable.
I like Hershiser or Geren.

Hershiser would be at least be ironic in that he singled handedly killed the A's in 1988. Would be funny if he managed them to a World Series victory 20 years later.

I remember that. I wanted Hershiser tested for steroids and loathed him for awhile until I realized what a classy guy he is.
