Also cool was the fact that Halsey threw 3 scoreless innings in his A's debut.

One of them was a 5 pitch 1-2-3 inning. Cruz couldn't do that to save his life. :happydance

Well, Cruz had been doing it in spring training, but yeah, he's yet to prove himself on a consistent basis.

I want Freddie Bynum to make the team!

Code:
BA SLG OBA G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS E
.373 .667 .439 23 51 17 19 34 6 3 1 9 5 12 6 0 1
I know it's just spring training, and I know it's sample size, but he can play middle infield and all outfield and has excellent speed (Who's our fastest runner now? Kotsay?). And he's out of options and would have to go on waivers if they try to send him back down and he'd likely get claimed. That would suck.

Rumors of the Cubbies wanting Bynum have been floating around, apparently Wellermeyer was on the table but he just got traded.

IMO, you start Keilty on the DL and let Bynum have his roster spot, and then Keilty gets dealt a la Chadwick last year.

Perez may start the season the DL as well as Thomas...so, definitely should be plenty of space for him. Now, the trick is to get him some at bats and if Johnson is DH'ing and Swisher's at first, that would probably mean that Bynum would be the 4th outfielder and I'm guessing he'd get a start or two a week plus pinch running duties...so, he could definitely get a good look in the first couple of weeks.

IMO just trade Keilty.

He's been traded for Shannon Stewart and Ted Lilly. Maybe this time we can trade him for another lights out reliever or something.

Sure is nice to be wondering about the 24th and 25th guys on the roster though, aint it?

Wait, what happened to Perez? He played today, why would he be on the DL?

Apparently he's been hit in the face a couple of times...once by a pitch during winterball and recently by a foul ball off the plate...apparently his eggs got scrambled pretty well. I guess not as bad as originally thought.

3) A starting infielder is hurt for a significant amount of time during spring training
4) We start out something like 15-30
5) We win 30 games in a row to bring us close to playoff contention.
6) We lose a bunch of 2-1 games with the help of our superior pitching and downright awful offense. We fall out of contention.
7) Better luck next year. We have a great team, but they're young and inexperienced, but they will do damage in the future.
8) Rinse and repeat every year.
Oh my god man. Where have you been?

I guess this happened a couple days ago, but it's news to me.

Ruby released

Two years ago Durazo could mash, he deserves another chance somewhere.

It showed up in the Rangers thread. Holy Grail!

ESPN Insider says the Angels are looking at him now. Boy can't get out of the AL West.

Ruby's done. Too bad, too. He was a masher when he was healthy.

Honestly, I'd give him a MLC just to see if he can get it back. Be cheap insurance if/when Thomas goes down.

I'd rather give Payton Thomas' ABs if/when he goes down. I don't think this team needs cheap insurance for anything like that. We're deep.

Healthy Durazo >>>>>>>>>>> Payton

Payton is still going to get plenty of AB's to rest Kotsay and Bradley, plus he'll play LF when Swisher goes to 1B to give Johnson a day off or to let him DH and give Thomas a day off.

I agree, but don't we have enough injury prone DHs? Hell, if Matt Stairs still gets ABs somewhere, Durazo should end up finding a spot.

I just don't think Healthy Durazo exists anymore.

This is probably true. Rumor is that he was looked at and then denied by teh Angels.
